I'm pleased to announce the launch of the Bitcoin Foundation:

Bitcoin Foundation standardizes, protects and promotes the use of Bitcoin cryptographic money for the benefit of users worldwide.

The Bitcoin Foundation is modeled on the Linux Foundation. I think Linux is a great "role model" for Bitcoin; it is a very successful open source project that really embraced the notion of "open," encouraging the use of the core technology for a wide range of applications.

I hope that the Bitcoin Foundation will help do the same for Bitcoin.

Of course, "the Foundation" won't do anything at all-- people get things done. I want the Bitcoin Foundation to be an open, member-driven organization, and hope that you or your organization will not only become a member but will help the Foundation accomplish its mission.

Please visit the Foundation website for details, and please keep in mind that nothing is set in stone; the structure of the Foundation can be changed by a vote of its members, and exactly what the Foundation does will largely depend on who is willing to step up do the work to make things happen.

To any of you feel like you should have been invited to be part of the group who defined the initial structure and purpose of the Foundation: I apologize. But in my experience the larger the group, the longer it takes to get things done, and it has been 11 months since I first posted about the possibility of forming a Foundation.

TBF use a traditional centralized organization model to work with bitcoin thus it never had a clear goal, decision making power is not in the management of the foundation but in core devs and miners

The Bitcoin Foundation is not doing anything at all. It is a completely useless organization. They used to support the Core Devs and their work on Bitcoin Core but that has moved on to MIT.

Maybe has the duty to propagate the bitcoin as a currency a technology. The propagandistic question it is important in things like bitcoin which are new things and have yes an not about it in the people.

The foundation might have done some good work in the past but I'm not so sure about whether this is set to continue into the future.

Bitcoin is evolving and during this period it needs strong industry leaders and or spokespeople. The silence from the foundation thus far has been deafening.

Are they not supposed to be 'the' spokesperson for bitcoin? Why the silence....

You see Bitcoin today only because of Bitcoin Foundation. They are backing to Bitcoin by implementing Bitcoin wallet, website, software, nodes, etc.

and some other things like divide the community with some changes on the core side, nah they are doing lot of things in a good way, but not everything is going smoothly and in the right way ( at least IMHO )

i don't think gavin has anything to do with the foundation, but i could be wrong, but i remember that they have done something bad in the past like use money for their dirty purpose, especially their boss, or something like that, i'm not aware of the exact details

No, not all wallet software is written by that foundation. Anyone can run a node, as well.

I agree with this. Maybe they have problems now but the problems are to be solved. The mission of Bitcoin Foundation will make that its existence will last again even after these undesirable situations of the last times.

The Bitcoin Foundation is useless as of now and will probably be forever. They have been involved in scandals and "bankruptcy", as you may see in the last few months of history in the Press sub-forum.

They're here for nothing, they fund their pockets and nothing else, they do nothing and they don't really exist anymore.

I wonder if someone can explain to me.  I've been reading so much recently about the block size and what it should or not be but in all this time I have not seen anything coming from the Bitcoin Foundation.

So what are they here for, how are the funded, what do they do and why do they exist?
