mining operation that generate income too... They use all of this to pay themselves and also to pay their faucet users. People can also "bank"

money with them and they get interest on those deposits. { they use this money to fund their hardware and overheads to expand the mining

If you are looking specifically for freebitco.in, like one of the users have said they make money on mining, and they make some serious money to dole out the interest to all. Then they make money on the hi and lo game, there are many who have spent a fortune trying to get 8888 but have never got, including me. Then people spend coins buying lottery tickets, which no one knows who wins again pure profit. Plus all the huge amount they have now will getting them more interest, but not all facuets make such good income, freebitco.in has earned it's reputation and hence they are profitable.

Freebitco.in is not just a site that has a faucet and is earning from advertisement but it has a gambling feature that is also earning. But anyway the major source of income of those sites are advertisement and even if they have only two or three ads in their sites they still earn big because of the traffic they are generated.

More than a year ago they announced that they are not relying on advertising revenue to survive.With their huge userbase and house edge (5% if I am not mistaken) on their dice game this is not a surprise.

Well freebitco.in owns a dice service too, so that's how they return a portion of the reward they give out. Tho mmost of the faucets rely just on ads for profit, pretty much nothing else.
