My mistake on this forum, was initially when I just joined the forum. I allowed criticism on my thread by forum members way me down, and makes me get scared of posting. Later,as time goes on I overcome this and decided not to listen to everyone comments, but just to take on only good comments and advices from forum members. This really helped me alot, to feel free and enjoy the forum better. Another mistake I did was not giving enough time to the forum at first when I started in other to learn properly, this made me at first not knowing what to post and how to start posting due to no knowledge on the forum discussions on bitcoin. Later, when I realized this,I gave more of my time to forum activities by reading and making my own research. I was able to contribute to discussions in the forum.

Only the brave will reduce the big errors, especially those that may affect their accounts. Therefore, if there is a way to publish anonymously, you may get better answers, but in the current situation, all you will get are traditional errors.

As for me, the biggest mistake was that I believed a scammer without verifying the trust, as I sent him around 200 dollars and then he scammed me, knowing that 200 dollars at the beginning of the year 2017 would have definitely been worth more than 1000 dollars now.

Goodnight, ohh Leo!!! 🦅

I have seen that there are a number of Hero and Legendary members here on this forum. I assume that you all done at least one mistake when you actively participating in the forum. If you would like to share a mistake you have made, it could help newcomers avoid making the same mistake when posting here.
I haven't made any major mistakes other than -not believing in myself when I first got registered. I felt a great inferiority complex and gave myself an orientation of not making my thoughts publicized...that was it!
Then after sometime, It became real to me that anyone' isn't bullied nor ostracized for Thier contributions, no matter how lowly crafted it woulda looked like... that's exactly the time I began cheering up and letting myself loose too.

Do I even have any mistakes I made ever since I joined the bitcointalk forum? Ooh! It seems I can remember something now, and it goes like this; the mistake I will say I regret ever doing after joining this forum was hunting bounty campaign a for month (i.e from January 10th, 2022 to February 11th, 2022), thinking I could earn a penny rather than focusing on creating contents which back then never got any merit and was very discouraging. But later did I understand that merit wasn't meant to be given to any post/thread just like that, but was meant to be awarded to posts/threads that add value to the forum or give solutions to issues on the ground.

And I stop doing bounty campaigns after the day I got paid my reward that wasn't even up to a dollar (i.e in a shitcoin whose value back then was $0.1)

Well that's subjective, but I don't consider it as a mistake. Meriting is about the quality and value right? even though it wasn't written by himself and you're prefer to meriting an active user or it was written by himself.

You're right. After all, what has happen has already happened.

I cannot actually remember any regrettable mistake I made as a newbie. I came here as an absolute newbie and I approached the forum my way. Although I experienced fierce resistance by some reputable forum members but I stood my ground.
Even when I haven't been a clear victim, but with experience I have in the forum I was able to compile some NEWBIE MISTAKES . This could be what you are searching for.

mine is not a mistake but a huge regret. due to family problems in which i was forced to move to my relatives, i was so focused on working on a call center that time that i stopped visiting this forum. well, to be precise that time i badly needed a regular job and i worked as VA at first and then became a call center after that. due to being busy at work and handling personal problems, i find it hard visiting forum. aside from that, i know that campaigns cannot be considered as a regular job. what i regretted the most was i could have tried posting even once daily or twice just to make sure my account is active, but i didn't. maybe at that time i was still affected with what happened in my real life that i couldn't decide properly.

The biggest mistake I ever made in the forum comes from my newbie days, though I can't tell if am still doing some mistakes that am yet to identify or corrected.

First off, two days after my registration to the forum I got lucky to locate my local hangout now local board and after introducing myself, I was still busy responding to myself when no one responded to me.
Secondly, I saw growth here as a difficult thing and getting merit as a more difficult thing but with time I got better understanding about so many things and it's been fun since then.

My biggest mistake was probably caring too much about Bitcoin, and basically volunteering to support narratives becoming of OG bags through thick and thin. And for what exactly? Merits and a pat on the back I suppose. Its easy to get tricked into having a blind loyalty to Bitcoin and its royalty; after all this is the Bitcoin Forum and its why we're all here. But BTC itself is simply a means to an end and far from the most important things in the world, which are health and happiness.

I'm not really remember what the mistake I did, maybe it just a small mistake, so I forget about it.

Speaking of mistakes, was it not a mistake to publish this post on this board? don't we have a Beginners & Help board?
If you think this thread posted in a wrong board, you can report it to the moderator and let's see if you're correct or you're wrong.

The second one was quite petty, meriting a member that plagiarized and got banned the day after.

The biggest mistake I have made in this forum is word spinning. I saw a question asked by a newbie about which I was not too sure of the answer, so I went online to do some research and found exactly what I was looking for, but instead of quoting the original content creator, I wrote the world as if it were mine without even dropping a single link to the source. It was in one of my posts that Lucius called attention to that, but since then I have not activated the V2 notification bot that always notifies me of new mentions. I went through the thread and saw my crime, but lucky enough, the Moderators gave me a second chance, and ever since then, I have learned from my mistake and would rather jump a thread than plagiarize or word-spin.

Nothing coming close to plagiarism (I doubt anyone would want to admit that lol). Two which I could remember. One was bumping my thread on my personal website, which got me suspended for 14 days for link spam. However it took me a while to find out.

The second one was quite petty, meriting a member that plagiarized and got banned the day after.

None.
There might be some here who made some mistakes when they were a newbie, but I can't remember one, or I think I really didn't made one.

I don't think that joining bounties when I was a newbie was a mistake though because I learned still because of being active at that time. I joined bounties, but I'm slowly learning. I didn't make some shitposts like what other users are doing right now. I mean I can't think of anything.

Hmmm. Maybe I can consider my temporarily lost of my account as my mistake, but aside from that I didn't made any. I didn't get ban too in the past.

I haven't had any fatal mistakes since I joined the forum, but if time could be turned back, I wish I'd read the forum rules first before posting. Apart from that, when I first joined the forum I also made more short shitposts without any meaning on the forum. I hope you don't make the mistakes I did. Probably what the rest of us made before, early in our forum activity, we might have been posting low quality. I remember way back, I was even branded as a "spammer" by someone, I wouldn't mentioned his name, he is still active and he says he put me in his ignore list. I was already a Senior Member that time, but I have work myself up.

There could be standards here, but for me, and if you are being judge by others, so be it. Just be yourself and not be affected but strive hard to improved yourself in this community.

Mind you that the only mistake newbies shouldn't make is plagiarizing, and they should know that it is unacceptable even before they join the forum, plagiarism is somewhat frowned upon in every walk of life. But as for other mistakes like low quality posts, newbie query, pyramid quoting, making multiple posts in a row, etc, is not all that bad for a newbie to make, a true newbie would not learn all of that upon registration, it takes time and newbies have to live through that process; it is with time that they become good in most aspects of the forum. Thus even as newbies learn from the mistakes posted by older users in this thread, they should understand that they also can't be experienced users overnight, and some of those mistakes are quite normal for a noob to make.

There shouldn't be a rank required to share their mistakes that the forum members with that rank done in Bitcointalk forum. To be honest, I have done something that you could say that I am wasting mods time and even give more work but I didn't get ranked up to hero member yet that time. I created a thread where it's supposedly to be self-moderated thread and my mistake was I didn't make it into self-moderated where I had to lock the thread and create a new one. The thread is not even useful in my opinion as it is a merit thread for low ranks to submit their application before I sent merits. You should make it more clear as some high rank forum members done something when they are still low rank like me for being a bounty hunter few years ago when I joined this forum.

I made many mistakes on this forum when I came in new because I was not well aware of the rules of the forum. But the most profound one was when I created a thread for an existing topic in another section of the forum. I received so much backlash and criticism because of the above incident. I also learned from that mistake because members advised me that all I needed to do was to update the former thread instead of creating a new one.

During my early days I got a 1 or 2 week ban for low-quality posts for a sig campaign I joined. At the time I barely knew anything about the forum and had not taken the time to learn any of the rules. If there is anything a newbie should do, it's read the RULES and the stickies in each section.
Your honest report has increased my respect for you. Most people at your level never agree that they made mistakes as newbies. Sometimes you keep assuming that some members started as full members because they don't correct with love. Sometimes they feel that newbies should have known everything and they harshly criticize instead of correcting with love and patience. They forget so quickly that they were once corrected and guided.

getting temporarily banned for 14 days for spamming/off-topic/posting extremely low-quality posts. this happened in 2019, checking my inbox on my messages, there are at least more than 30+ posts deleted in the span of 2 weeks which caused me to get temporarily banned for two weeks.

No great mistakes so far in my journey on bitcointalk, only minor ones Grin. I am just taking notes from other members and from threads which were made to serve as guides to newer users.
I am still in the learning phase, no one completely leaves this phase.

If there is something I would like to do more of, it would be to help out moderators in their job by reporting posts which need their attention. I never seem to be able to find enough time to do as much as I would want to and hope to find the perfect balance between the forum and other engagements one has.

My biggest mistake is not being heavier on the ignore button.  I always tried to respond to questions and concerns about my activities, but there came a point where trolls and scammers used this attempt to maintain truth about my activities as a way to try and elevate themselves in the community.  It didn't matter what lies they told or how many alt accounts they had to burn making ridiculous claims, they just wanted attention and to damage my reputation by any means possible.  I see now that engaging with them only 'got them off' and even after some of them have been ignored for years, they still try their best to gain my attention with whatever lies they think the ignorant will believe.  Just hit the ignore button on trolls.  They outnumber contributing members to Bitcoin here 100 to 1 and with the trust network being a popularity contest to inflate trust for potential scams (see ColdKey scam) it is clear the train has gone off the rails and the inmates are running the asylum.  All you have to do is look at the DT1 members that still include Vod in their trust networks after Vod openly tried to extort me on this forum.  Truth is something here that literally doesn't matter anymore.  Don't fight for it.  It's a losing battle that will only negatively reflect against you here until those running this forum get their heads out of their ass.

Let me be honest. The great mistake was joining signature campaign; sometimes I feel like I'm posting low-quality here which doesn't make any sense LOL. It was happening when I was in campaigns that used to require X posts in a signature week. Though I have quit it so many times, I enjoy receiving the BTC; hence, I didn't quit completely.

During my early days I got a 1 or 2 week ban for low quality posts for a sig campaign I joined. At the time I barely knew anything about the forum and had not taken the time to learn any of the rules. If there is anything a newbie should do, it's read the RULES and the stickies in each section.
Thank you a lot for being honest. Shit happens & most people don't want to understand that. We are lucky that you weren't permanently banned. Otherwise, how would we get a quality campaign manager like you?

The most stupid mistake a person would do here is by saving their password to this forum, on their PC or phone.
I believe that such sensitive data should never be kept on devices that remain online whole day and are vulnerable to malicious attacks which could lead to your account being compromised here. I did that mistake once, and thought that my account got compromised. But it didn't, and I immediately changed my password to a new, stronger and longer string to let hackers take years to get into my account.

To trust a few users who had some positive ratings [mostly from DT2 users] to pay once I'm done delivering the work [I'm not implying that none of those who have positive ratings can be trusted, but if you can use escrow services, it'd be better (or at least have some respect for what you'll be doing and go with the 50-50 term)]!
Note: Back then, we had a slightly different trust system.

I'm honestly not sure if you'll get lot of honest answers from users, but of course we did. The most common mistake is posting off-topic, low quality or something like that. This is a mistake of the average user so you will surely get some of their posts which have been deleted by the moderators so far.

If you are interested in knowing the statistics, then have a look at this one: Most Posts/Topics Deleted by Moderators

But rest assured, it is always possible to find a user making mistake whether intentional or not and out of these 33 forum rules I think there is always the potential to be broken.

So you mean to say that only Hero and Legendary rank holders are allowed to reply on your topic. I feel you have come into the conclusion that they were never a Jr Member, Member, Full Member or a Senior Members.

I have nothing against you. The only issue I have with this topic is that everyone makes mistakes before reaching the ultimate rank. There are members who are trying to reach those ranks. This topic should be generic in nature for you to evaluate and decide which mistake mattered the most as per your reasoning.
I get OP’s pov, newbie rank is when most accounts make silly mistakes like poor referencing, plagiarism, bumping old threads, e.t.c the newbies who do this probably do not realize what they are doing is wrong. As one gets more acquainted with the forum, you grow and learn from your mistakes.

if personal conflict in publicly happen, mods will warn and remove the post no?
Lol no. Mods do not get involved in the quarrels between members. You should visit reputation more often, that’s where all the fun is. It’s like bitcointalk’s own reality tv show, full of drama and suspense. I missed some of the famous quarrels that happened before I joined the forum but it’s all still there for everyone to see.

The mistakes on the forum could only be silly mistakes like getting an account banned due to getting plagiarism and later then that i don’t see too mistakes that can be made on this forum.

In general if you are asking for advice to newbies about grave mistake they shouldn’t commit. I would say newbies  shouldn’t make mistake of investing into things because a member posted them here or doing business with just any member on the forum. Also newbies should be wary of the links and telegram they join on this forum.

The only mistake I know newbies might make is to spam the forum. Meaning as a beginner you have to read the rules and regulations before you starts posting, then followed by not taking part in holding Bitcoin during my joining here then bitcoin were very affordable but since I wasn't that exposed to know that I have to hold for sometimes then I missed the whole increase of bitcoin.

I can't really think of anything much at all? I don't think there are much mistakes to be made on an online forum besides the typical plagiarism.

Probably replying to a very old grave-dug thread that's unnecessarily revived by a spammer?

None of us want to talk about our mistakes in public, as you know.
However, I will still admit one of my mistakes, which is a personal conflict with a prominent member of the forum, which took place publicly, so that it was visible to everyone.
Each of us felt that he was right and did not want to give up, but in fact it would be much better if we could resolve our misunderstandings privately, outside of the forum.
We should try to avoid personal conflicts on the forum and in public, so that the forum remains a place for the crypto community to socialize and exchange useful information and opinions.

Creating a topic that is duplicate topic already from the past post due not using the forum search bar. This is what common mistake of user here even high rank when they are starting thread.

Also creating a thread that giving an advice while the OP itself is still a low rank and just listing the most obvious advice that everyone else in the forum knew. I sometimes  do post a topic without putting the source link but I quickly edit it after someone noticing when I publish the thread. This kind of mistakes can ruined the Bitcointalk account even if it’s just an honest mistake.

I have been here for a year plus and probably have made a lot of mistakes along the way, my posts at the beginning weren’t that good. I struggled till it became easier for me to contribute what I have learned. One profound mistake I made and I see others doing the same mistake today is that I was careless with my privacy, with time I have seen reasons why it is important to dissociate your real life from your avatar on bitcointalk.

It’s not very likely that newbies visit meta as much, I think this topic should be in Beginners & Help for reach.

Mistake can be done by anyone, but the depth to the extent at which a mistake is made depends on individuals level of or areas of involvements, but if has always been careful in his dealings, maybe some errors could have been corrected instead of turning to be their mistakes, i dont think i have any in the past but the ones that may be common is on meriting wrong account or number of merits to a user,  wrongly sending a PM to a different user unknowingly, or even posting off topics.
