I seem to have a lot of confirmations that take almost a week or more some times. I used to say "I don't care how long it takes, I'll just do the cheap route and wait the 2-24 hours or whatever" but now waiting means weeks. I hope something is done about this personally.

Currently I have waited 3 hour Undecided

The worst longest time I have waited for 1 confirmation was when I sent from my wallet to a exchange and it took more then 2 weeks to confirm.
I was so nervous and used different btc accelerators and contacted the exchange support.  I learned my lesson after this incident.
Im a kind of person who doesnt really want to wait thats why i do check out mempool.space and when i do saw what are the current fees on specific prioritization then im basing
on the fee that im using but those are subject to change which we know that network could clogged even more which would result into further expensive fees.

As for the question on whats the longest time that ive been waiting for some transaction then it do took 1-2 days. Getting broadcasted into the network and waiting
for 1 confirmation is really a stressful one.  Cheesy

So far, I've waited 4 days for my transaction to get confirmed. Someone sent me that with terribly low transaction fee. I feel like I gonna miss the all time high before I receive the amount. Luckily, the high price last longer than I expected. During high periods, its really hard to make transaction. But still efficient and better than anyway of transaction. Worth it since its Cheaper than banks transaction fee.

The max I have waited was for 5 days for an amount of 0.0021 satoshi. Since nowadays there have been too many issues popping up related to Bitcoin confirmation. I would just like to advise that wait till the weekend if your transaction does not confirm on weekdays.

For me, there have been 2 or 3 confirmation issues since November this year and now I only do transfers on weekends because they get confirmed easily at a cheap price in satoshi.

The wait is simply due to 2 things, one of which is your own choice:

1) Your fee you put into your transactions.

2) How full the mempool is.

When there are lots of transactions (i.e. mempool is always more than a block) then if you skimp on fees, it may take you a long time to get your transaction confirmed.

If you watch the size of blocks, you will see that it has periods of very full and periods of not completely full.
If you put up a transaction when blocks are not completely full, then you are more likely to have it confirmed faster.
If you put up a transaction with low fees when the blocks are always full, then expect to wait.

FYI average block time is 10 minutes - not sure why anyone would bother getting a list of block times over history.
However, the timestamp in a block is NOT when the block was found, it is usually when the work was sent to the miner that found the block some time after that timestamp (usually within 30 seconds) ... but not always.

I've waited nearly a day when I sent without a reasonable fee (or when someone sent to me without a fee).
Just waiting for 3 hours makes us uncertain, especially waiting for 1 week. because waiting is not good and is very hated by people☺

Just few days ago I waited for more than 1 hour for my transaction to go through, what is even surprising is that I use a high gas fee - about $2+ eth for transaction fee so my transaction will be confirmed quickly but unfortunately for me my network went off in the middle of processing, I don't know if this has something to do with the transaction delay but it just took longer than necessary to confirm.

I don't know how long I waited at that time, at least 2-3 days forgot the exact time, it was just an experience in the past because there was a problem something like the transaction was stuck. But as far as I remember I didn't do any additional fees for the transaction finally confirmed, at least I just made a new transaction to solve the problem because I was annoyed with a long wait, after that incident I no longer have the same problem until now.

I have waited for 48hrs, that's been a while when there was a huge confirmation issues. That's when I researched and saw that you could accelerate a Bitcoin transaction using viabtc especially if your transaction fee is small.

Yeah... there are transaction accelerators, and obviously Viabtc is perhaps the most popular one. But I have a feeling that their fee is a bit on the higher side. I used their service only once, and I had to make a payment of around $30. I was quite desperate, as one of my urgent payments was stuck due to low fees. At the same time, other users were paying $5 as the transaction fee in Blockchain and getting instant confirmation. So they are charging manytimes the actual fee. But in the end, we have few other options.

A few weeks ago there was a large size of the memory pool, the day before that I sent a transaction with the optimal size of the transaction fee, and after sending all the values increased and my transaction ended up at the end of the list. Thus, the transaction was stuck in the transaction queue for several weeks, and then I don’t know what happened to it, since I didn’t check its status anymore, because I sent a new one with a higher fee.

Probably 1-3 Hours like yourself

I found this searching around google, some people claim Satoshi waited 130 Hours after mining Genesis to the first Block, however this I beleive is untrue, its more likely he was fixing issues with the code during this time and it did not actually take him 130 hours.

-----

Here's a complete list of the differences between blocks, sorted by difference: http://paste.ubuntu.com/6780012/
And here's a BASH script used to get a list of blocks and a difference between their timestamps (requires jq):
Code:
#!/bin/bash

COUNT=$(bitcoind getblockcount)
PREVTIME=0

for (( i=0; i<=$COUNT; i++ ))
do
    HASH=$(bitcoind getblockhash $i)
    TIME=$(bitcoind getblock $HASH|jq ".time")

    if (( "$i" > 0 )); then
        echo "$(expr $i - 1)-$i     $(expr $TIME - $PREVTIME)"

        #progress display
        if (( $(($i % $(($COUNT / 100)))) == 0)); then
            echo "$i*100/$COUNT"|bc|tr '\n' '%' 1>&2
            echo "" 1>&2
        fi
    fi

    PREVTIME=$TIME
done

Run it like this: bash blocktime.sh|sort -n -k2. Takes a while to run (circa three hours on my system).

The longest was 3 or 4 days back in 2018 when fees exploded. I send a decent fee, but the transaction was heavy, with many inputs, which decreased its priorities. A day later the average fee doubled and my transaction still wasn't confirmed. 2 days later I got worried and discovered a free tx accelerator provided by one of the pools. I had to try many times until my tx got accepted because there was so many requests, you literally had to click 1s after it opened for new requests to make it. Fun times  Roll Eyes

I've waited for weeks but nothing happens and I just realized that I just got scammed for a fake investment website lol. The longest confirmed confirmation that I have is just only a half hour when I deposit a small amount of bitcoin in the yobit platform.

I just want to know what confirmation have you experienced that took for 3 hours? I just curious about it so I could prevent having this in the future.

What coins are you waiting for confirmation, which can be up to 3 hours? According to my experience, it usually takes about 1 to 2 hours at the most for bitcoin transactions, while for Ethereum a maximum of 30 minutes, but that depends on the gas fee used. However, if the transaction is busy on the block it will take up to several days.

IIRC I sent a transaction with 0 fee when such were getting confirmed.

What happened exactly?
Till I sent it, everything was working fine. Suddenly, mempool started to clog and there came an extreme tsunami of transactions which blocked the network till 10 sats/byte area. Then it took itself above to over 50 sats/ byte area and then kept sitting there for a 3 days. I just waited for it to confirm and it confirmed in 5-6 days to be exact. It didn't even get rejected or reversed as the value was so less so it didn't bother much to me. But you should have RBF enabled in your transaction as well as have some change available if your fee level gets under the normal level for getting faster confirmations.

I don't remember exactly, but I believe that my longest wait lasted a week or so. This happened sometime in 2017, when I was moving coins from one of my wallets to another. Since I control both the wallets, I put a very low transaction fee (around 2 Sat/Byte). But the transaction took a long time to get confirmed and eventually I had to wait for around 6-7 days.

I have waited for over 24hrs in the year 2017 during the high cost of transactions and I am sending just a peanut 0.0015, it just remains unconfirmed and I forget about it until it was later sent. Two things here, mono transaction and a low fee.

I think 5 or 6 hrs from my experience. The USD equivalent of fee that time is very high but I really need to withdraw so I set the fee to lowest. I thought it won't be longer than 2hrs since I've been doing it before but the blockchain that time has a huge number of transactions ongoing.

A few months back, I had to wait for 3 days to get a single confirmation. I was using the Blockchain.com wallet and I put the default fee which was suggested by them. But as soon as I made the transaction, the Mempool size started increasing. The transaction got stuck, and I was left frustrated and angry. I felt bad, because I had put the default fee rather than my own customized fee. Anyway, in the end it got confirmed after three days of wait.

I guess it was 12 hours if I remember it correctly. I was panicking way back then because I thought I did something wrong like I sent it to a wrong address like a not Bitcoin address because I hassle sometimes. But luckily after I woke the next morning, I already received it in my Bitcoin wallet.

Here are some reasons why your transaction gets delayed

I am not sure anybody can bit me. It was more than two weeks. Finally I executed a "child pays for parent" transaction that covered the cost of the new transaction and paid additional fee on behalf of the parent, to have the original (parent) confirmed sooner. It costed me 40 USD total, but it was worth it, the confirmation finally arrived after a block or two...

I have the same problem. I'm waiting for confirmation of payment 2 days. I don't know how to send the payment but when I send my payments are never delayed more than 30 minutes. I think that it also depends on the network load but also by the way sent. I hope that someday this problem will be solved.

I hope so too.

For me it has been one week and a half and still counting. I tried to have a look at BTC transaction accelerator and their quote was 102 USD which is repelling (!). The network load currently is 220k so probably my tx will not be confirmed in another week or two ...

Actually I am starting to feel helpless and I am starting to understand the BTH guys

Make sure you leave your wallet opened until you get your first confirmation.
Whether you leave your wallet open or not makes no difference for the confirmation time of your transaction. Once you broadcasted it, it's distributed throughout the network in seconds, and from then on it's just waiting until a miner includes it in a block. This happens completely independent from your wallet.

I would somewhat doubt this unless you very rarely ever send any transactions. Although the average time between blocks it targeted to be 10 minutes, it is not uncommon to have even an hour between blocks and much more commonly for it to be 30 minutes between individual blocks. Even if you had all of your transactions included in exactly the next block that was found after it was transmitted to the network, it would still be expected that you need to wait more then 15 minutes to have a tx confirm at least one time

Though it is true i do very less transaction , i do them each week and i never get that problem and sometimes when i really need to get it fast ,  i just increase the fee a little and my transaction is accepted fast
Though most of the times for simple transaction i pay the same fee i.e. 0.0001 btc and i get confirmation quite fast in 10-15 minutes

No I dont escrow anymore.
Currently I have waited 3 hour Undecided

7 or 8 days, but I didnt pay a fee, the TX never confirmed I had to doublespend it.
If you had to wait that long then the tx should have fallen out of most nodes' mempool well before that time.

In the past no fee tx's of mine has fallen out of most nodes' mempool after several blocks (maybe 10-20 or so) that were found  after I initially broadcast the tx but did not include my tx in their block. I had to use my own node to manually push it back onto the network and wait a total of ~18 hours for it to eventually confirm

I did not manually rebroadcast it, but AFAIK bitcoin core/qt does so anyway. It wasnt important anyway. I just wanted to see if I could fuse several small inputs into bigger ones without a fee. There was a post here by someone with ... I dont remember the actual numbers, but something like 1.X BTC from faucets and most inputs very little. IIRC it was several 10k of inputs.

Ok, yes, when depositing bitcoins to an exchange, it matters. How often do you do this, especially in circumstances where you're in a hurry? Maybe panic selling isn't a good idea to begin with.

Actually would be hard to say so . Everytime, I become conscious about the large delay, its usually when depositing to an exchange or a gambling site or a poker site where I need few confirmations. Other times, when I am not in a hurry, I don't bother checking  , so it is true it doesn't apply then.

In every day practice, I pretty much NEVER wait for confirmations.

I don't care how fast it confirms. I send my payments, and that's it.

Same with receiving. I see an incoming transaction, and from that point I already know 99.9999% sure it's going to be confirmed, whether be it in a few minutes, or maybe in a few hours if the fee was very low or whatever. I don't care, I'll receive the money either way.

For almost ALL practical situations involving Bitcoin payments, the confirmation time actually doesn't matter.

I have seen threads where people say that confirmation times don't matter, but for some reasons like deposits to service sites/Exchanges/ Gambling sites, the confirmation time do matter. Your deposit only gets confirmed after 2-3 confirmations.

On average it should take about 10 min to mine a new block (i.e to get one confirmation) but when you're unlucky (as I was yesterday)
you can find yourself in more than one hour gap between blocks  Angry
See
block 343200 (Main Chain)    2015-02-12 23:04:18
and next one
block 343201 (Main Chain)    2015-02-13 00:08:00

And even your fees wouldn't speed that up.

I once waited 12 hours but it was fee related. Does that count? Tongue

50 minutes for me , but that is just because I use it so much and therefore increase the probability that I see a long confirmation time. Most confirmations are 7-12 minutes.

It's a Poisson process, with a mean of 10 minutes. So...

What is the probability that the next block will be found within 10 minutes from now?
63.212%

Or within 1 minute?
9.516%

Or 10 seconds?
1.653%

Or 1 second?
0.167%

Around 1.5 hours. And the delay almost always happens, when I need it the quickest :/

The same the only times it has which is only a few times but that was the times i really needed it to confirm in 15 - 30 mins max but no aha

Can be hours and hours without fee?

Probably 1-3 Hours like yourself

I found this searching around google, some people claim Satoshi waited 130 Hours after mining Genesis to the first Block, however this I beleive is untrue, its more likely he was fixing issues with the code during this time and it did not actually take him 130 hours.

Here's a complete list of the differences between blocks, sorted by difference: http://paste.ubuntu.com/6780012/
And here's a BASH script used to get a list of blocks and a difference between their timestamps (requires jq):
Code:
#!/bin/bash

COUNT=$(bitcoind getblockcount)
PREVTIME=0

for (( i=0; i<=$COUNT; i++ ))
do
    HASH=$(bitcoind getblockhash $i)
    TIME=$(bitcoind getblock $HASH|jq ".time")

    if (( "$i" > 0 )); then
        echo "$(expr $i - 1)-$i     $(expr $TIME - $PREVTIME)"

        #progress display
        if (( $(($i % $(($COUNT / 100)))) == 0)); then
            echo "$i*100/$COUNT"|bc|tr '\n' '%' 1>&2
            echo "" 1>&2
        fi
    fi

    PREVTIME=$TIME
done

Run it like this: bash blocktime.sh|sort -n -k2. Takes a while to run (circa three hours on my system).
