Overtime I hardly made use of twitter account and it calls to my noticed that twitter logo was replaced to X instead of the previous logo. Now I was curious to know why such thing happened and why change logo X, does it positively affect the users in any way?
I don't know how many of you are regular user of twitter since I barely relates over there and I noticed is not cool for me to always use since the sold out to Elon Musk that was my ending love of using that social network.

If topic already existed I don't mind locking this thread.
I think probably it's because he wanted to change the concept of Twitter to a more open rewards-based social network where users are even paid for posting, a sort of like Web3 concept or even a Web4 concept. Maybe create a new age of Social networking which is why he did this. There are a lot of users of twitter and I have seen people even liking the concept of X obviously because they are getting paid nicely to have even 40-50k followers if you buy the blue tick.

He changed the name because he wants it to be more of a social media platform, he wants to basically integrate financial payments and other features. If he kept the name, then people would just assume its just for tweeting.

This is similar to what Facebook did with Meta. You got Meta group of companies like Facebook and Instagram. And I am pretty sure Musk wants the same for X. So most likely there will be more products in the near future and they will all be under the X corp.

Musk is a big fan of mystery and improvisation. X - Mr. X, the one who hides behind a mask. "To be disguised is my destiny," sang Mr. X. In other words, we are in for a global and unexpected change that is not even calculated right now. Musk has only hinted. Play only began...

The name change is supposed to mark the platform’s evolution from a social media tool to an “everything app” that includes banking, e-commerce, and expanded social features.

According to author Walter Isaacson, Musk has been on a mission to make fetch X.com happen since 1999. That year he launched the site offering a range of digital finance products, and the site eventually merged with another company becoming PayPal.

Since the initial version of X.com didn’t exactly revolutionize the financial system Musk is hoping to try again, this time using Twitter as the vehicle to do so. But does this evolution make sense for the app formerly known as Twitter?
https://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/twitter-rebrand-x

We seem to share same bandwidth of thought here, because I pondered on this same question you created as a topic and I got a notification as a reasonable conclusion as to why Elon Musk rebranded to just 'X'.
The link I shared above, about sums up why Twitter is redesigned and undergoing rebranding.
I hope this gives a satisfactory response as to the reason for the X.

Probably a dream come true from Elon as he have this idea during his early stage and that could be the main idea behind its new logo. It could be a good marketing strategy as well and for sure it still be a big site in the future. We will get used to it, and we will see how this changed will impact the whole company and the whole social platform. I’m only into twitter/X because of the bounties.

Twitter's ownership has changed, and Elon Musk, the new owner, is entirely within his rights to change the Twitter logo in any way he sees fit. Even the name, which is currently Twitter, is completely up to him.
The X in question may be the word he loves so much, and he wants to use it as the new Twitter logo to replace the one that the previous owner of Twitter has for Twitter. Thus, the Twitter X doesn't change or improve Twitter in any way. It's only a new symbol to understand for Twitter.

Because Elon is an egotistical loser who happened to acquire this domain name many years ago around the era when he owned Paypal. Why has he done it? Because he bought twitter and overpaid by billions, so is now basically happy to use it as a further experiment and he's no interested in whether the hundreds of millions of users out there actually wanted it to happen. Twitter was a quirky name with a great brand reputation, but he has destroyed much of the good that used to come out from it. He's now using this massive social media network for political purposes, doing things such as throttling traffic to competing websites and eradicating large parts of the moderation team, because he scared off so many advertisers that don't want to be associated with him at all.

Trying to decipher why Elon Musk suddenly changed Twitter to X is quite amusing. He doesn't do the expected. No one expected he'd purchase Twitter last year October, but he did and made it private. Musk has been known to be all about innovation and him going for the letter X is not a far fetched idea considering he has several companies and products with that letter (Space X, X.com, and Tesla model X).
For me, I see this as a brilliant idea on his part to try and own a letter. X is a factor, and in maths, you are either solving to find X or you aren't.
While many regard some of his actions as stupid, impulsive and careless, he doesn't care. I think the guy just takes pleasure in delving in areas people haven't thought of. I feel what most competitors and users alike will be concerned about is if rebranding Twitter to X will help change the narrative.

It was meant to be a rebranding so "Twitter" could be incorporated into a multi-purpose app, but it turned to be a failure thus far. Hard to recall a company have such a rough landing with a company rebrand. Even though it's "X", you'll find its still called "Twitter" all over the web application and mobile app. Elon's stated his intentions are to turn Twitter into a payment platform, video publisher, etc. hence the rebranding, but at its current state, Twitter only has the utility of a social platform. They've rolled out a partner program that pays people for the impressions they garner, the intent being for posters to produce enticing original content.  But it's only turned the platform into a space where people bait out interaction by posting low effort content.

So much for "X".

Simple: he likes X. For whatever reason, he’s probably the only one who knows. And to answer you question it does not affect users positively at all. If anything, it’s a huge downgrade. He’s taken the unique identity of twitter and made it into something so unfamiliar and unrecognizable. Comparing to facebook and instagram, twitter was the only one who had its own verb substituting for the word ‘post’. If you say ‘tweet’, everyone knows you’re talking about twitter. He even changed that and went for the generic term ‘post’. Hope he realizes how important these unique traits to the app.
Some says that it's because he has a Space'X company and then they also have Xcorp. I saw this Xcorp when I download the Twitter/X app in the Google Playstore. I guess that seems the closest reason for it? There's also rumors that it's because of the latest XRP trend. Even if it isn't, XRP community is very happy because it makes their coin on hyped again. Then there are also other X'coins which are increasing.

To be honest I like the old Twitter logo and name so I think it affects their users in a negative way. It's supposed to be an upgrade, along with other things that they add on Twitter/X but maybe for us it is a huge downgrade.

The most simple reason for X existing is quite a dumb one, yet one that I believe to be true. Elon bought X.com a long time ago with an idea that this would be his site/app that everyone would use. That meant he was going to start branding things with X. SpaceX, Model X, etc. He’s taking this idea so far now that people are speculating he’s going to buy US Steel (a 5 billion dollar company) just to get their X ticker symbol.

Well, we all know that twitter was sold to Elon Musk which works for NASA. If you could do your research about Elon you can find that he had a company called "SpaceX' so maybe he took the inspiration from it. I think for Elon there's no really particular reason to change it maybe he just like to change it. Since he is a billionaire where he could do whatever he likes without thinking of the sales if it could have a bad impact to Twitter. Actually at first I'm not used to Twitter becoming to "X" but it really gives me a modern and futuristic design which really suit to Elon Musk. But for me minor changes could have a bad impression to users just like you OP.

Elon Musk must have a plan to change Twitter's logo and name. Today I saw a post by Elon Musk where he shared a picture of a smartphone and captioned it as his smartphone. He brought the design of the back of the phone in front of the camera and the same logo that is used on Twitter on the back of the phone is used in Elon Musk's phone. That means maybe he is going to open a mobile company where he will make phones like the famous expensive brand phones which will be called X phone. This is just my personal opinion, I don't know what is the meaning of his sharing this phone picture but initially I think he might be bringing a phone in the market.

There was no reason changing the iconic bird with generic x except the fact that elon is obsessed by brand "X". He has already tried it before (naming things as X), and then there's the SpaceX. Thing is that Elon doesn't seem to understand the point of branding and what it means to have 15 year old brand that was working. I am guessing elon is also losing his mind over the fact that meta owns the name X related to social media.

I wish i could say that naming it X was the most moronic thing in this fiasco but you only have to follow his tweets to see that he has completely lost it. I got tired and stop using it with several accounts.

Too bad, i used to like twitter. It had it ups and downs but now the whole experience is so toxic that i am not touching it. I guess i have to try threads to refill the void when ever it comes to europe.

And i am not going to call it X. I am just calling it twitter that died.

If I am right, Elon owns a corporation known as X corp, just like Mark Zuckerberg owns Meta (Facebook). So I believe that would be the reason why he renamed Twitter to “X”.
I never liked the idea of him changing the name of Twitter, and changing everything about the platform, I felt it was just totally unnecessary, he could have just let it be as it was. I make use of Twitter regularly for getting updates and other things, and the changes were not pleasant to me at all. Some of my friends switched to Thread (by Instagram) as of recently, and Thread seems to be getting popular, lets see what happens in the future.

Elon is very obsessed with the letter X, and based on what I've read, he will really put everything X on his products or everything he wants because it is somewhat unknown to him that he wants to discover and show it to the world and help humanity. Though for sure Elon has a deep meaning to it, mostly he is really wanting X everywhere, which I've also seen as a futuristic approach, like this will be happening in a few decades right now, given how advanced we are.

To me I think he is obsessed with the later x as far back as 1999 when he found a startup called X.com an online financial service company known as PayPal and also announced the birth of his son saying he would be named simply X

Haven't your heard of Intellectual property right? The trade mark and copyright. Elon has been the same person with the same dream from day 1 and the reason for choosing X will remain his trade mark, nobody can explain the reason why he chose that except him and the people around him, everything that surrounds Elon Musk has X and it has the relation with Space X. There could be more reason why chose that to replace Twitter platform to X but in my opinion, the name X has already a big brand that is globally known and its reputation, it will be easier to brand it for to that instead of using the parent name Twitter.

I am not sure, but it could also be attributed to the similar app(Thread) Zuckerberg created some days ago that mimics Twitter, and to protect the code and copyright, they have to change it to X to keep it from other people from abusing the creation.

I saw some topic related to the twitter change, but I most of them more focused on Elon Musk, but then again the X company is actually Elon's personal obsession. Elon has been wanted to make the X company since he was still in PayPal, he wanted to change PayPal to X company but the boards reject that. He finally made SpaceX, and now when he has twitter as his very own company no board nothing, he could do what he has been wanted to do. Finally established X Company.

Some people really bothered by this, but for me I really don't care, the platform is still offering the very same service nothing is changed, just some renaming, Retweet >> Repost. What's bothering me is acually the blue check mark submission, I use to rely on twitter to contact a customer support, and there are a lot of scammers pretend as a customer support, I used to just check whether it has checkmark or not, now I need to double check it.

Facebook changed its name to Meta.
Google was also formerly known as BackRub
Apple was formerly known as Apple computers
The famous Pepsi-Cola was formerly known as Brad’s Drink
eBay was formerly known as  AuctionWeb
see more here
Changing company names, changing company logos are parts of their company adaptation and growth which are normal.

I believe many people don't know that Apple did changed their company logo many times and they will shock when they see past logos of Apple. Because past logos of Apple were not simple and impressive like the current logo we see nowadays.

The Apple logo: History, meaning, design influences, and evolution

Two of their past logos. Unbelievable!

It is normal for companies to change their names, it happens almost every time and according to the vision of the owner of the company new or old, either it becomes bigger or they added more services and wish for customers to know that they are not limited or what they used to be. Other reasons maybe, for easier pronunciation, or better representation.

Face the truth, you never really liked and used X while it was called twitter. If you did, you will not care if Elon Musk is the new owner or not. Your personally feeling about him will not affect the usage of the app.

This shouldn't be a surprise, one should have expected it, and two reasons could be linked to the development.

1. Elon Musk who owns X (formerly Twitter) has been known to identify with "X" as a symbol. The two images of SpaceX and his X Holdings Corp should speak a volume on this.
Elon Musk and the weird history of Brand X

There is a weird history of Elon Musk's obsession on X and we must know he bought the domain x.com from Paypal. That domain was owned by Paypal that is a company with Elon Musk as their CEO years ago.

How much did Elon Musk pay for Paypal to buy that domain back is unknown but it won't be cheap.

AFAIK, Elon Musk owns the domain X.com since the year 2000. Maybe he rebranded Twitter in order to finally use that domain name. Grin
Maybe he is a fan of "The X-files" TV series of the Triple X(I remember that there was a wrestler with that nickname). Grin
The new X social platform will become a major competitor of the social platforms owned by Meta(FB, Insta, Threads) and it will be more censorship free and maybe more oriented towards the right wing conservative people. This is means that it will gather users from the former right wing social media websites like Parler.

It's like it is on his mind at all times. Look at the branding of the companies that he's got like SpaceX. So, with the rebranding of Twitter to X, he has talked about the super app before.
And this could have something to do with this rebranding and it is very timely when he's got to get the attention of the world by having a beef against Mark Zuckerberg. I think it's not just a beef but publicity that he needs for X.

Yes, the X couldn't be a surprise for those who follow Musk. Even the model X is one of Tesla's flagships. But I personally don't like it too much, and maybe it was just a coincidence, because only the change in brand is not a problem (maybe because of the prior purchase of the whole platform was the problem) but I haven't used my twitter account since the change. BTW, how long remains it active if you don't log in in the meantime?

And i actually like the formal twitter logo it was different and unique i don't really fancy this new logo which is x and i feel elon is trying to use this name for all is assets starting from tesla and space x and i think elon is even more obsessed with the space project i think that is were the x is coming from, and some times i have problem identifying twitter since i have to start looking for x and since we the user does not have a say on how he runs is business if not for that am very sure a lot of users are not that comfortable with the way elon change the name and the logo and very soon tesla to might have a change of name over time and since elon has interest in crypto he might invest in a project and also call it x.

This topic will be suitable in politics and society or off-topic boards. It has no relationship to individual, organizational, national, or international economics. Discussing the economic effect of the change of the Twitter logo would have been ideal. However, Elon Musk is a lover of the alphabet X and he has always used it to name most of his firms such SpaceX, xAI and X Corp.,

Well I read he just really likes something to do with that letter X. But I do not know why he likes it that much.

But he does have a child named Xavier so maybe that is a reason.  And he already has company with the similar name, SpaceX.
