I use www.coinbase.com as well. Although buying coins seems to take a lot longer than selling them. Roughly 6 business days to get coins into my account, but they'll take them from me quickly!

My coins never came after 6 days of waiting.  they just canceled the transaction with no explanation.

Given that

The answer is going to depend on your own particular circumstances.  Nobody can answer that for you without knowing everything about every transaction you are going to attempt.

That is certainly true.

Perhaps my question should have been "Which BTC to fiat currency exchange and transfer methods do experienced people prefer and why?" since my intention is to benefit from the experience of others, to the extent that they are willing to share their knowledge freely.

Given my circumstances (newbie miner, in the US, without a need to avoid AML regs), Coinbase looks like a good option at 1% plus 0.15 USD per transaction, even with their $100 per day limit. Thanks for the suggestion mjc, SneakyNinjA, and gfuld.

Exactly. What are the answers to those questions? My desire to find out was why I wrote the OP.

fastcash4bitcoins has an implicit fee of 2.8%. How does that compare to the explicit transaction fees and transfer fees at MtGox and the other exchanges?

What is the cheapest of the various payment options, to get to USD in a bank account? Presumably ACH, but that requires sharing information I may not want to share. What's next? Dwolla, maybe?

The answer is going to depend on your own particular circumstances.  Nobody can answer that for you without knowing everything about every transaction you are going to attempt.

As an example:

Imagine service A has a flat $15 fee and service B has a 5% fee.

If you want to transfer $150, you'd be looking at 10% fee with service A and would be better off paying 5% with service B ($7.50)
If you want to transfer $500, you'd be looking at 3% fee with service A and would be worse off paying 5% with service B ($25)

To answer your question I'd need to know:

  • How much BTC are you exchanging?
  • What payment methods are acceptable to you?
  • How much of a hurry are you in to be able to spend your money after the currency exchange is complete?
  • Are there any exchanges or services you refuse to use (perhaps for security or philosophical reasons)?
  • Do you have any privacy requirements?
  • Does your bank charge you any fees for ACH, wire transfer, etc?
  • How much risk are you willing to accept of your funds being lost or stolen?

Once I had all those answers, then next question I'd have is, how much money are you going to pay me to research every possibility and determine for you what the absolute best option is?

Consider coinbase if you are looking for payout to a US bank account.  Their fee is 1% off of the current market quote (basically Mt. Gox) the quote even updates if you take a long time to complete checkout.

The fees are low and the transactions are fast.  I'm seeing money in my account in about 48 hours (2 Business days)  They claim 4 Business days.

The 1% transaction fee looks good. How does their bid compare to other exchanges?

I just took a look and at the moment MtGox has a bid of 36.39930 and fastcash4bitcoins is quoting 35.28.

That works out to be a 2.83% fee on the MtGox rate. What fees will you pay on the exchange at MtGox?  What fees will you pay to transfer your money out of MtGox?

If you perform the trade at MtGox, how soon will you have your cash in hand (on in your bank account)?  Can you even get your cash from MtGox if you aren't verified?

Fastcash4bitcoins offers 7 payment methods:
  • ACH (Direct Deposit)
  • Bank Wires
  • PayPal, Dwolla
  • Company Check
  • Silver Bullion
  • Gold Bullion

How many of these options are available from MtGox?

fastcash4bitcoin.com has a bid that's almost a full dollar less than MtGox. That seems like a hefty hidden fee. What is the benefit of using your service over directly transacting at MtGox?

Without taking into account currency speculation opportunity costs, how can someone minimize the various transaction and withdrawal fees to go from mined BTCs to USD in spendable form?
