Applications that use CounterParty have to come first and this will in turn drive user adoption.

This was just recently released: https://xbet.io/
And this is still yet to be finalized: http://ltbcoin.com/

I can't say that I have any idea what the actual value of XCP will or should be, but use cases have only just begun, IMO.

Its good to know that its being put to use in real-world application. I might have to look into some of those World Cup lines.

And in all likelihood I won't actually develop Bitcoin Fantasy Football but its coming either way.

I have a similar question, but its more like, "Why isn't Counterparty enjoying the popularity and/or success of other 2nd gen, experimental feature-filled cryptos?"

This was the first thread that came up in Google search, so I figured I'd just add to it instead of make a new one.

I am specifically attracted to Counterparty's bet and dividend features. Not to forget you can create and list assets for a fraction of the cost of NXT.

It seems like XCP would be the appropriate platform to launch my "Bitcoin Fantasy Football" idea. I want to be able to integrate game wagering and player markets (trade or sell your unused players) on top of the standard Fantasy Football protocol.

Could someone summarise exactly where Counterparty coin went wrong?

With a vague question like that, I wouldn't expect much of a response. If you're asking about price speculation then ask why many coins are down from their all time highs. If you're asking about some technical problem, then I'm unaware of what you're referring to - XCP works fine. Among other things, LTBCoin is just about to launch on top of the CounterParty protocol - something I'm plenty excited about.
