One things I’ve noticed with addiction is that it happens mostly to things that are highly risky and are also highly profitable in the sense that you can use any amount of money to get any amount of money you can imagine. The hopes of getting rush through that means keeps the mind addicted to it and always persuading yourself that you’ll get it right one day no matter what. Gambling is even more prevalent in societies that are facing a lot of hardship or most common in vulnerable people that tend to see a way out of abject poverty through gambling. They may want to always consider spending some little amount on bets in hopes of maybe they can win big one day not knowing that the addiction is already setting in. Addiction I know mostly of are with things that don’t require you to spend much on in most cases and that you can easily partake in any part of the world with.

People who cannot resist the urge to gamble when they have lost are people who in my opinion have failed to have and build good discipline in themselves when gambling. Those like this will not feel satisfied even when they win at gambling, there will be a feeling of continuing to pursue greater victories and there is an urge to continue gambling when they lose. This is because they were wrong in responding to gambling at first.
You are right, gambling itself is not a bad thing when done with good responsibility, such as having limits on the money allocated for gambling and being aware of when to stop gambling, such as not extending a gambling session when you have lost. This thread might be posted nearly a decade ago, but I believe that it's still relevant to this date.

Now to answer the question, it's the desire to win money on gambling that makes them addicted to it. I've seen many gamblers that shared their story on various social media platforms and most of them says the same thing. They start to gamble, win huge money on their first try, and after that, they want to win more money, until it come to a point where they will lose all of them. Now if they lose their initial capital, they want to recover it so they will deposit and the cycle goes on, and on, and on until they get addicted into gambling already.

I don't know anybody that's heavily into gambling personally, but I've seen many gamblers that shared their story in gambling, and all of them had negative experiences about it. As for me, it all comes to how good are you at controlling yourself, and the proper mindset. There's nothing wrong with gambling in general. It's the mindset of the gamblers that what makes their life either fruitful or miserable.

IMHO.

It's not about getting rich quick but getting quick money through gambling and we all know that it is how it works. With that mindset, something doesn't become proper.

Those that have seen people lucky, potential addicted gamblers becomes jealous of them. And if they think that it did happened to them, it's also possible that they might be a fortunate gambler.

They try and try until they start to see the signs of being an addicted gambler with bad results but they are having hard time in accepting it.
