I made the same mistake of buying an Nvidia card when I first started experimenting with a rig (which was like two weeks ago). I just bought a 6770 and will be installing it soon.

best way for you would be selling your nvidia gfx and buying AMD/ATI instead. I think you will be able to find good candidates among AMD lines in threads already existing.

That is the BEST way. A $50 dollar 5570 would outmine your 460.

If you get the faster card, join a pool.
Or you can just take your card money and buy some coin and wait.

Yep, best advice yet tbh.

If you want BTC and don't have proper mining hardware, you should really just buy them over mining them. You'll get more BTC/dollar that way. Don't think that mining is the only way to get BTC, and don't think that it's free either. With inadequate hashing power, you, or the person responsible for the bill, will be spending more on electricity than you will receive through BTC.

pc can get damage but only is you dont take safe measures:

- remove the side panel of case
- put a couple of fans blowing to the GPU
- put the gpu fan to 80% - 90%
- check the temps once a day

this is what i do and i have 20 pc running for months, 0 problems so far

Thank you very much for you reply.
I will so pool mining.

However, there are a lot of different pools I can join. Is there any difference?
Does it matter which I join?

pool minig is your only option (gtx 460 is slow), dont mine with the cpu is a waste.
You can mine on windows (using guiminer) and a gtx 460 can make 66 mh/s so you can make 1.5BTC per month (at current difficulty).

So, I am totaly new to this, and would like to try out mining of bitcoins, so, I just dont know what method is best for me.

I have a Nvidia GTX 460, and an intel Core Quad procesor.
Nothing special :/

So, should I try mining solo? or pool mining? if pool mining, how to do it? which pool is best?

Also, how much bitcoin can I expect to make?

And, can I do it on windows 7 which is 64bit?
Or do I need linux?

Thanks.
