. I got my bitcoins. Lesson is just as long as my bitcoin client has the current number of blocks, the transactions will be nearly immediately or I will have to wait for the client to download or follow what Exonumia mentioned. A lot of things to learn here, but thanks to the experienced members for being generous with their advice and help.

Just check the readme.txt at that link here it is for quick reference, but please read it at each download in case any changes have been made:

The easiest way in windows is: Start, Run, "explorer %APPDATA%\Bitcoin"
without the quotes.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/bitcoin/files/Bitcoin/blockchain/
That will have the new wallet up and running much faster.

Usually its 5-6 confirmations later. Depending on difficulty it could be a few minutes or a few hours.
The time for a confirmation should always be ~10 minutes irregardless of difficulty. That is the entire reason for variable difficulty.
