Democracy is the original 51% attack
Quickest, easiest way is to have a cryptoxchange.com account. The moment you sign up, you'll have a namecoin address staring at you. You can also buy/sell namecoins there obviously.

Download the https://bitaddress.org/ source and edit Bitcoin.Address.networkVersion to whatever address version Namecoin uses. Load it up on a computer not connected to the internet, write the keys down, and you've got yourself an extremely secure method of generating and storing your keys.

I don't think that's what the guy above meant when he asked for the 'quickest/easiest way to do this'.

Sounds pretty easy to me!

All I want to do is get a public key (I'll immediately encrypt/archive the private key or wallet.dat). I'll probably never touch it again. Anyone know the quickest/easiest way to do this? I would prefer Windows instructions.

Start the namecoin client and it will generate a wallet.dat. You can pull addresses out of it with 'namecoind getnewaddress'. You don't even need to download the block chain to do this.

The last I heard namecoin didn't have a gui, you have to interact with it on the command line.
