Self-explanatory. When you hover the mouse over that icons, you see "New posts" and when you click, you will see all the threads that had a reply recently and you didn't read them yet. You can see this on the destination once click over the icon- "Recent Unread Topics"

This is a great feature but I doubt many use this feature. I haven't use this feature ever if I can remember.
Include me in those users who don't use this feature. Since I am browsing this forum through my smart phone then I couldn't hover a mouse. Well, I just click the button and find out that it is for recent unread posts. I thought it's symbolizes for "mute" since it looks like a speaker with a slash. Thank for the info but I prefer on browsing insidw of the thread than to use this.

Speaking of which, does anyone know what that symbol is supposed to represent? It looks like cutting through the top of a mountain or an iceberg... and that interpretation would actually make sense.

It's the Logo of Simple machines Forum software. Admin probably just left it as it is when he was customizing the forum. The same logo appears even on their Github Profile

If you look carefully, it's actually a Lever which is a type of simple machine just like a pulley, inclined plane etc.

FYI, The icon will gray out when you scan all the thread that has a today replies on the thread. Anyone using here this feature in the forum?

Correction: Once you read the board, the icon will grey out. When a new topic has been posted since your last visit, it will light up again.

I've only ever used it for the above purpose, and I've found it quite useful.

Since this is related to boards, scroll down while in the Home page and you will get hints on what those icons mean.

You can repeat this if you have an inquiry about threads, while you're in any board (showing the list of threads posted) scroll to the bottom of the page and you will be informed on what the icons there represent.

I have discovered it before when the OP was first created, and I placed my cursor hover the Op it would write the meaning and when I click on the icons recent dropped thread. But I didn't make use of it because I am not using laptop or desktop frequently but I use Android phone more. The features was there since but people have not noticed to use it and also those who have noticed have no interest to use it.
Mine was different because I found out about the icon that it is clickable but I never know it's function because when I clicked the icon it redirects to a page but instead of checking it out, I just use the back button and didn't get to see what will happen next. After that, I know about it being clickable but never know it's function and if I remember correctly, I never used it since I don't know it's function or if it's any use to me.

Maybe OP is the type that only make use of the mobile phone to login to bitcointalk, so he may not have been able to see the information on what it's all about with the mouse point, but what i see that OP never did is in giving a try to check what could it have been if he had made a step to click any, they are new threads or topics unread, it appears on the boards to help you have a quick view on those topics.

It's not a new or mysterious feature, a similar post was made back in June and if you read through the replies, you will get a full understanding on what it is about.

Yes, I have tried to use that feature before (when I also realized it's clickable) to keep myself updated in the forum in case of new replies and comments, but I find out that not almost all topics that receive a new reply are indicated there. Sometimes, after reading a thread, I just add it to my watchlist, but any time I also check the watchlist, I only discover that some of the topics I added are not there. So, I don't use it again, but now I use the BTT Super notifier. I think if you are concerned that all the topics you are looking for are not on that icon, then you can use the BTT Super notifier to get updates on new mentions or comment notifications.

I just notice that if you will click the icon, It will display the thread that received a reply for today but I became confused on its real feature because it doesn't show some of the thread that received today post.

It doesn't show threads that you already read (after visiting the thread) after having new replies, and that's the reason why it gray out, which means there's nothing for you to read on that particular board on that particular time.

I usually didn't use it and i prefer using the Show unread posts since last visit.. Actually, it's more like the same but just in particular board.

I have been in this Forum not up to a year and I haven't thought of clicking those icons, I was told that there are places I'm not suppose to visit or post and that thought stayed in my head till I got to this rank. Is really good to try out some things in this forum as long as you're not breaking the rules of this place. And I'd like to know if one can still post in any of those icons if you get it open?

Yes, the triangle icon is not known to everyone, but its function is very simple. It is intended to show unread topics in the section. When it is blue, this means that there are unread topics, and when it is gray, it means that there are no new unread topics in the section. Personally, I rarely use it.

This triangle icon  has been discussed before in the meta section about the possibility of converting it into another icon like bitcoin icon for example.

It's simple that when you click on a board name, you see all the topics there, but when you click on an icon to the left of the board name, you only see Recent Unread Topics The topics you read or visit remain in read mode until there are new posts by others on that topic after you visit. And the topics that you read will be hidden when you click on the icon and you won't see them. There is no other secret hidden there so don't be surprised because this topic may be new to you but many btt users already know about it.

I just notice the icon as shown on screenshot below when I accidentally click the icon. I'm not aware that this icon is clickable until I accidentally click it now while browshing the forum thread.
