I defitinly think i'll build stuff.

I'd like the idea of helping to build things like schools and homes for people who really need it.

I'd code games and build other stuff ( which I'm keeping a secret ) I'm technically already on my way to doing that it's just it's going to take longer and I have to do smaller scale stuff to earn money first.

I hope you are or will be paying income tax on any of these or future earnings  Grin.

I'd do the same thing. After I've seen the world I'd buy a nice sailing boat and sail around the world until I died.
And well, the first of these two thing I'll do a few years from now anyway. Just going to save up some money first! Wink

If I didn't have to work ever again (assuming I saved up enough when I worked), I would:
#1 : Spend time with my family (Priority)
#2 : Continue painting
#3 : Learn a new skill and build something from scratch
#4 : Some Charity work and hopefully help inspire others

I know I will not be bored sitting in front of a TV all day,
will not be reading novels (not a book person),
most likely be in different forums like here...

Come to think of it, building a car out of old spare parts,
or making an music amplifier could be on the top of the list

Arh... this sounded like the "Bucket List"  Shocked

I am off...

Renting out properties is not as easy as it sounds. A friend of the family used to rent houses out, but a couple of people competently trashed some of them or continually broke shit so he had to constantly repair stuff. People don't look after shit when it isn't there's and it also takes a hell of a long time before you start seeing any profit on your investment.

Maybe one day I'd like a holiday home and rent it out to friends and family, but only if I was very well off and money wasn't an issue.

Thats why most places want safety deposits.

Yeah, but a deposit/bond of £1000 on a £150,000 house that is completely trashed doesn't amount to much.

It's all fun and games until somebody loses an eye

Hence the need for passive income or, at the very least, have a job you can do from anywhere. As long as you have a laptop and can find a half decent Internet connection, you're technically okay!

Honestly, I may just buy some properties somewhere and rent them out to tourists and whatnot. AirBnB style.

If you rent out properties you can't just go moseying around the world. As you would have to be continuously on-call to fix problems for the renters. And make sure they don't wreck the place.

You could pay somebody to be your property manager, but that cuts into the profits from renting. You just have to weigh the costs and benefits of freedom to travel vs having a higher income.

You'd also have to check up on the property manager to see their job is done properly and they do not scam you (e.g. by withholding money for repairs that weren't made). Unless he or she is someone you really trust.

But you could do that sort of checking up by talking with tenants when you are back in town (or by calling them), so that is just part of paying for a manager, it does not keep you from travelling.

Problem is that there are notenough opportunities for income if you are constantly on the move.

Me, I would travel the world and make it a life goal to visit every single country. I would relax every day and try out all the different cuisine every country has to offer. I would spend my days backpacking across the country-side interacting with the locals. That'd be my dream "job". What about yours?

You can still do that without lots of money. There are people who travel the world without spending much money. Google "traveling the world on a low budget".

Hell, if you're an average American paying rent, traveling to some parts of the world would probably end up having a lower cost-per-day for you, including airfare.

Same is true for people in the EU. Where I live (Netherlands) the lowest rent you can find is at least twice as high as what an average worker in a third world country makes per month. And then you haven't yet paid for taxes (there are many of them), utilities, medical insurance and not to mention food and clothing. Sad

Lazy people are generally not happy, but their fate is still up to them.

But uneducated people are helpless, especially if they are immigrants who were not originally educated in the first place. Where iused to work, a lot of the older asian patients expected shit for free via medicare, even though have not really done shit to contribute to society.

Work.  Nobody can relax forever; to say you would is akin to saying you'd drink the ocean because you're thirsty Tongue

there are lots of peole who just relax, all day. i don't think i could handle it myself. but at the same time, you don't want to work too hard if you don't need to.

Yeah, I don't think this guy knows what he's talking about. You should emigrate to the UK and relax all day everyday on benefits. Bring all your friends and family too!

There is no one who has no desire, no skill, no hobby, no interests, makes no progress, and still leads a happy, fulfilled life.  Anyone who does this is very depressed and unhealthy and would, upon overcoming whatever it is holding them back, begin to work again. It's extremely shortsighted to believe people on welfare, whom I assume you allude to, enjoy being leeches; there is nothing fulfilling about this position in life, and no man aspires to be there.

I'm currently on these benefits after being made redundant so I'm well aware of both sides of the spectrum. There are plenty of people who game the system their entire life and are happy and in some cases even proud to do so, but there are also many who are not proud to be receiving hand outs or free money. Whether they are fulfilled or truly happy or not I do not know.

I think most people would travel. What else is there to do?
There's a traditional saying that for the most satisfying and happiest life every person should "plant a tree, build a house, raise a child, and write a book".

Travel is great, and I doubt I will ever grow tired of it, but I think my life would feel rather empty if I did nothing except travel for decade after decade.

I don't know about a house, but I would definitely have the motivation and time to write a book. I could even continue and finish my two current screenplays!

What you working on? I'm writing (or trying to) write a sitcom with my mate and also a sketch show. The sketch show will be eponymous so keep an eye out for it in the future  Grin.

One script is being co-written with a director friend of mine. It'll be a coming of age drama with existentialist themes. But we'll see where it goes...

As for the second one, it's a heist film that I began developing when I was walking around a high-end diamond store and figured out a realistic way (at least in my mind, though for sure I've skipped over details) to steal from it. It'd be a bit like Heat in terms of planning, but with no ensuing gun fight with the police.

I've only written one other script over the years and the credit is being shared with someone else even though I did most of the actual writing. It's being sloooooowly developed, though it'll probably never see the light of day. Ah, well.

man, i've had some ideas on writing a tv script.. it'd be an adult-themed dark comedy about a self-aware drunken dwarf, who knows he's being stereotyped as a dwarf.. but his bad luck pisses him off, and he just gives in to the stereotype and gets drunk in a dinosaur suit.

Haha tell me more. I love dark/black comedy as my humour is very much so.

i haven't thought about it much lately, but i was thinking towards the end of the first season, he's down on his luck so he says "fuck it." he goes to a liquor store, in a dinosaur suit, buys a 40 oz and chugs it down outside. a young kid walks by, and then he says "go take a fucking picture, kid" and continues chugging away.

then season 2, he gets a porn gig; which is better than being in a dinosaur suit for kids events. he's excited about it, and his talent agent, danny devito (who is neither a midget nor a normal sized man) finds him a porn gig.. he gets excited about it, until he shows up on the shoot.. it ends up being a snow white and the 7 dwarfs gang-bang style scene, and he now wants out.

i think that guy from game of thrones is perfect for a role like that.. he seems like a normal guy stuck in a dwarf's body. i think he can do the asshole role pretty well too. was thinking about having his character becoming the eureka idea for george marin's tyrion character too  Cheesy

i've heard of people all over the world, living in the cheap areas, and not having returned to their home countries for 5+ years... especially in places like thailand.

thailand is fools gold.. so many guys think it's utopia there, but for me at least, i'd get sick of the lifestyle. the foreigners there just chill and do nothing, living on a cheap budget.. pussy is cheap and almost free (if you are a whitey).

Some people just like that lazy lifestyle. A lot of lonely westerners go there after they quit the ratrace and shack up with a Thai woman who at least pretends to care about them as long as they're paying their bills. At least the weather's nice and you can afford to live like a king over there on your money.

If I didn't have to work anymore, I would consider running for public office. Start with the state legislature, try to make our state more libertarian. If I decided I like it then I would move on to the national government and try to take Dave Camp's seat (he will retire eventually, or I might have to defeat him in the primary if my plan happens faster than he wants to retire), I would join with people like Justin Amash and Rand Paul to balance the budget and limit the scope of our government.

Assuming that fails, I would spend a lot of time reading. I would also do some painting, some writing of novels. I would spend time paddling in my kayak and hiking in the woods around here. I would like to get a powered paraglider, on nice days that would be fun to fly around.

I have not decided if I would continue living here in Michigan or move somewhere warmer with lower taxes. Hmm...

Sit on my fat ass and watch TV while eating ice cream out of the carton with the back of a sharpie that I "sanatized" with a lighter.

I don't know what the end of that means.

I think there's two options people choose:

1) Travel the world
2) Sit at home infront of the TV and get fat.

Or we can mix both and be like like the type of traveler who takes an all-inclusive some place warm and ends up spending more than 25% of their time either in their room watching TV or somewhere in the resort watching a movie.

It was funny to see the amount of Westerners just watching movies on the beach or in restaurants in Thailand. You're traveling to get away from that! Or at least I am...

Here in the UK plebs go on holiday to typical tourist traps in Spain etc and spend all their time hunting down British themed bars and eating full cooked English breakfasts. Then they come back home and moan about all the foreigners coming over and 'stealing their culture'. Makes me laugh.

Well you have to do something otherwise you'd go insane or become a total depressed jerk.  Travel is a good one, or volunteer doing something I actually liked, helping people in some way less fortunate than I am.   You could do a lot of fun stuff too, play some online video games, etc. and become really good.

Sit on my fat ass and watch TV while eating ice cream out of the carton with the back of a sharpie that I "sanatized" with a lighter.

I don't know what the end of that means.

I think there's two options people choose:

1) Travel the world
2) Sit at home infront of the TV and get fat.

I think most people would travel. What else is there to do?

I would definitely travel as well (I don't know about backpacking, though) but I'd probably settle on certain places I really liked so I could write.

Just for fun.

It's hard to write for fun with all of life's current intricacies, which would become much easier to deal with if I didn't have a financial burden linked to work.

i would have said the same thing, and i am not 20-30 (though close enough). i'd like to see at least half of the world. not the touristy bullshit, but actually learning how the locals live. i like getting my mind blown.

Licking my boob since 1970
Me, I would travel the world and make it a life goal to visit every single country. I would relax every day and try out all the different cuisine every country has to offer. I would spend my days backpacking across the country-side interacting with the locals. That'd be my dream "job". What about yours?

I'd guess your age at 20-30.  Am I right?   Wink

Yes, haha. Still at that part of life. I can dream right? Smiley

Yes you can.   Smiley

I guessed your age because of the simple term "backpacking".    Cheesy
