ETC is an old original immutable ethereum blockchain with smart contracts
ETH is forked Proof-of-Vitalik mutable chain
I'm supporting ETC by solo-mining.

whats your hash ?
managed to get any blocks yet ??

The difference is simple:
In ETC smart-contracts are immutable
In ETH smart-contracts are mutable

The main difference between Ethereum Classic and the current Ethereum implementation is that the classic blockchain did not return any of the funds that have been siphoned off from the DAO.
The question is now, which one shall prevail ?!?!
what do you say guys ??

It will be cheaper to run dAPPS on one chain or another. This is good for Ethereums. As long as there is no worry about 51% attacks.

ETH's consensus is based on proof-of-vitalik. Hence broken consensus when the proof-of-vitalik chain could not reconcile with the proof-of-work chain. ETC is an immutable blockchain. ETH's blockchain is arguably not a blockchain at all.

Yes, it's very sad a serious and respected coin like ETH has decided to apply a corrective fork like this, without any regard to community.

Long live ETC

ETC is the original blockchain. Immutable might be the wrong word, as we don't know what the future holds. But ETH's blockchain is clearly far more mutable, and subject to social engineering.

Focusing on trading and lending bitcoin so I watch the price pretty closely.

I got an email from coinbase saying that they are supporting etherium now, but do they mean ETH or ETC or both? Anyone know? I'm asking because if I buy ETC on another exchange, I don't know if I can transfer to coinbase.
Ignore the rude trolls. To answer your question Coinbase support ETH not ETC. Stay away from ETC as its prone to double spend attack vectors and the original DAO attacker will be dumping his 8.3 million ETC soon.

Thanks for that response, it was very helpful. I think I get it now. It's just a little strange seeing ETC doing so well today on poloniex verses ETH.

Can someone explain the difference between ETH and ETC? I have been focusing only on bitcoin lately and haven't heard about what's going on with etherium.

Well its simple. ETC (Ethereum Classic) came out of Ethereum as a result of the recent hard fork (to restore invested ETH from The DAO). However, due to the fact that there are disagreements of this hard fork from Ethereum, the community decided to go separate ways and make an alternative chain called Ethereum Classic.

It is meant to fulfill Ethereum's original purpose such as being a censorship resistant smart contracts platform. You can read more about it here: https://ethereumclassic.github.io/

Hope this helps.  Smiley

Ouch - Division looks like the beginning of the end for Ethereum. I never liked the bad possibilities this corrective hard fork have opened anyways - this decision really should have been done democratically.

So you watch the price. OK. As I said, nothing is happening in Bitcoin.

People still borrow bitcoin and the price still fluctuates. Even with no news, the price on some exchanges will vary throughout the day. If you know what you're doing, you can make a few dollars here and there.

Boring.

The only difference is you get more bang for the same buck in ETC.

I got a question for you though. What is there in Bitcoin to focus on? It's old news, nothing is happening in Bitcoin.
