I think instead of one there should be two higher ranks that may be more than legendary rank. One of those should be titled as Elite and the other one should be titled as Mythic or Mythical. I believe the highest rank should be Mythical and the members who have 5000 merits plus 3000 activity should get to that rank and the Elite rank should be for the members who may have at least 3000 merits and 2000 activity. That would be the best new change in the Bitcointalk.
I honestly don't see what would forum (or forum members) gain with more ranks and that's one of the changes I wouldn't like to see.

Since we recently got one of the most important changes (2FA) the next one I would like to see is bitcointalk being optimzied for mobile phone use. I personally don't miss it that much since majority of the time I am on my computer, but I know that there are many members who don't even own computers or prefer to use their mobile phones and that would make their life much easier.

It would be nice to finally get a new forum considering that we have been waiting for it for a long time. Although if that happens one day, I have to admit that I will miss the old forum.
On the contrary, I would not want a new forum, because I like the simplicity and elegance of the existing forum. Something like old school style. Smiley

I'm only willing to accept cosmetic changes on the forum if it benefits people. Right away, nothing even comes to mind for me to add. In principle, I am happy with everything here.

As for the mixers, I think it's a finished story and the chances of the admin withdrawing their decision are less than 1%.
I believe the probability is even lower than 1%. Regulators have begun to put too much pressure on mixers and even confidential coins.

I came to this thread with a few ideas, but those were already been expressed:

We need a new, more elite one to separate truly elite members from the standard Legendary members.

I would suggest 3000 Activity and maybe 5000 Received Merit as the qualification numbers.

Rank title - Elite or something like that (open to better suggestions).

As already pointed out, Elite would be inappropriate. I would prefer mythical (also a nice reference to Halo...). Of course, on the downside, I would be excluded from this new class... for the moment.

Either one of these:

1. Mobile friendly interface
2. Security and privacy board

Mobile theme: I would like it very much. I am posting 80% of my content from mobile, and I am accustomed to all that zoom in, zoom out, and scroll, but I understand it is not for everybody. And actually, many new potential members are discouraged by this.

The security and privacy board would be a great addition to the forum.

I agree with you on that new higher rank creation. I think instead of one there should be two higher ranks that may be more than legendary rank. Frankly speaking, a newer rank asides from the legendary one to be created will only mean one thing; a request for another one once the time comes since this one may have been attained. One thing to know is humans are insatiable and very competitive beings so such could come into play later on in the future.
Preferably, we stick with the legendary rank as the ultimate or if there's still need for a more higher rank than that, how about adding the "Elite" to the legendary to make it Elite legendary or maybe Sage?

I do not think that more than one developer is needed for forum upgrade. Just one good developer is sufficient for this. Most of the forum paid software allow assisted installation. Just to tweak the settings as per own requirement, one developer might be required. He can also be hired as a freelancer.

I disagree, rebuilding this highly customized version of SMF will take much more than one person, if the job is to be done efficiently throughout its entire course. We are also talking about building something that satisfies a very large community, which means there will need to be someone handling community feedback throughout the alpha and beta phases, and who are able to pass this information onto developers in their language. This is only one role, then there are front-end/back-end developers, UI roles, etc. More than one person will definitely be required to complete the job with maximum satisfaction to all stakeholders.

In fact, there are so many good and talented guys supporting the forum that I would not be surprised if someone is ready to handle the forum upgrade for free as a goodwill.

I doubt this highly, or else, why aren't we seeing people put their hands up in the new forum software board?

Come on man it's obvious that what I actually wish is for the Mempool to be less conjested. Because obviously, if the Mempool becomes less conjested people will no long create topic complaining about high fees or looking for solutions to fix the situations of their stuck transactions.
As for the mixer ban it would definitely be a thing of joy if it was removed. However with the current situation of things, sadly I don't think it would happen.
I think he's actually trying to bring to your notice that the mempool congestion issue is not just a BitcoinTalk problem per se, but a general Bitcoin technology problem but I actually understand why it's something you want to be attended to or better yet solved because it sort of slows transactions. I just hope it gets fixed too.

For me, I'd love to see more readership from newbies to help avoid the incessant "I'm a newbie" threads being created.

That would be convenient for you though, right? Because you'd instantly be promoted to this new "Elite". A friendly warning, elites are my enemies. The world stage elites I mean. 🙃😉

- Progress in the new forum software development, or an allocation of funds toward getting new developers onto the job. News about how much funding is left, or any information that will help the community arrange progress.

Anyone who has been on the forum for a long time has become accustomed to it, I think, as their home place. Innovations, on the contrary, will be an unusual change if they differ sharply from the previous ones. Now that I am visiting other forums, I want to see how simple it is here. Advertising banners, colorful advertisements, likes, and “thank yous” only distract from the necessary information. Therefore, let all this not happen on this forum. He's good for what he is. And that's the beauty of it. Newbies who come here from colorful websites and social networks should rejoice, as the rigor of the design will preserve their vision.
When I joined this forum newly I was actually full of complaints. This is because I came from the social media background and when I entered here I expected some beautiful coloration and better graphics. It was actually the period that I was in the lower ranks that people were complaining seriously about a new software. But as time passes I became accustomed to the nature of this forum and now I appreciate the importance of having a natural forum like this.

I have visited some other forums and including Altcoinstalks recently, there's none to be compared here. This sky blue background preserves my site and gives it the convenience it deserves.
what colorful interface and social media kinds of features will someone of a matured conceptualize mindset be asking for after going around the board's in the forum and seeing how coordinated things work here. Anyone asking for likes/love and other colorful features to be add in the forum should go look for that in other social media platforms, in here we mean real bitcoin business investment interactions and any other real world educative discussions and nothing less. I think newbies should learn to appreciate what they come here to see and find ways to adapt to the forum and not giving irrelevant suggestions of what they saw in other social media platforms. This is what I like to see newbie doing this year.

What new changes would you like to see on Bitcointalk in 2024 ?  Or do you like the forum exactly as it is ?
Bitcointalk itself is already useful and helpful to everyone most especially for newbies. But if there will be possible improvements  that will happen in the future, that will be better. Positive changes are important since it can also improve the welfare of the forum members.

I hope to see more significant topics that are only related to bitcoin and the crypto market, and not those off topics. Some also resort into creating redundant topics just to have something to share in the forum. We need authenticity and originality in the forum, so being resourcefulness is highly encouraged.

This may actually not be changes but some requests being put into consideration, one is to the applications of all the new applicants for merits sources, the admin can choose to create time and visits some of them and also grant them approval if possible after due considerations, also check in some of the inactive ones and make some changes concerning them, secondly is to also look into some local boards activities and make review on their performance and granted some requests from those that have been having an improved records of success in their local boards activities level.

I would be looking out for an alternative way of supporting those creating an engaging topic on the board that might not be merited yet.

Like, setting up a default system that can automatically merit a conversation that has up to an 100 replies with say 5 to 10 merit.

Threads with that many replies yet lacking even a handful of merits from users might not have been worth awarding merits in the first place.

Take, for example, the Bounty (Altcoins) section. Many threads there have more than 100 replies, none of which contribute anything valuable to the forum or deserve merit. Why would you advocate for a system that automatically rewards such unproductive threads?

Of course I support the development so far in the forum, I want everyone to be careful to protect this forum from scammers.

Many members are running to different places to color, I think they are greedy, mixer signature campaigns are moving to other places so many members are running.

Let love lead
A lot of beginners here are very lost and there are lots of information on the beginners and help section that it feels overwhelming for newbies to just consume and start up on the right foot and honestly, the motivation is very low from the start, until you're a full member. In view of these discouraging complexity of this forum to a newbie,

I'm proposing a sort of a video tutorial from one of the very senior members on the rules of engagements and forum whereabouts to help prepare these newbies with an easier to consume content.
Secondly, these training can be organized monthly in the beginners and help section and it can run for the first week and end with a kind of bitcoin knowledge quiz and a writing contest, to train new users on how to make quality posts. It should promise to be fun and engaging. This will give our newbies a proper sense of belonging and engagement, prepare them properly for the journey ahead of them.

There may be limitations to number of times  an account can participate in the newbie competitions, but the video contents about the forum should be available for everyone to consume anytime and any day.

There are many changes that have been integrated in the forum throughout 2023 and these are welcomed by every user. I'm not sure what other changes or improvements to expect - maybe a more mobile-friendly display or something. In terms of security - the forum already has 2FA, while you can also recognize the topic creator by "OP".

What has not been approved throughout 2023 is only; additional merit source. So I think they might need to consider some new merit sources in 2024 - especially for users who have already prepared themselves by applying with 10 worth posts or more.

Until now:

Theymos has made changes to the forum this year, to be honest they were a little more than I expected. I was of the opinion that nothing fundamental changes in Bitcointalk but I was proven wrong. Theymos really sees all the requests made on meta. For the new year, I would love if Theymos grants at least one of request for a merit source in the Nigerian local board. And also a merit source for the gambling board. I think both boards are in dire need of merits.

I think the forum is great as it is although of course, there are a few things that I would love to see at least in the foreseeable future if not at once. Before anything else, we all know that 2023's been a very tumultuous ride for the forum but we're still in one shape! Congratulations to all of us, 2023 was not a joke and I think I speak for everyone here when I say we're happy you're still with us, whoever's reading this.

Now, back to the focus of the discussion. So I got a couple things that I would love to see more in this forum, first off, a more standardized meriting system. The merit system when it was introduced is one of the most awesome things about the forum. It allowed people at least in paper, to actually be incentivized for putting in the effort to create productive content, but as it stands today, merit sources who are supposed to be able to provide merits as they see fit had to wait for weeks, sometimes months in order to get their merit bags filled so they can approve of good content. Now I'm not solely putting the blame to the mods or whatever, it's just the fact that most of us here are sitting at 40 maybe 50+ merits which we could've shared towards each other.

It would be really awesome if there's a standardized merit system, such as if someone who's sitting in 20+ sendable merits aren't able to send any of his in the next 120 days, it goes back to the pool to be shared amongst merit sources so they can carry on with their work. That way our poor heroes wouldn't have to beg or wait to get their jobs done.

I also would second putting out a standardized newbie introduction board/place so newbies wouldn't have to introduce themselves or ask for the most common stuff in high-level info boards and forums. It ruins the environment and incites the same action towards newbies which dilutes the quality of the board. I heard that this has been in the works already but I wanna see it at least in the next 3-5 years. Should do our forum a massive solid that way.

Changes have been rampant early this year so I think the forum is now good enough except for the last change this year which is mixers will no longer be allowed. I think the admin should try to consider giving it another chance but it seems the decision is final and we won't be seeing mixers for good.

The meriting system is another thing. I hope to see changes on how these newbies have established their mindset about earning merits. The forum does not exist to provide merits but to educate the members most especially the newbies. I hope this will be an eye opener to those newbies that they should not rush earning merits as it loses the essence why they are in the forum in the first place.

I support your recommendation I recommend a brand new level account where you are restricted to the brand new welcome section and you need to create a post
There's no brand new welcome section, just a welcome message which new users will be promoted to read upon registration and can also access at any point later on in the forum.

We will not be getting any more forms of restrictions for lower ranked members since Newbie jail was stopped.

I would also like to have the ability to modify our account's usernames. Lets see what 2024 Brings for us.

Members actually can request for it! but their account must be in a good standing in terms of reputation plus have a good reason for such change.

I honestly like the way things are right now-- when it comes to username change. It could cause extra confusion and give birth to scam attempts if this was available to everyone.

We already got a couple of changes in 2023, more than we had the last five years on the forum, so don't want to sound to greedy.

But top of my list will be the Newbie Welcome Message. It has been too many years in the works and should help get rid of all the newbie introduction posts asking for guidance as well as actually pointing new members in the direction they should go.

I support your recommendation I recommend a brand new level account where you are restricted to the brand new welcome section and you need to create a post
in the Brand New Discussion and Forum rules discussion after you create two posts you will ranked up to the newbie level and that's when the whole section of the forum will be open up to newbies.
And also to take away the evil fee if possible because of the huge transaction fee.

Although I do not expect much from the administration to make major changes in the forum, since I notice that the updating processes are carried out slowly and very carefully. This is acceptable as long as it keeps the forum robust and working well.

One of the wishes that I am waiting for its fulfillment is to activate the new forum software and see it work. This new forum software project is moving at the speed of a turtle and all possible changes are supposed to be in it. I also noticed that the community is not much interested in it anymore.

Personally I'm not waiting for big changes. After all in 2023 we got 2FA what is big thing and we waited for it so long. New forum software, I doubt that we will get it next year. And I'm not sure that I'm waiting for it that much. After so many years using current version it will be difficult to get used to new forum look.
Mainly I just want no more changes in negative direction. Mixers got banned from forum this year, not worth to expect that it will return. But I don't want to see more things banned from Bitcointalk because of regulations or pressure from institutions.

I would to see some social media elements in this forum. like Notification Feature and Tagging other members (when we tag someone his username become clickable. and also he'll get notified that someone tagged you) But I think implementing these features ina SMF forum would be very difficult. otherwise forum Admins would've already had these features. believe me these would make our forum navigation a lot easier.

I'd like to see less useless topics, if you catch my drift.

I don't see any other way to discourage users from creating useless/repetitive topics/posts than to report each such post/topic to the moderator and be deleted. Each board should have a sticky topic like the one that exists in the Bitcoin discussion, and all those members who ignore it and persist in thread/post spamming should receive a temporary ban. If even then they do not understand the message, there is nothing left but to ban them from participating in the forum.

The real question is when we will see our wishes to come true even if we mention them here, that's because 2FA was implemented a few days ago. I think the admins don't have time for this forum that's why they have moderators and mod might not have this kind of job to manage the improvements like new modifications. Well the one and only feature I want in BTT is whenever I enter a URL tag the = (equals to) sign should be written automatically.

And whenever I have to use underline italic, or Bold tags, I just have to select the text and would use the hotkeys like ctrl+B to bold the text, instead of selecting the text and then clicking on the bold tag. It is just too annoying. Besides this, I hope the issue that we see of invisible sticker other than the above mentioned ones in edit tools will be solved even if those sticker shows up in the post but if written in text editor of BTT they are not in preview.

I like the forum the way it is and I believe the forum doesn't need any changes at all. If any change that's necessary for the betterment of the forum then that's removing of all those board that aren't active anymore as more board without any activity are some extra burden on the forum's space. If that somehow takes place then I would want a few good board to be created which have been requested by the members many times.

I got some ideas for changes I wanna see happen on Bitcointalk.  First off, theres way too much spam and scams all over the place there and  it is super annoying trying to find real info or talk to people when theres all these fake bots and whatnot interfering.  We gotta get some better filters to block that junk.

Also, searching for stuff here pretty much sucks.  The search engine we got now barely works half the time.  Upgrade to something more powerful thatll index everything people post.  That wouldd help big time when trying to find old threads about stuff.

Oh and it should be easier to use on phones and tablets! The site looks janky on mobile.  I end up pinchin and zooming like crazy trying to click buttons and links.  Optimize it to work good on smaller screens.

They could also step up the community features.  Let us like or share good posts we find.  Get people more engaged.  Maybe even add some blockchain voting and identity checks.  Thatll secure things and give more control to real users.

Anyway those changes would really improve Bitcointalk in my opinion.  Make it less shady and annoying to use.

There will definitely be some new changes in the forum in 2024 as the admin has already hinted, I can't wait to see how it looks then. But still, I think the forum software is so outdated if an upgrade is done to compete with the latest technology, it will be fine. But that is by the way.

What I am longing for is the selection of new merits sources and the delisting of some others that do not deserve it. This is long overdue as there are some boards that deserve merit sources, even some sections of the forum need active members who merit quality posts there. This, I believe will happen in 2024, I hope I am not disappointed though.

BTC, a coin of today and tomorrow.
What new changes would you like to see on Bitcointalk in 2024 ?
I'd like to see less useless topics, if you catch my drift.
LOL.
Then you have to write a script that will loop into users post, examine the quality of the post before it will be delivered to the forum. Maybe, there will be some word filters and if a post doesn't carry those words, it will mean that the post is more useless and may never be auto approved. If this works,  the place of the freedom you champion will be lost.
The forum is more complete and fun when there is a mixture of useful and useless posts.

I stand with Ukraine!
Alot of new changes already took place in 2023, some which members disliked like Mixers will no longer be allowed after Jan  and some which we all appreciated like the adding of 2FAto the system. All these changes had positive and negative influence on the forum.
2FA is a most wanted feature in Bitcointalk and it was asked many times over many years, by forum community members so this development (by PowerGlove) and deployment (by theymos) should be given a massive round of applause.

About mixer ban, will it give negative impacts on the forum and its members?

I totally disagree, no negative impacts from it, I see it brings positive impacts for the forum.

For me, I would appreciate if mixers were still allows in 2024 and maybe some kind of rules would be placed to guide them all instead of totally removing them.
I wish they will not come back here until something change in a positive way for mixers in regulation.

What new changes would you like to see on Bitcointalk in 2024 ?  Or do you like the forum exactly as it is ?
The main change I wanted to see in the forum was 2FA, and it was already added a few days ago. Maybe adding this earlier would have saved some members accounts from bruteforce and phishing but thanks for adding up this. But what I want now is to bring back the mixer services, although I respect the forum's decision, I would be happy to restart these services keeping the safety of the forum first.
Moreover, I want to see the local thread of Bangladesh and Pakistan in the local board section in 2024. And want to see the merit source for them.

Eloncoin.org - Mars, here we come!
Apart from being a Nigerian and wishing for more merit source, I wouldn't ask for any change in the forum yet because it might cause some bad effect which I don't know but certainly when there is so much change it could probably shift the forum from what it use to be to another whole new thing.

If only spamming, plagiarism, AI contents etc could be reduced then it should be in my agenda for next year.

This question has been asked literally every single year for almost a decade now and my answer would still be better mobile UX. The EpochTalk forum software has been "in development" since forever now though so I don't think anyone should expect a release any time soon.
I love the ideal of a mobile software and lately I have been trying to design a preview of the mobile Bitcointalk forum gathering ideals from SMF updated forums. I will certainly finish it up and upload here some day  Cool

Bitcoin mixers should be allowed back.
The moderators are doing everything to ban plagiarists. About mempool congestion, it is normal because as it started, people transactions are stuck and they will ask about how to solve the stuck transaction. About congestion mempool, this is not related to this forum but to bitcoin itself.

New forum software. Although I am not expecting it but it would be good if we have new forum software.

But top of my list will be the Newbie Welcome Message. It has been too many years in the works and should help get rid of all the newbie introduction posts asking for guidance as well as actually pointing new members in the direction they should go.
I do not know where I have seen it before, but it is what is welcome on this forum. I do not think that can be done.

There has been a whole lot of changes this year.however I would love to see less plagiarism, less use of alts and most especially I would love there to be less posts about conjestions in the mempool. It may seem like so much to ask but I wish it was possible so Bitcoiners here would not have to go through the stress of battling ways to tackle the current high fee problem anytime they wish to make transaction. Like come to think of it part of Satoshi's idea was to make a suitable and easy peer-to-peer currency. But lately Bitcoin has become more of an investment than a P2P currency.

It would be nice to finally get a new forum considering that we have been waiting for it for a long time. Although if that happens one day, I have to admit that I will miss the old forum.

As for the mixers, I think it's a finished story and the chances of the admin withdrawing their decision are less than 1%.

I would like to see this one when I wake up on the next year.

Plagiarism, usage of multiple accounts, discuss about a particular topic are committed by user. It's something like very very unlikely to happen except the forum turns strict about their rules.

If there is actually a new change on this forum I believe every one would like and appreciate come 2024, it is that theymos reverses his statement on the mixer ban which is scheduled to take effect as from January 1st, 2024, a news from theymos on the 1st of January announcing that the mixer ban news was all a joke  Grin, would raise a sound of joy all through this forum and liberate alot of users again.

Away from the above, as a Nigerian myself, we have alot of pending proposals which are yet to be either approved or rejected, come 2024, I would like theymos to approve our NAIJA local board sub-board creation request, and as well, grant approval to some, or all the merit source application from some of our reputable local board users.

We already got a couple of changes in 2023, more than we had the last five years on the forum, so don't want to sound to greedy.
If the changes are helping to grow the forum ( which in most cases are) , it does not hamper to be greedy.
