Asking for tips here is no different from begging.

asking for tips is alot different from begging
begging is asking for something with nothing in return
a tip is getting a small bonus for giving extra time and support to help someone out.

Asking for a tip is asking to be paid for a service, which is not the same as helping someone out. Since this forum is based on contributing to community, asking to be paid for something that is normally free is the same as asking for something with nothing in return.

i see we are going to be arguing about this for a while
a service is providing something that your getting payed for
a tip is giving out info, time and effort and asking that if someone finds it useful that they send a reward your way for providing useful information but with no obligation to actually tip you

helping someone out is offering advice and assistance for nothing in return. which is what happens here but sometimes the person that was helped out may reward the person that helped them out a "tip" this happens mostly in instances where the tip has helped the person to earn money such as where someone has broken some mining gear, come here and asked for help and advice on fixing a problem that could have taken them days to sort and fix. the person with the problem then has a solution to there problem and is back mining much quicker than if they tried to go at it themselves. minimizing downtime and keeping the miner happy. they will then often tip the person for there help and advice

I've received a whopping total of .001 BTC from tips during my time posting on bitcointalk. Took out the address recently. Smiley

I often see signatures which are looking out for bitcoin donations. Many of these folks have sort of commercial interests.

What is the deal with this? Why to beg for money when you can simply earn it?

There are many means to "earn" BTC so why not utilize every mean that you can. The whole tip concept definitely is a community thing in my opinion. Once your holdings grow, if someone helps you and/or your trying to network with people. Tipping someone 0.01 or 0.001 is no big deal. ( the rise of inputs.io makes this simple and efficient) One day you need something from them and there is more of a chance that you will stick out in their mind. Oh and lastly elaborating further on the community aspect of it. Reddit incorporated "reddit gold"...again a community thing. Somebody wrote something that influenced you and left an impression. You follow their feed, tip them some satoshis and hope that drive them to produce more thought provoking content. Cheers
