I have two 7950 which I use on scrypt mining different altcoins and I can say that they are pretty reliable.
I think he might be talking about scrypt mining...

See my post at https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.4809206 Basically, its not worth it to spend money on GPUs for mining. They just can't pay off their power cost any more. If you want to start a mining operation to actually turn a profit (maybe) you will need to look at buying ASIC hardware.
