Greetings all, please I would like to get the gist of what rewards do the one who Merits other people quality post gets in return. Because I got this thinking, if the system is bond to replenish the merits back to the ones who are meant to send out those merits or they still have to work for it. or there is a certain set of legendaries who's duty is to give out merits.

Your clarification is most welcomed thanks.✌️
There are actually no things coming back for those who gives merits. Maybe that member that received a merit might be thankful to the other member who gaved him some merits.
Giving merits is a means of appreciation to those quality posts that are being published here. It is also a really big help for those that are working hard and seeking for some merits to rank-up.

I feel the biggest reward is the "Knowledge" that you gain from the post. Rewards are Momentary but the knowledge is enduring!!

Why do someone should expect a reward for meriting a quality post? You got the merits for posting quality posts and in return, you should merit other posts that are meritable. This will be a mutual reward.

I have come to realise this the best way to appreciate members in the forum and in turn making them to get up to the rank they so desire as time and years runs by. Which will pay up so dearly when it comes to handling of Bounty Campaign.

You get what you give! By meriting others, you help them to rank up and give them a stimulus to keep writing high quality posts. So, as a result we get a forum that has a higher percentage of high quality posters that makes this place absolutely better.
When you'll ask a question, if 9 from 10 was posting spammy answers, now this number will be reduced. Just see the result of merit implementation for these years. If people wouldn't merit each other, then we wouldn't see this result. I don't say that this forum has turned into goddess intellectual place but there is significant improvement in this aspect.

On another hand, I guess no one has noticed this but there are some old/new threads with high quality seo profile because of backlinks and etc. When you merit posts in such thread's main page, you get backlink from it on your profile and this makes your profile's seo score higher and backlink from your profile gets better but hope no one will merit unnecessary posts because of this reason.

Also when you more smerit on post, you are shown on top and it increases celebrity on this forum at some point Cheesy

It depends on what exchange and how much many we are talking about. The old school rule are never leave money on exchange because many exchange exit scam before. But if you are using well known exchange like binance and coinbase which has a solid legal documents to support there business credibility then there's no need to worry. But also its up to user preferences IMHO.

Let's say we are talking about whole savings here then obviously don't let it stay on exchange for a whole but if its just a portion of money that you used for trading then it's ok to leave it there because you will suffer loss on withdrawal fee if you keep withdraw and deposit more often because you can't catch the perfect opportunity on trading if your balance is out on exchange since movement in crypto our very fast.
Our money is at risk no matter what exchange we are using, lets talk about coinbase which is one of the most reputed crypto trading platform and also more popular for many user's funds got hacked and also users lost their money to the exchange for silly mistakes which violates their terms of service. If you are a trader then it is okay to keep funds on an exchange but never says fee as an exchange for holding coins in exchange's wallet.

We shouldn't keep our cryptocurrencies on exchange for too long and its just basic information should be learned by everyone.
It eventually will, but it is a process and it can't happen over night. Crypto is still in its infancy. It's a baby. Some people understood its benefits immediately, but others need more time. Take into account that for many people it is normal that other institutions handle their money (banks, insurance companies...). We were born in a world where our parents used banks, their parents trusted banks, and we began using banks before crypto. Depending on how old you are of course.

it's going to be a long battle before people understand that it is in their own interest that they be in control of their own money. Are you aware that in the 80s many Americans were against the use of seat belts and didn't want them being enforced by law? They probably didn't see any advantages in them and though their freedoms were being threatened.

tldr; it's unfortunately because a lot of people are on Bitcointalk solely to make money, and nothing else. This is why you see people that have bajillions of posts and have been here for a while, but is still using a cryptocurrency exchange as their main wallet.

We have different people here.
Some people are btc experts and you can learn a lot from them.
Some people like btc and they are trying to learn something here.
Unfortunately,  some people are just merit hunters and think only about earning potential here.
I'm always happy to reward first and second group of people with merits for quality and constructive posts but feel tired from third group of people because they are asking all the time the same questions :
"How to earn here? "
"How to get merits? " etc.
It's boring and trying to avoid such posts.
I'm always happy to support sincere members for their contribution in the forum and don't need any reward for it.

Most of the guys saying we do get nothing in return but literally we are gaining new information about something while meriting a post that is a huge reward, to be honest.
I guess that's because they definitely don't know the outcome of being on bitcointalk forum, or probably they don't know the reason of being here. It will be funny that some old or new members on this forum don't know that the whole thing about cryptocurrency (bitcoin) started here.

I guess as a member you will not really benefit from giving merits maybe it might give you a good profit since your generous in giving merits.

But more like it benefits the forum since the merit is regulating since your giving merit to who deserves it the most.

Maybe you could be friends with the other members or something.

I think the biggest reward of the one who gives merited for the written text is gratitude. If the post turned out to be useful to someone, then the satisfaction of the received, I think will please both. Both the giver and the taker. Thus, gaining merited motivates a person to write useful posts even better. And the acquisition of knowledge and experience on the forum is useful not only for beginners.

So you think merit senders are deserving some rewards for sending their smerits to the quality posters? Let's tell me how you are able to send merits to someone?/how you get the smerits? If someone give you merits then you will earn some smerits to send the quality posters. It will not help you if you hold it. But it will help someone if you send it to others (quality posters). So what is better? keep holding the smerits/helping others by sending it to quality posts? I think it is a good work and your responsibility.

Implementing a reward system will reduce the quality as more members will merit post just to achieve rewards. The current concept which is in practice is working as it has improved the quality of post.

It would be nice if a Merit system can be added for those who are reporting spam content in the forum. This will drastically reduce spam post by a significant amount. I know it is increase the pressure on moderators a lot but it will help the forum in the long run.

Trust me if this👇

Most people just keep getting merited over making quality posts, especially for those that are very informative and answer the question of the thread with just a few words. Merit sources have their number of merits limited to around 30 days iirc? You can check this out if you want to see the top replies/posts that received merits.

People are really underestimating how big of a positive factor the merit system is.
And if you're relatively new to the forum and registered after Jan 2018, you might not have a sense of how bad things were before the merit system came about.  Things were so bad in certain sections that you'd probably have been justified in reporting every other post in every single thread--there was no discussion going on, just a free-for-all where idiots plopped down garbage posts as quickly as they could.  And if they were high-ranked accounts, they got paid more and it wasn't difficult to rank up one or more accounts.  All it took was time and posting.

OP, hopefully you've gotten your answer.  The merit sources are volunteer members who get an extra allowance of sMerits, and Theymos puts his trust in them that they'll spread the merits around in a fair manner.  There's no reward for doing so, but for members like me who really appreciate the merits system, it's an honor to be a source (sorta).  Most sources are anonymous anyway--unpaid and unrecognized and behind the sceens, and personally I'm cool with that.

Hell nah, the merit system is designed to get a better quality readings in forum not just for a fancy stuff or fame unlike facebook. We are all free to merit someone if he posted something that we find helpful or creative to us.  And so what if we don't get any rewards to ourselves from meriting others, that's not the main point of the system.

As we are talking about facebook, there are reaction thing on facebook (like, amaze, sad, angry, heart) So I'm thinking if we could also have those as reason for meriting someone  Huh I think it would be cool.

Thats right, because the merit isnt moderated so you are free to send it to anyone you think is appropriate as long as it doesnt break the rules. Posts that are constructive, useful, and of quality are the criteria for posts that the merit can post.

Basically it is rather difficult to identify which users are posting only to be appropriate with users who are trying to be better. We have no standard here on how to determine this and so far only rely on hunches and check post history. During this time I really appreciate users who want to do better and appreciate their efforts with merit and as long as they are right then they should get it.

What rewards you get when you like your Facebook friend's post?

Edit

Hmm not sure if we should look at it in the same way.

1. You can like as much as you want on Facebook without limits(probably until you get hit by the spam filter).
2. You can like even the crappy posts on Facebook as long as it's hilarious or something.
3. With the merit system, you don't necessarily need to want or "like" the post, the post being high-quality might suffice(completely depending on the post itself). Probably even if you disagree with the post.
4. You can recklessly like as much as you want on Facebook but you need to be more responsible and a bit more "picky" when giving out merits.

I didn't mean it exactly like Facebook like system, I gave OP a layman overview so he can get the gist of the merit system.

Absolutely not. A property tax on unsent merits would make more sense.

As for rewards... many nice things have been mentioned earlier in the thread but they're mostly false. There is no reward, literal or figurative. It's mostly dealing with beggars, whiners about too few or too many merits sent, accusations of favoritism, accusations of corrupting the trust system or signature campaigns or some such bullshit, and huge amounts of eye-bleeding spam to read. It's like working one of those soul-crushing jobs - e.g. a kindergarten teacher with extremely spoiled rich brats - you gotta have an irrational attachment to it because no amount of "reward" can ever match it.

Well, the secret merit source club with blow and hookers helps to endure it but I'm not supposed to talk about that.

Merits are given to the people who deserve because they have good quality content or post, but how about to the people giving the merit do they receive rewards? absolutely in the other perspective, they don't receive anything but somehow I think in personal aspect it gives a lot of pleasure if you help other people giving what they deserve and also at the same time you are helping them to achieve a rank up and reach the rank what they want. If you see the person you give your merit and you see them keep making an improvement its look like a reward. Also, they create the merit system at the same time to avoid getting too much spam and just given to the people who contribute a lot to our forum.

Now am glad to pick out this statement:

I strongly disagree with this. It's the same idea, but with different reasons behind. Likes can be abused (in Facebook). And here, merit abuse and subjective (when the merit circulates on a group of person) is strongly prohibited (AFAIK). More likely it is either the heart react or the laugh react. Therefore, it is not just about how you like a post, merits must be depends on how it helps the community and the users with the information you've posted.

When someone merits your posts because they liked them since it's your right to get merited for quality posts, you have also a duty to merit those who have good posts.

Right to get merited? No one has right to be merited. It depends on your performance and the quality of your works. And there's no such thing as "duty to merit" if you have sMerit, it's a choice. It's like buying a product, have you liked the product? Merit him (buy the product). And not all products (posts) are of the same quality and usefulness.

With rights comes duty.

When someone merits your posts because they liked them since it's your right to get merited for quality posts, you have also a duty to merit those who have good posts.

It's like paying tax.

What do you benefit by paying tax? Nothing. But it's your duty to pay tax. And in return the government gives you constitutional rights to enjoy.

So why give merits to others? Because you get merits from others for good posts Smiley

Though I really have no problem with merit sources getting paid(by whoever, for whatever reason), I completely doubt it. Fortunately there's just so much people that are voluntarily willing to be merit sources, without anything in return(probably besides bragging rights). Like what they've said, you will not get rewards (e.g. money, freebies etc.) in return once you give merits to anyone. But with the simple act of kindness that you did, good karma will follow you for sure. The receiver might give merit to your previous or future posts to show their deepest gratitude. I guess that's the closest thing we can consider as a reward Cheesy.

But take note, the post must considered having a good quality first, and not given just because you want to pay it forward. Simply because it might look "merit farming" in the eyes of other members.

Keep Merits mean nothing. Because you cannot sell it, and therefore not giving it to others is a waste for them.

Does spending Merits earn you profits? Yes, directly or indirectly.
When you spend Merits, you contribute to improving the quality of posts, and thus more people who know this technique that can lead to price increases or even the continuity of signatures campaigns (if you will participate in one of them.)

There is no reward for you here.
You have merits and opportunity to spend it in 30 days.
If you don't spend it in 30 days you lose your available merits.
So, merits are just a way to show to other members that we are content with their contribution to the forum, nothing more.

Nope. sMerits from "normal" Bitcointalk users doesn't have a sort of expiration date. The 30 days thing only applies to merit sources:

There's only sMerit deadlines for merit sources , but for normal users there currently is not limit/deadline. However, it has been proposed that sMerits should decay to encourage users to spend them, but nothing has been implemented for that yet. Merit sources "pool" of merit refreshes every 30 days, and therefore they are encouraged to use up all of their sMerit within those 30 days.

Thank you for correction.
I remember I read before post from theymos that the same rule  (30 days ) for sMerits will be applied for all members in the forum,  not just merit sources.
Obviously,  theymos still didn't apply this new rule until now.
Sorry for my mistake guys.

Someone will surely find, if you give the abilities that you have "creative" most of the legendary Members or below, they have their own judgment in giving rewards/Merit, to the other members who are the most creative, many members are not specifically told to give Merit.

So, for clarification your intention is: what happens here (merit) someone wants to give a very "possible" reward in influencing the 'creativity' you have.

So, don't hesitate if you have an idea / creative, to share with other members in this forum.

So, merits are just a way to show to other members that we are content with their contribution to the forum, nothing more.

Your idea is not bad and I think getting periods in return will make this forum more constructive and it will be big news for lower rank users.

You get the reward of having a better forum experience. If you reward solely those who actually deserve merits, you're somewhat 'incentivizing' them to post more quality content, hence, we all get to consume more quality content(win-win situation!).

At the same time, you're somewhat discouraging spammers to post more spam as they wouldn't be able to grow their account(s) as accounts need merits to rank up; hence, potentially lower amounts of BS topics and replies.

People are really underestimating how big of a positive factor the merit system is.

Also, we're using this forum free of charge, why not contribute a bit? Right? Especially knowing that a good number of us here earn a bit without anything in exchange for Theymos.

There is no reward apart from that you found the post worthy. Maybe you enjoyed it learned something or just thought it was well constructed. The majority of us can only merit posts with what we earn ourselves.

The system keeps turning because there are merit sources who get their source replenished 30 days after sending each merit.

No God or Kings, only BITCOIN.
Totally, there is nothing but personally if I merit someone that's when if I help them to rank up especially if they are low ranked members. There are merit sources and it's replenished every month for them. Here's the current stats of it https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=sources
