this website is very different from the others and this is clear if we can examine it, no excuse if on Reddit or other web/social media we can also get a discussion about bitcoin; then we likened the website to another website... come on friends.... try to think and be more mature so that we can know and understand better

Given the amount of censorship on this site, and given that the gods are bitcoin cultists, if not just plain nutz and defensive, I would say that essentially this site is a circle-jerk, and they don't tolerate ppl who don't provide positive feedback of the mother shit-coin btc.

Matic made ANN thread, then one more post month after and never really came back, and it's been almost 2 years now. Cosmos, Tron and other few projects you mentioned are also not really new and are at least few years old. About decentralized VPN provider, you maybe mean Mysterium? At least that's the decentralized VPN provider that I heard of. So yeah, those are not exactly new projects at all, which I had in mind when I said that bitcointalk is not really place anymore to advertise altcoins. This can also be seen through decrease in post count, which was at its peak during last altcoin season.

But generally, I don't think that top altcoin projects even consider advertising here, as even if they do bounty campaign, I doubt that they will have much effect; if they decide to start signature campaign and pay in their tokens they will get bunch of shitposters, and if they create ANN thread it will be drowned in the pile of shitcoin threads.

To answer the OP, this forum will always have historic significance as it was created by Satoshi himself and despite all these new means of communication, will always be relevant when it comes to discussions about anything bitcoin related. After all, that's why this forum is created for.

I understand what you guys are saying, but I wasn't talking about bottom of the barrel altcoins (shitcoins), Jesus Coins, and those CumSwap platforms.

But Matic Network advertised on Bitcointalk for example. Solana has a short ANN thread created back in February. Not sure if the OP is a team member or just a supporter of the project. I think Tron advertised on the forum as well, but I could be wrong about that.

Cosmos (ATOM) has its ANN thread on Bitcointalk. Havven, now rebranded to Synthetix announced its ICO and held a bounty campaign here. I remember NEXO as well. There was a decentralized VPN provider, but I forgot their name. Etc., etc.

Whether or not these are considered shitcoins or not, is a different topic of discussion. But Rikafip is also right when he says that Bitcointalk doesn't have such an importance anymore as it did in the past. I don't follow the altcoin scene as I did many years ago, but I also remember seeing Avalanche and we can't forget about Grin either.

You are absolutely right here bitcointalk will be last option for shitcoins to come here and announce their shitty projects. Reason is very simple.. it's a forum not a twitter or facebook where you can pay to get likes and retweets... I believe we still have healthy and very capable members which can expose such scammers within minutes. This is the major reason they won't touch bitcointalk, otherwise this is still best place for genuine, real and meaningful projects.

I remember coinmarketcap use to have a dedicated link for bitcointalk.org which is now under community and mixed with reddit and twitter etc links.

No, that is not true. Many have, but certainly not 100% of the developers. If you take a look at this thread, you would see that many bitcoin developers use IRC and mailing lists to communicate with each other. GitHub is also high on the agenda for them.

When it comes to altcoin projects, Bitcointalk is a great place to advertise those especially if the company has plans to run ICO and similar advertising campaigns. But I have come across news headlines mentioning various projects who have never done any advertising on Bitcointalk. For that, they can use Reddit, YouTube, Twitter, Discord, and other social media.

I like to think of this forum as a sort of safe haven to discussion about anything related to cryptocurrencies. Where freedom of speech is usually much better than alternatives, doesn't have a broken popularity voting system, and doesn't have over zealous rules. Plus, is probably one of the only places which actually promotes substantial discussion, rather than the social media type replies the modern world is going towards.

Also, how nice is it to have a place which isn't littered with memes? Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a meme or a funny image from time to time, however constantly recycled memes are tedious, and just destroys actual discussion.

Exactly, and this is my biggest issue with Reddit. Reddit can be fantastic to read sometimes, but its so easily manipulated, you wouldn't want to read topics which are particularly sensitive or important, due to the fact that anyone with a motive could easily impose their views on it, simply by creating a massive farm of accounts to down vote content they disagree with.

If you are into politics, which I'll be honest I don't tend to stop by the politic sub reddit, its likely full of this sort of behaviour.

Your are absolutely right... in fact his question was pretty genuine. If I put my self in place of him new to Bitcoin and crypto market I would find this forum pretty boring and dry. This is natural for any new comer when they are coming from a happening places like Twitter or Reddit this forum doesn’t have any attraction at first.

It takes some time to get used to it and understand the purpose of this forum. We should be more friendly and encouraging to new comers special to those who are asking questions.

It did look the same, but there was no merit, feedback, or trust network. I'm with you on the nostalgia of this forum. I will be sad if this doesn't continue to live on. I'd personally like to see this forum forked even if the 'old' forum was given some new url. It would be great if this place could go back to before the drama and signature campaigns. Maybe remove all the additions since satoshi left and get back to what made this place great (actual enforcement of rules by people who care) while all the signature spammers, merit whores, and trust nazis could be free to move to the new forum.

And this forum site was the only way to narketing bitcoin when bitcoin launches and also to connect others for discussed about bitcoin. So the simple thing is this site is a bitcoin dedicated site. And that's the main difference (I think) between Reddit and bitcointalk--the latter was around from the beginning and was created exclusively to discuss bitcoin. There's a rich history to this forum, whereas Reddit is a discussion forum for many different topics, and personally I can't stand that site.

It really depends on the subreddit you browse. Some are full of hostile posts similar to the ones you quoted (*cough* r/btc *cough*).

I had originally thought this was a place for Bitcoin developers to come together to build on the Bitcoin blockchain. Then I watched it evolve into a place where users could find crypto services and speak with the developers directly to give them ideas or receive guidance. Now it's more of a what you make of it website. Some people come here to spam for income, chat about BTC, find services, get help, trade goods, or just plain take out their aggression on strangers on the internet. Basically, you can get whatever you want from this website, but with more clutter you may have to dig a little deeper to find what you're searching for.

As for reddit, I've never see any developers there building anything for BTC. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough, but that seems like a place to just spread BTC news, not actively engage in using or developing BTC infrastructure with other members.

Hello kid, before you talk further about this forum and compare Bitcoin on social media reddit, that is something that is less professional and not good for yourself

Jesus Christ. He's a new user asking a simple question. What's with all the hostility? No wonder Reddit is his chosen platform if this is how we treat newbies looking to learn.

My main issue with Reddit is it is an echo chamber. The upvote/downvote system is supposed to be used on the basis of what constitutes a valuable post, but instead is used on the basis of "I agree/like this" or "I disagree/don't like this/don't understand this". Post a chart with colorful lines talking about going to the moon and you'll be boosted to the front page in no time. Post an in depth evaluation or criticism about some piece of the technology and you'll either be ignored or downvoted. Go to the front page of some crypto subreddit right now and I guarantee the top posts will be some memes about how we are all going to be rich and/or laughing at boomers or "non believers", but you'll have to dig deep to find some meaningful discussion about Lightning or Taproot.

Hello kid, before you talk further about this forum and compare Bitcoin on social media reddit, that is something that is less professional and not good for yourself, where we are here discussing Bitcoin since 2009 directly with the Bitcointalk forum owner and creator of Bitcoin.

Based on the information here, social media reddit knows and can talk about Bitcoin, if this forum does not exist or Bitcoin, maybe reddit can only talk about cosmetics, widows, etc., they don't know about Bitcoin, if the Bitcointalk forum was not created by satoshi.

So son, the difference is of course 100% much different between reddit and the Bitcointalk forum, Sit and watch / read maybe a week or two, later you will feel the difference between this forum and other social media like reddit.

Reddit is another platform on which many projects have their own topics and communities.

The forum (bitcointalk.org) is a forum for Bitcoin discussions initially and for others (discussions about altcoins and other things are derivatives of time). Owners or core admins of the forum have full control on its database. It is different than on Reddit and you can not ask the core admin (theymos) to shut down the forum and totally depends on Reddit database, rules, policies for Bitcoin discussions.

Though Reddit is superior in other things, having an actual classic forum style community has it's own advantages as well. On the top of my head:

1. Trust ratings (and just software modifications in general)
2. A more organized platform (having sections and subforums)
3. Reddit upvotes are far easier to fake than Bitcointalk merits
4. Embedding of images
5. Easier to moderate

Well I think the difference of Bitcointalk and other forum like reddit is that this is made for crypto people to but they put on other thread so others could also join in and learn.
And also we could wear a signature code here that you could see at the lower part of each post that we make(although some section doesn't show it).
We could Learn and Earn from this forum I mean literally.
But welcome to the forum I hope you would learn a lot from here.

This forum is here to bring people together who are interested in crypto currencies. There are sub forums in almost any language to make this forum as international as possible. While reddit has a broad spectrum, we focus here mainly on crypto currencies. If you are an active reddit user than it should be very easy to get used to bitcointalk.

If you don’t like this forum then go away & post elsewhere. This forum has had a huge part to play in bitcoin's lifespan, legends such as Satoshi & Hal Finney were here, bitcoin devs post here. If you don’t like it then feel free to leave.
