I use the blockchain.info wallet as my "checking account", which I use for small purchases and transfers to friends to pay for lunch, etc. Its nice having an app on my phone that lets me send up to a couple hundred dollars worth of BTC in minutes, anywhere I have an internet connection. Whenever my balance gets too large (mining earnings go into this account), I send a chunk to my "savings" accounts.

I keep the majority of my coins in cold storage (with Armory and an offline computer used only for Bitcoin transaction signing). Also keep some of my coins on MtGox (with yubikey protection).

I used MyBitcoin and lost big time.

Now I keep most of them in cold storage, and a little carrying cash on my phone (BitcoinSpinner).

I like online wallets for the waves of pleasure it brings me to read another "I put all my lifesavings into this obscure Russian wallet site and now they are all gone. How could this possibly happen?"

I've used one to view received transactions and check verification.  And sometimes just looking to see how many coins I have. But there is no "need".

When have you ever used a online wallet and why?
