Cgminer seems to have the best options and reliability of most miners.

I try to set the overclocking at the command line (inside cgminer, while it is already running) but it cannot adjust the voltage. Stock voltage is 1250, so I enter 1.250, or 1250, and none of it works. cgminer doesn't even detect that the r9 290 has a voltage at all. Asus tweak only works on the first card. Other cardmaker overclocking software also doesn't work.

Hey Led,

I use a r9 290 for mining as well. Run it with cgminer 3.7.2 You know you can set the overclocking in the cgminer.comf or at the command line

First let me introduce myself. I'm more or less a newbie to cryptocurrency, even though I've been messing with it for ~9 months and diligently mining since the first cold snap of winter in south Texas. I have 2x 7950 and 2x r9 290.
I prefer Linux or OSX86 but I'm willing to use a hacked version of Windows to mine when necessary, as long as Microsoft doesn't make any money off it.

I've noticed that some coins attempt to be CPU coins, but I know in my heart that GPUs left CPUs in the dust a long time ago. They have so much more power, and just need proper code to take advantage of that power.

I am interested in looking into what mining software is available, especially since the 2x r9 290 cards that I got don't seem to be fully supported by cgminer 3.7.2 (the last version of CGminer that still supported scrypt mining).

Unfortunately the ASUS software gpu tweaker only lets me tweak one of my two cards, and I've tried the other overclocking software afterburner, precisionx, oc guru, etc. Really I prefer linux anyway.

I can still tweak the fan on my 2nd card with cgminer, but I can't tweak voltage at all on these Asus r9 cards with cgminer. For my 2nd card, and this is a (somewhat) tragic situation for this hot-running model. On the first card, I can lower temp and raise khash by undervolting with ASUS gpu tweak.

OK, so I'm interested in not only scrypt mining (and QRK or PTS or other non-scrypt and non-SHA-256) software or other GPU miners. Linux or windows is fine, but I prefer linux.

These are the miners I've heard of:
cgminer (doh)
bfgminer
guiminer
reaper

What is available out there nowadays? Is there a new/updated fork of cgminer? Is there software that can utilize my GPUs to mine coins that are supposedly "GPU resistant" Huh
