It's the service daemon, to run the wallet as a service in the background (ie, with no GUI) and control it via RPC. If you only intend to use the GUI, you don't need this file.

I've always wondered what this application is for? it is bundled with the wallets of most coins but i've never found an explanation on what it does.
For example, zetacoin-qt.exe and zetacoind.exe
Nothing happens when I start it up except for cmd window that opens and closes too fast for me to read what it does.
