It is not limited to Africa, only that their own is obvious and crude. If you want to know the true nature of a man test him with power. Power intoxicate and makes people feel on top of the world. People want to accumulate power because they want to remain relevant all their lives and to be part of decision makers. USA is inhabited by millions of people more than the whole west Africa but they still have one family serving as the president. Bush (41st and 43rd) are they the only one family out of the millions, the Kennedy family, JFK serves from House of Rep, Senate and also president, Obama used 2 terms. If there is a way to make 4 terms they will also remain in power. Clinton, husband was a former president and the wife was also aspirant. One part did their own in a civilized way while the other is crude. Most people loves power it is natural.

It is deeply ingrained in the culture I suppose. Tribal mentality. People gravitate towards "strong men" and allegiance is due to ethnic ties.

Then there's the sense of entitlement. It's no different from how the nobility used to act in say, Europe and East Asia. They see themselves as better than their subordinates and feel entitled to certain perks. Didn't that guy in South Africa even used public money to build his pool at home?

Almost all African countries have had leaders that ruled more than their stipulated term in office, why are Africans so power drunk and driven? I don't understand the psychology. Please help.

Umm... why do you think this is just limited to African leaders? Putin? Hussein? North Korea. Most tyrants will try change the way their political systems work in order to remain in power for as long as possible. China have just this year voted to remove term limits and now their leader can remain in power for life:

power is quite comfortable, if you would have it you would understand

power is distributed asymetrically, someone that has power cannot have others to have power as well the others are supposed to deliver or make that power possible

money is power.

its not different for the bitcoin cult.

the huge bitcoin miner groups are working towards keeping bitcoin as a world currency forever as well

The average IQ level in Africa ranges from 60 to 80, which means that the people are not capable of living under a democratically elected government. Democracy only works if the people are intelligent enough to live under a democratic government. Else, military dictatorships suits them better.

Military dictatorships do never suit anyone whether it is in Africa or in North Korea or even in South East Asia.
What we see in some African countries happens also in the other part of the world but in a small size community. I am talking about gangs. Imagine the big boss letting another guy outside his family ruling, he will be killed and his family business will fall.
So when you make someone chose between living like a billionaire or a poor guy, it is obvious what he will chose. Besides some African leaders feel and act like they are the saviour of the nation from the western occupation so the old generation still believe in them.
Nowadays, people think outside the box drawn by these thieves which should took place decades ago...

You don't understand? Then let me help you. If for example you are granted the ability to a god and given power to do so. Rule over multitudes of people, not have to answer to anyone, you word being law and whatever you whim will happen would you actually give it up? And don't give me the platitude of saying "you will have to protect your people and build them better lives", no they can opt not to do anything but still have power. Why would you give it up?

Its self interest and not the interest of the people that they wish to serve. As a leader you must be willing to serve and not command. Do your best in the time under review and leave when its time up. Clinging on to power forcefully is pure folly.
