safest wallet will be hardware wallet such as ledger nano or trazor etc.  But I personally don't find them user friendly enough.  So I prefer desktop wallet such as Exodus

MyEtherWallet[1] itself is safe to use. But it depends on how safe your device is, if you have malware on your device that could possibly steal your keys, then you're f**ked anyway, regardless of what wallet service you use. That's why it's always suggested to purchase a hardware wallet like Trezor[2] and Ledger nano S[3]; it's miles and miles safer.

It is safe to use and one of the most easiest options out there when it comes to holding ethereum and bunch of ERC20 tokens on ethereum blockchain. Here you take full responsibility for your coins and you must keep your computer secure and safe to use. Don't store your private keys/mnemonic in plain text, yes people often do this and it's not best in practice.... Try to keep your coputer clean from viruses, you may want to use some linux debian or redhat based as there are not that many hackers that write special hacks for those Operating System distributions, this doesn't mean that you are safe here by default but will have higher chance of less viruses/hacks that could potentially be there to steal your coins.

As other stated here hardware wallets are one of the safest things out there when it comes for security, since your private keys don't leave your device. They are easiest option out there for ordinary people and for tech ones. But they are not necessary tool in order to keep your coins private.

I see that many newbies give advice to other newbies ... Myetherwallet is a web wallet so it does not provide security at the highest level, and there are also phishing sites that at the time of neglect can steal the private key. Try https://coinomi.com/
Coinomi is not open source + it doesn't have support for many tokens that are there on ethereum, other thing is that I trust them and use their wallet since it is convenient for storing multiple alts but not tokens. Since many people use android/IOS devices I wouldn't agree that they are safest place either for keeping your coins. Safest is cold storage when you are sure that you just want to put some coins away/hold/not use them.

Good list. These are three of the most used wallets in the cryptocurrency market. However, the arguable number one is MyEtherWallet. I think since you asked about its safety, I can say that it is. The site and wallet offers a lot of code encryption that could help protect your holdings. However, despite that security feature, it is one of the wallets that are very easy and not confusing to use. It can also hold many different types of coins and tokens, which is a good because you won't have to have so many different addresses for different coins. The only thing you have to remember here is to keep your wallet address safe and not give it out blatantly to anyone.

I think (for me) the best wallet and the safer wallet is the coins.ph and myetherwallet that they need a private key to access your wallet and also coins.ph can use for buy a load and pay your bill by using a cellphone or any gadget that can access to the internet..

Myetherwallet is awesome. Its a single place to hold all your ERC20 tokens and Ether. But keep your pvt key with you only. If your pvt key stolen all your fund will be gone.

For long time staying and holding please go for ledger wallet. For low levels of funds management software wallets are just fine..

I have just ordered a Ledger Nano S. it seems very easy to use, and its much safer than hot wallets. I was going to use paper wallets but its not nearly as user friendly

Good luck

I can say yes, i had using MyEtherWallet as Altcoin wallet for a year and nothing got any problem. But you need to save your private key in safe place, protect your computer / usb with antivirus.

I have heard good things about MyEtherWallet - but I'd stick to a hardware wallet (Trezor/Ledger Nano S).
