It's a mammoth task.
They only just started.
First impressions are it's 3 guys sat at a computer trying to compete with Youtube.
It NEEDS to have file storage baked in to be successful in my opinion. It doesn't.
They will probably need to couple with one of the file storage projects (Siacoin, Storjcoin), which themselves are mammoth undertakings, also still early in development. But there's no suggestion that they will be doing that.
People are storing less on local storage and more on the cloud and so LBRY is actually a move backwards without that.
Decentralized marketplaces have shown very slow and even stagnant adoption so far (see OpenBazaar)
There is very little information, roadmap, or dialogue.
Read https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/50tyub/were_the_nerds_behind_lbry_a_decentralized/ for the whole host of problems presented to them regarding lbry:// addresses
Their responses seem to indicate they are making it up as they go along and don't have their sh.it together...
Total supply is 462,084,096 LBC so they are not as cheap as they look.
Once again, there is little concrete information available and all avenues seem to lead to their social media.
Red flags everywhere. Wish they good luck but Maidsafe will probably work before this does, and that's saying something...
Yes, the STORJ needs to be sorted.
LBRY needs to happen. But it only has to be a success in indexing and curating seeds, those seeds refer to cloud hosted data (another project area).
Pretty good comments for their time. Fun to go back and see what was being said earlier.
The funny thing has been how much YouTube has done to discredit itself over the past years and how much progress has been made on the application meanwhile.
Also, aside from the LBRY Credit, how valuable this project can be to help protect free speech given that the entire internet is getting censored left, right and center.
