I'm looking for an SSD and they're pretty expensive compared to an external hard drive (for obvious reasons. No moving parts. Way more reliable).

I'm looking for an external SSD and was hoping to buy a used one for a better price. I'm thinking 1TB would be more than enough, maybe even half that size. What website would you suggest and is it safe to buy used? As in, if I'm using it for 'Bitcoin stuff' (I know, very specific) am I safe to format it and we're good to go or should I take other precautions as well?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I'm looking to purchase with Bitcoins (just in case there was any confusion).

Edit2: Shipping within/to Canada

i don't think that you should ever buy used ssd or hdd,  i just wouldn't feel safe with that...

and  i think you could get one from amazon, if you want to pay with bitcoins, you can use purse.io to get it

I'll just lock this to prevent useless spam...

I'll just keep looking for online stores for accept bitcoins. We'll see what I can find that doesn't cost me an arm and a leg.

I do the same, but instead I buy a new HDD every few years and back it up to the new one. I suppose it works out about $10 per year. I do have some pretty ancient HDDs, one's about 17 years old and it's fine, but I wouldn't be trusting precious stuff to just one especially when storage is so cheap and easily transferred. You can clone the whole thing in less than an hour or two.

Ya, I already have a 3TB HDD but there's just everything on it. I'm looking for something where I can completely rely on it got extremely important file etc.

You don't seem to see many external SSDs for sale, let alone used ones. I'd say that reliability vs an HDD is moot. And external disks tend to lead easier lives in general than internal ones. When you throw in that fact that a 1tb HDD is about 1/6th of the cost of the equivalent SSD it would sway me towards old school.

Would you be using it for the long term parking of data or would you constantly be writing new data to it? Either way I wouldn't be betting my data on something used.

I'm looking for something that will last 'forever' (at least half of my lifetime) and can store a lot of pictures, videos etc. Mostly personal things so yes I'd say I'll always be adding to it but never removing everything and writing back and forth. I'd have to assume I won't be buying something used because it's impossible to find when looking to purchase with Bitcoins so I'd end up paying the same price as new anyways.

I had been looking on Newegg but they seem to be pretty expensive. I guess I'll most likely end up buying one from them but probably only a 500GB or 750GB SSD. Anyone know of another website that has cheaper prices?

Metawin.com - Truly the best casino ever
Best and reputable website to buy a new SSD is newegg.com, but if you want to buy used or also new, than choose right seller on ebay.com

oh, if you want to purchase with bitcoins, than newegg is best for you, because they accept bitcoin payment. As I know they ship in canada but if they won't, than you can use a parcel reciever company, that ships from usa to canada.

Buying an SSD used is fine - don't worry about it, people do it all the time, and SSDs usually have pretty high limits on maximum read/writes before they give up, normally many more than you or any other person will ever need. Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQjc-XW0G7Y

As for where to buy with bitcoins, used I'm not sure but new I know scan.co.uk take bitcoins in the UK at least, can't really help you in the US or wherever but I know that a lot of PC parts places in particular take bitcoins.

You may go with newegg, I don't know what do you mean bitocoin stuff but if these are huge data then go for 1TB, but here I found a 500GB $170 new http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147512 . Or if you want to buy an used one then try wirex virtual bitcoin card and purchase anywhere like a normal credit card.

Never ever buy harddrives of any kind used. Thing with moving parts you dont want. I know  know an ssd has no moving parts bit it's a sensitive piece of hardware. Also a 1tb is big bucks like we talking $500 and up.
