Picking a coin can be tricky. You can go high risk and shoot for the projects that sound like they're offering a great product, but you'd be accepting the fact that what you earn could go up in smoke if you plan to hold. Or you can go with a higher market cap coin. What's your objective - to hold some bags of coins and pray for riches, or to play it safe and continuously earn over time?
Once you can answer that, you should be able to narrow down your searches. And then you can narrow down the miner to use.
Operating system choice comes down to where you feel comfortable. Regardless of the operating system you choose, keeping your rig online 24/7 is important. Downtime == no profit == long time till you recover your investment.
I'm a developer on the project, so naturally, I recommend Foreman for monitoring. It works on both Windows and Linux, it's open-source, and you don't have to worry about giving us control of your rigs - we are minimally invasive while other products want free reign.

Believe me if you are only beginner in mining then use Windows and software like Claymore miner or Phoenix miner for Ethereum. Also try to mine Monero with Claymore or XMRig miners. It is easier to use Windows for mining and it usually gives better hashrate. After some time you will have some experience and you will be able to use Linux for mining.
if you are a small miner i recommend you to use windows for mining, on cryptonight windows is faster anyway. as far as i remenber there is no way to activate workload mode for amd gpus in linux

I did install ubuntu in this computer and am ready to connect GPUs on it? I'm thinking just AMD RX Series, I'm still unsure which coin to mine though.
I was thinking of ETC and XMR. I'm very much inexperience to this which I have been asking lately about mining.
This computer has the newest Ubutnu LTS already, and once I connect the GPU, which software should I install to keep mining? Or do I have to buy the USB whcih as the OS on it to mine?
