A country can be recognised as a powerful country due to their technology and their functions of things then created that support other countries like now the US is workpower so they are respectful because they have technology is they can use to fight any country that come against them and also they have different method of generating found in their country without borrowing from another country when they have their monetary challenge so all these are the things that people use to respect their country

^^^ All these things and the ability to use them are gifts from God, for the people of those countries. They are not supposed to be used to make a country powerful. Rather, they are to be used to help the poor. But there are always warmongers that twist good things into things of war.

There are certain underlying factors that 8distinguishes the strongest nations from others Viz;
1. Power: Every strong nation have been able to solve the electricity problem. Power is the base for which industrialization, education, agriculture, SMEs etc thrives and in return the government gain from the bills and  this drive the
2. Economic power: powerful countries regulate and have policies that maintains the value of their currencies
3. Exportation and importation: powerful countries leverage on their strength and take advantage of the vulnerability of the lesser countries who have not worked on number 1 above
3. Natural resources: wise use on local natural resources is important this includes the exploration of the underlying oceans the world is 70 percent water there are deep riches there
4. Arms and ammunitions is another area too

The question now is what makes these countries more powerful than others?
The term independence is one that comes with a lot of obligations for a people as having an ability of sole existence, produce more of what is needed for there survival and sovereignty or control over the happenings within it's nation state. This is where most nations have failed especially developing nations because, they've been unable to carter for its masses.
It isn't out of place to say one nation can't exist comfortably without the other due to the distribution of resources both human and natural  but, having the tendency to depend more than normal on other nations for what you consume doesn't really make you dependent does it?

The dominance of a nation with respect to others relies mainly in there;
1. Economic power.
How stable is the economy, if they produce more than they import and don't depend more on importation.
2. There military power
This defines how secure is the state of the nation and what weapon they've got in there arsenal to defend the state in times of invasion. Needing foreign aids is you as well being subject to terms and not being in control.

Some nations would always be ahead or dependent on others, not because they far existed or gained independence before others but, there ability to harness there human and natural resources for the greater good of there nation state.

What makes country more influential and powerful to others is the policies in the country, the type of leaders they have, the quality of their currency and more importantly, the Agencies they have. For example the security, the Health and so on and so forth. Like in Africa, Nigeria is influential because of its resources and military

I think his military strength and education are extraordinary. a country that lacks education will greatly affect the country. and a country that does not have military power, must still be less powerful than other countries.

education and military strength, can be a strong foundation for a country if managed properly.

Some of these countries have a lot of influence more that others. Anything or policy they propose or support gets accepted by many other countries across the world.
The question now is what makes these countries more powerful than others?
I will say that what makes some countries to be more valuable and the important than other countries in this because of they have more wall equipment they also have companies investment and that does not like money and they also have a large technology that other countries that come and cross them or with him around them does not have that is why some countries are bigger than other countries and some countries also respect others because of their development conditions

A country's state of economy affairs is what gives it a priority over others and this start with the measure of the abundance of its natural resources, development and research advancements that has birth into alot of discoveries other countries are benefitting from, if you're not producing anything and having no results to show forth on recent developments then such country might be looked down on and have to be dependent on other advancing countries to dictate for them, this is another way of acquiring power by what solution to give to the world to mark your unique presence.

^^^ People were civilized right from the Beginning. Adam and Eve were civilized, and their first son, Cain, showed that he was, by murdering his brother. Loads of Adam's and Eve's children and grand-children were civilized in a good way. It's just that there weren't very many of them at the start.

We don't know how populated the Earth was before the Great Flood of Noah's day. Some estimates are into the billions. They were civilized in the fact that they worked together, but their civilization had loads of murder and contract breaking in it. And, above all, their civilization turned away from God and His laws for them.

After the Flood, probably the first serious civilization was set up by Nimrod at the tower of Babel. Following that, or around the same time, the Sumerians became a great civilization. The point is, these civilizations failed for the same reason that countries fail today. Ultimately they don't follow God's laws and worship Him.

First of all I will say civilization, when did they started getting Civilization, then can talk about stranded millitry strength as well too.
Been a powerful nation is all about having a good economy,a good government and also a good security system, having all this can make you to become a powerful nation or country.

For example let take the UNITED STATE OF AMERICAN now we all know they are the world powerful nation now, reason been that there economy is stable, they have a good leadership, good security system and also has a well equip and we'll trane millitry system, and this are all the quality that make them powerful then many countries today.
And again been educated also is also a strength of a powerful nation and also the intelligence of the government and the citizens too make a powerful nation.

That would be a combination of Population, GDP and military.
The possession of nuclear weapons unfortunately is also bonus which can deter other countries to act against autocracies. North Korea is a good example, it is not a significantly powerful nation, does not have a thriving economy or the biggest army, but only their nuclear program is enough to keep in line their adversaries.

Also, influence of a country over others is a factor: imperialism, but I do not know what the dependence of this one on the other factors is, neither is it is a mandatory characteristic of powerful countries or not.

There are many factors that contribute to a country's level of power, including economics, demographics, military, environmental and resource power, political power, and many others, but the military power of a nation is the most crucial. Many nations are weak because they lack adequate armed forces and other equipment to defend their territory or to win wars, as in the case of Russia and Ukraine, where Russia used what they had to defeat Ukraine. Therefore, in my opinion, a country's military might is what really sets it apart from rival nations.

What makes a country to be powerful than another country is the ability of balancing they are resources without any contradiction and the secondary having a wall equipment that when problem comes from another country they will be able to defend their self without seeking for help of any other so this is the thing is that will come stay it that makes a country to be more relevant and another country
literacy and rule of law make the country more powerful - USA is powerful and Canada and France and China
all these countries are developed countries. PEople would want to run to those country for better standard of living
you're wrong, rule of law and and standard of living has nothing to do with , what makes a country powerful.
The only thing you said and I agree, is literacy. Is one of the things that make a country a powerful one. Because education brings innovation and invention of weapons of mass destruction and other dangerous arms. Through scientific research, but the most important thing that makes a country powerful than others is his military power and economic power. that's the only thing that makes a country powerful.

There are so many things that can make a country more power and one of the things is less curruption. Curruption is one of the things that do make a country falls and when it has no control, things will get bad and there will be more calamity for the citizens to make the right choice. Bad government also contribute to how successful a country could be mostly when they are not organized.

GDP and military strength are the only two metrics that matter.

Military strength essentially being how many nuclear weapons you have. Normally the world wouldn't take a country like Russia seriously because their economy was failing for years under Putin and their military was weak -- only such problem being they had more nukes than any other country in the world so we're forced to look at Russia as if they have power.

Their power is overestimated because they aren't maintaining most of their equipment and that includes nukes. A great example of Russian maintenance is the state in which their carrier is. They had at least 2 big fires on it and it was supposed to get refitted but is inoperable for years now and even Russian sources say it's not going to be fit for service at least until 2024. In reality that's probably never and it's eventually going to be scrapped, because who's going to operate a ship that uses oil fired steam boilers in 2024, when the rest of the world has nuclear warships.

Countries can be powerful in many ways. They can have large economies, armies, technology they're trading. China is powerful because it has enormous industry and companies from around the world use their facilities to produce stuff. On the other hand, North Korea has nukes and nobody respects it, so nuclear arsenal is not the only factor that counts. Russia is not powerful because it has nukes but because it's the largest country in the world and 9th largest in population but with the number Russians dying or fleeing from the country it may soon fall from that position.

Military strength, weapons, GDP and technology. In previous years before civilisation military might was the only criteria for supremacy but as innovation and technology came into play the more powerful a countries military might is as regards their physical strength and weapon might decided who tops the chart of who get more stronger recognition. Now technological advancement has made it even more difficult to rank a military base without good technology.

Militaries make nations stronger than others because countries make colors to cover the rights of the weak from the strong. From the beginning the service was one part of the bureaucracy, the other being the civil administration. Administration collects the necessary levies for running the state, provides introductory communal amenities and smooths the day to day lives of the citizens. The duty of the service was to maintain internal order, to cover the citizens' property to insure the essential security of life.

When you say power, it consists of three things, the number of military, wealth, and weaponry. We see that wealthy countries like Brunei are untouchable because of their wealth and they don't really need to build their nuclear base because the other countries that have some weapon of mass destruction are offering them protection. I mean, countries that have some more powerful weapons are also in need of other wealthy countries to support them and that's how it goes. I may say the most powerful country in today's era is no other than China because they have all of those traits and they don't need any country to protect them in case they will declare war.

There is one thing that makes a country greater than another country, even when it is a weaker country. God is the answer.

Two of the reasons why God makes a country stronger than others are:

1. The people of the country believe in God, and are sincerely asking for His help and protection;

2. In the case of a wicked country becoming powerful, it is God making people of all countries be more sincere in their worship of Him. When people are oppressed without a way out, they plead with God for help... in sincerity.

Cool

This keeps me wondering if China believes in God

We can't really ask if a 'country' believes in God. Why not? Because some of the people do, and some don't.

Essentially, all people believe in God way down deep. Why? Because we all are made up of the Spirit/Image of God at our core. Some people claim that they don't believe, because they can't see through the mess of distractions in their lives. Others recognize God, but have a dim view. This means that they can't see what God is all about correctly. There is no clear picture of God anywhere, that portrays Him completely accurately.

What one needs is a sufficient amount of God - Jesus - so that he can be saved. It's like a swimmer who is drowning. He may be deep in the water and realize he has little hope. He may be near the surface. But it's only when he gets his head out of the water that he can breathe. And if he grabs that round life-saver that somebody threw to him, only then can he stabilize his life in the water. Jesus is the life-saver. So...

Regarding China, the people are at different stages in their salvation... their belief about God that is worthwhile. Some have their heads above water. Some have even taken a strong stance in their faith by grabbing the life-saver. Most are still under water.

However, if the US ever dropped a nuke on China, it would take out both the believers and the unbelievers in the area it was dropped on. But the taking-out is only for this life.

Those are definitely 2 metrics that matter, but I wouldn’t say the only two. Especially now as inflation is extremely high and countries are debasing their currencies. I would argue that maybe more important than GDP is access to natural resources. If a country has an abundance of resources that they are willing to access, other countries will bend over backwards to get their hands on them…

This resources you just mentioned makes me  believe that some countries really lack good leadership that have the will power to harness and utilize the abundant resources within the country. Because some countries really have these resources but find are not in anywhere recognized as one of most powerful. What we are facing here in my country

These powerful countries have influence because to some other countries these countries have been more successful than they have in some certain areas that these countries which to be, hence the respect that brings influence.

The question now is what makes these countries more powerful than others?
I think a powerful country is a stable country with very strong military strength and have great influence over other countries, a powerful country also has very strong allies and relationship with other big countries that respect them.

The main point all still boild down into militiary power.
why do you think US keep investing and maintain their militiary as the best on the world? forbid most country to have nuclear weapon, letting it monopolized only by few country.
have good resource? without proper militiary, will just end up llike middle east and africa where their resource got exploited.

According to societal analogy The Military Might of a country is the first thing to consider when comparing how powerful a country is to others. The level of a country's military intelligence  ,hardwares ,tactical operations,  records of successful battles won ,involvements in peace keeping in other countries and being an ally to smaller countries who seek military help to combat external and internal aggressions etc are part of the qualities used to identify a powerful country

More so , as power have different types,  the second criteria used to qualify a powerful country is its Economic Status , which involves   ,the high standard of living of the citizens of a country , the sufficiency of food supply of a country , the availability of jobs and social amenities ,the presence of industries and production companies etc

Another criteria would be The Political Stability of a country,  the favourable laws that encourages the freedom of Human Rights and laws that encourages economic policies  etc  ,shows how powerful a country is

Factors i think that make the country powerful are ,obviously as you all mentioned the one is strong military and other is a great leadership because without great leadership how a country become powerful.
Economic and political influence also have a lot of contribution to make country powerful.
The country should also have a strong international alliances.
military power is the major one, then strong political allies is the second one.
If your military power is well equipped other countries will be affair and any policy or ideals egaited by the powerful country will be respected by all because of the military power of that country. That's why today, whatsoever the US says always stand.
Every country should strength Their military power and associates with powerful allies in the world to command respect.

For a country to be powerful, a lot of factors must come into play, ranging from economy (the quality of things they produce), military, education of its citizenry and also the intelligence of the people, infrastructure ( good roads, good hospital's, good school's) etc. Trust me, if you add this factors together, as against a country that doesn't have this factors, you will see why some countries are powerful than the others. Take a look at the third world countries, some of them don't have those factors listed, and as such they are regarded as less powerful.

Firstly a strong military, with a strong military that country will be able to conquer and win wars. Secondly, abundant of natural resources as said by Ognasty,as long as there is abundant resources, other countries will need them to survive and this will strengthen the country's economy. It will also attract powerful countries to have interest to help them in times of war.

Thirdly, when there is abundant natural resources there should also be people to work, for the country to be productive. Good number of population is also needed, since it is the people that will go into the military to fight,a country with low population will not wage war with a country that has high population,if they are equal in strength. The more the population, the better chance of winning. Let's take Russia and Ukraine war as a case study,I see that so many countries are assisting Ukraine in manpower because they can't face Russia who has high population than Ukraine.

Lastly GDP this is a very important factor as it is the backbone of every country

Well if the strength of a nation where to be measured by the number of military might and economic growth alone, I think the US and China would have been considered first. Now a country with a large population may produce a vast output and field a huge army but it would be taxing to bear and can even drain the wealth of the country due to the load of catering for the security and military needs.

Imagine a war ridden country like Afghanistan, ordinarily will not be ranked in world's most powerful countries, but have enough natural resources to make the US and other powerful nations set their sights on them.

But saying they have a weak military is not really, if they have a weak army, how can they become the country with the most nuclear warheads in the world and not stop there, they are still leading the military when constantly developing the most advanced weapons, the latest in the world. While their defense budget is much lower than that of the US, China, or Japan.

Military might used to be the first indicator of a powerful nation in the past. Because strong nations can easily invade wealthy nations and take over their wealth. An example is Persia under Cyrus the Great which some historians believe to be one of the first superpower empires. In recent times it has also been a source of strength for some nations. Nations like Iran and North Korea cannot be pushed aside or overlooked in global politics because even if it is assumed that they are economically weak, they are militarily strong.

But in recent times economic development has become the number one indicator of a strong nation because these rich nations can afford to buy or invest in their security. Economically developed countries can easily align with militarily strong nations to get the needed protection.
But the combination of military and economic might makes a country very powerful and the US, Russia, and China possess these two qualities.
