There are quite a few replies of people mentioning that Bitcoin is money that should be used, while I agree to a certain degree, it's advised to see it from the other point of view too. Let's suppose that you were the one that spent all your BTC to buy the same pizza you could have bought for $10, you'd definitely regret doing so.

My experience wasn't that significant, however, I'd prefer if I had used my PayPal account. A few years ago, I bought two Minecraft accounts, worth approximately $10-15 at most. The amount of BTC I spent back then would now be worth a few thousand dollars.

If you spend money on necessities, it doasent matter if you use btc, eth ,fiat, gold ,trade a goat , whatever.Money you put aside to invest is and should be considered an investment which you can afford to make and keep aside from other things. The fact that many didnt have enough to invest so they used whatever they could for necessities is a thing.
How is buying a game account a necessity though? I could have easily paid via PayPal or used a credit card instead of spending BTC. I'd prefer I hadn't spend that BTC for such cause, not that regretting it now changes anything, but Bitcoin nowadays, could be considered as digital gold.

Would you spend gold now to buy something like a Minecraft account? Because I wouldn't.

The example isn't stupid at all, if it's not for the laszlo's pizza, there will be no courage for the others to make transactions for bitcoin. Well, for me, whatever I've bought in the past with bitcoin, I don't want to think of it as stupid. As long as I get to use it and it's really something that helped me out, there's no regret.

Most of the things that I've bought in the past with bitcoin were gifts to my parents so that really makes sense and it's not stupid at all with those purchases I've made with bitcoin.

Buying something/whatever you wanted to buy with Bitcoin can't be stupid, I haven't even bought anything stupid with Fiat, also the Pizza story, although in today's world the guy may look like a stupid loser, but backward it to his time he craved for a Pizza and Bitcoin was what he could use to get it, that's not stupidity in my thoughts.
I think the question will expose those who haven't been using Bitcoin often for purchase, because it's hard to remember what you bought if you use Bitcoin constantly for purchase.

Well ofc, the story of buying a "pizza" in 2008 with btc was something very interesting even then.In a different perspective to today.Back then people thought they might get jailed for using a digital currency Cheesy .Amazing

Whats the stupidest thing you have done with BTC in the past , and how much did you spend ?

This one should be interesting. Cool

Every time I remember the time I spent most of my BTCs back in 2017, it still pains me until this day!

As someone who grew up with a single father of a family of five (5), resources were scarce. When my friend introduced me this forum, I was able to participate into different campaign signatures that tremendously helped me in providing for my own study resources. Though I spent it to some books, there were times that I also spent in on buying in-game cosmetics in different games. If I was able to save it, I would have more BTCs now which could potentially buy my father a new car.

In the past I never bought anything non-essential from bitcoin, I always bought something really useful because I didn't want to waste my bitcoins on non-essential purposes. i don't sell all the bitcoins i have even i buy bitcoins when the price goes down. I see a lot of bitcoin holders on this forum who used bitcoin for unimportant things in the past and now they are regretting what they have done.

Interesting and amusing answers so far!

I bought a shopping voucher worth $200 for 1.25 Bitcoins back in 2014 when Bitcoin was round $150. It was after the first big pump (end of 2013) when Bitcoin first reached $1000 and then collapsed down to around $130. So, I almost hit the very low when I bought my voucher Cheesy

And I bet you were happy at the time thinking how a nice purchase you've made.  Grin

Thankfully I did not purchase anything using my precious bitcoins. But the stupidest thing I have done is to convert them into fiat money at various price points below 10k. I would have got 5 times more fiat money if I had done it today. So I consider those acts as pure stupidity.

We all need to understand that bitcoin is an accumulation game! The more you accumulate, the betterbyour future will be. So don't convert them to fiat now. Comvert them only when you are planning to retire.

Not buy something directly with bitcoin, but in past i sell some for daily living. But what to be important thing is, although maybe i sell it in cheap price. Really cheap price compared than now, a lot of people from what i know is did same thing too. Nobody can't predict if bitcoin can be this high, and most of them is only speculation with positive hope that bitcoin will have really high price.

I don't know that I've ever really bought anything "stupid" with bitcoin before, but I have spent a lot of bitcoin on things that I wish I would have used fiat for.  I did buy allergy medicine online once using bitcoin and that is when Conbase (Coinbase) banned me because of it.  They deemed it to "not fit their guidelines"..whatever the hell that means.  I don't know if I would consider that stupid though.

If you online gambled away $1,000 worth of Bitcoin today is actually $1,000,000 worth of Bitcoin 20 years from now.
You basically gambled away one million dollars worth of Bitcoin based on the crypto markets 20 years from now.

This could be true. 50.000 Is still low however it is unreachable for many people in poorer places.

What makes it stupid wasn't concerning the bitcoin price per se, but the fact that I barely had money back then(that $400 was probably like half of my total personal money in total), and the fact that a $400 was totally unnecessary at that time.

Yet you bought that watch ? yeah that made the story more stupid and that is what this post is all about Grin , good that i never had such action towards my spending because i value my money a lot and surely made decision in what i only need for important matter. and I'm sure you learn a lot from that mate  Wink

I do think those early members can relate to this.
While i regret not knowing bitcoin that early ? yet some times i felt lucky because if i had here those time? maybe i will have same story like those above  Grin

But looking backward on all my purchases, I can't think of something that didn't provide any benefits in return, I didn't just get the ease of transactions with bitcoin, I also do get discounts from some platforms that I use. The only negative that I could think of is how I did use it to invest in high-yield investment programs.
my regret is why need to sell my bitcoin earlier before the hype lol.

The stupidest thing that I have done with BTC is not buying bitcoin at the very lowest price as I do not realize how big bitcoin will be in the future, so I do not even think to buy a lot of bitcoin at that time.
While I have some Bitcoin in my wallet, I send it to the exchange (Poloniex at that time) and sell it at below $1,000 and never held for some amount in my wallet.
I think many of us have done the stupidest thing with BTC and we now can only regret it because we can not turn the time back.
But we still have many chances to buy Bitcoin while the price does not increase so high because when the price is already at the very highest price, it will be difficult to buy bitcoin, even for just small satoshi.

It does look like a stupid thing when looking at the current price, everything seems to be wasting one great opportunity.
Well for me personally when I thought that Bitcoin would not get this far and as great as it is now, just selling it at a very low price + spending it without thinking that this is an important thing that must be held from the past until now. Let's move even greater and learn more from experiences

There's no such thing as a stupid BTC purchase. Bitcoin is money, if you wouldn't regret spending US dollars on something, you shouldn't regret spending BTC. No one could have predicted how high Bitcoin will get in all these years. You just need to have a clear strategy. If you view Bitcoin as your savings account, try to replace whatever you are spending. If you're okay with taking profits right now because you want to buy something, then don't regret it in the future.
I agree!

No one knows that bitcoin would really go high like this but somehow it cant really be avoided that you wouldnt have regret that you had spent those coins into something which isnt that much important but
since it is really meant to be spent then its not right that you would really stress out yourself to look back in the past.

Important thing is that you do bought on what makes you happy even though it such a waste or missed opportunity on not to held for long but at least you have gain or benefit something from it.

Not a good idea on looking back to the past and its better to move on.

Yes, the stupidest thing we have ever done is that we sell Bitcoin assets that we have when the Bitcoin price has not reached a high price. Due to economic needs, bitcoin assets that are owned are immediately sold.
If we had known for now that Bitcoin reached $50K price maybe we would be very lucky and rich now.

There is nothing for us to regret buying something that has become our desire, not just because we sacrificed Bitcoin even though at that time the price was indeed equal. If we look back then you will not be able to see how many people say I bought a loaf of bread because I was hungry with 2 BTC. wouldn't it be ridiculous to hear today? Meanwhile, at that time you spent the bread without thinking, later the price of Bitcoin soared high.

I would have loved to be around to buy a loaf of bread for 2 BTC Cheesy That is amazing.
Dumbest things I did were: Forget my wallet acces on blockchain, Bought verious tech toys that i didnt use and the just got outdated over time...

all of that is not stupid, those who used bitcoin as a means of payment in the past are smart people. they are brave people for doing peer-to-peer transactions using bitcoin in the past. they are a part of bitcoin history today, and it is well worth what they do. so it's not stupid to use bitcoin as a means of payment. 1.xx bitcoin for a motorcycle. That is when bitcoin is around $600/$700 if me not wrong. Because who joined in crypto at end of 2014 and early of 2015 when big dump come and cause bitcoin on a price of less than $200 will really happy to see bitcoin price increased multiply times. And i think most of them already sold their coins at that price or when early pump come around $1000.

It's something good but also something bad haha. Well, it was good that you bought a motorcycle, but it was also bad because at the current price, you could buy a car hahaha. Well, that was the time when the price was too low, but we were still earning bitcoin at the time. I don't have the stupidest purchase that I've made, but I believe that investing in a ponzi scheme and putting all of my money into it is the stupidest thing I've done, though on the other hand, I learned from it.

The stupidest thing that I have ever bought using BTC was multivitamins package from a friend of mine. I am not saying that the multivitamins set isn't bad because I am a user of it for almost a decade, it's just that after purchasing it with BTC, days later the price skyrocketed like crazy and I was like "Whaaaaat!!!!". what is this "brake pedal" you speak of?
i bought lots of "stupid" stuff but back in 2011-2013ish coins were cheap, and when they went up in value (like ~1000) it was hard NOT to buy new toys and such. after all i started mining  in 2011 on GPUs just barely understanding the white paper. i made btc while i was sleeping basically (coming from folding@home and SETI i was used to donating free electric and computing power to various projects). bitcoin was basically just another project i ran, even at a loss (like when it crashed to ~2.00 USD). i mean its not like i made money at folding either, thats was just for the warm fuzzies.

so yeah "upgrades" happened here and there, after all bitcoin is made to be USED.. not hodled forever.

i think my most expensive (in todays btc price of ~52k USD) "useless" buy was like 5 games when steam took btc. 5 games, maybe 100 grand in todays value, maybe more. lol. i even played a couple of them, basically i just picked 5 that seemed interesting (turns out they really wernt) as i just wanted to support btc on steam.

and no real regrets. i feel i helped (in my very insignificant way) btc along its journey by early mining (it sure looked to be on deaths door around late 2011) and buying stuff. sure if i held it all today i would be, well pretty flush. but since btc has already allowed me to retire years early i dont worry about it. i achieved my goal. however you need achive yours, go for it.

One could look at it in another way though. What if one just hodls and hodls until one day he ceases to be? He may or may not have planned the way to pass the bitcoins on to his heirs (who in turn may or may not remember or understand the procedure).

One could resort though to a certain personal bitcoin threshold he does not want to use, and have some wiggle room to make purchases with at least a portion. Now since bitcoin seems to always rise in the aftermaths of an extended period of time in the worst case scenario, every made purchase with bitcoin may seem "expensive" on hinder thought, but at least those items/purchases were likely enjoyed …

I won't regret if bought any goods with Bitcoin. But have done a stupid thing as well. I had bought a few shitcoin which is regrettable forever. I purchased a few shitcoin for 1.5 BTC when Bitcoin was approx $10K.

I also sold a smaller amount to invest in one altcoin, but that was still at the beginning of my contact with cryptocurrencies - the project seemed very interesting and promising. Even though the whole thing failed, I still learned an important life lesson and I no longer spent BTC on any nonsense.

Everything else that I paid with BTC and that I pay today is completely justified for me, because I still think that Bitcoin is, first of all, a currency, and only then a store of value.

I agree with your decision, we dont know about future, when all people’s thinking was that virtual currency is under value or low value, then you buy a laptop through your bitcoin, and completed your demand, and as my opinion it is not stupidity, that was your little success. For the “Bitcoin is money, there's nothing to be regretted” replies, I have nothing to say, but this. You've confused or haven't understood the definition of the verb “regret”. When you're the owner of something, whether that's Bitcoin or a baseball card, and years after you've got rid of it suddenly costs much more than the price you sold it, you should feel regretted. You should feel contrite about not owning it anymore, because it was down to your decision.

The fact that Bitcoin is money says nothing; you saw the guy who paid a fortune for two pizzas and it was down to you to not repeat the same mistake. Unless if you believe you're the one who'll do the first step(s); if that's so, then good luck.

Was it a mistake, though? I hope not. If it was, then it is really sad. Sadness over what's done in the past is regret enough.

Personally, however, I don't regret much. I don't dwell much in the past. But I definitely agree with you that there is such a thing as regret. It is easy to say, "I did what should be done with Bitcoin, anyway." But we are human beings; our rational minds know how to compute. We have wishes. We have wants. We have dreams. And if we are to think of more than half a billion USD in today's price spent on a couple of pizza a little more than a decade ago, it is normal to feel sad of what's missed.

Of course, no point crying over spilled milk. After all, life moves forward not backward.

I bought a phone cover for Iphone 12 Pro from BTC.
I don’t want to list the site here, as if anything goes wrong i will be blame for promoting the site.
As the site was new and unpopular but has pretty decent quality covers, so I thought to purchase it.

Exactly, we should not regret spending our bitcoin because that is how it was meant. We never know the price can increase this big but the thing in the past already happened and we cant change it.

Anyway, IIRC, I bought a cellphone just to join the ride of the people around who also have it, although I still have an existing phone that time. I cant say its a stupid decision but would be better if I never spend my btc for things that I dont really need yet at that time.

The stupidest? Actually I cannot remember anything very stupid that I spent my Bitcoin on. I think the very stupid thing that I did with my Bitcoin is converting it to fiat and spending it on useless stuff. In fact, that converting alone is already stupid considering that I did not even badly need that money. And I did a lot of conversions in the past when the price of Bitcoin was just below $5,000. But that was the time when I was a newbie. I already learned my lessons.

Ermmm some gadget iirc, I don't remember if it was my graphics tablet or my keyboard (probably both tbh), but yea that was one. The other was some merch from one of my most followed artists, saw that they had cryptocurrency accepted so I went ahead to try it. My former was back in 2016, and the latter was just last year iirc. Not really the stupidest, but rather some of the few things I actually spent BTC on.

Funny thing is, the former was when I was still in high school, didn't want to let my parents know I bought something (which was stupid, I'm gonna use it so ofc they're gonna discover it), so I went ahead to use the BTC I bought a few years back which I bought with the help of some of my friends that could buy it.

It's always something that I would never forget—buying a good backpack for $120, IIRC. I mean, at the time, it was something that I wanted, so I was happy. It was 0.04 BTC back then, so right now, every time I look at that bag, it's like, why???

I think it serves as a reminder for everyone that we do things because we want to be rewarded, and at that time, it was a good decision because we made it happen already. We cannot do anything else anymore, Just accept it.

We don't need to ponder much on the past.

As I bought some useful things, I also have some stupidest things I bought with bitcoins. The big cabinet in my room and the by one take one electric fan are some of those when Bitcoin was about under $10,000 in the year 2018. I think if I'm not mistaken, I got those BTC from the Yobit signature campaign which lasted 1 month. one of the highest rates of signature spammers. There's no regret especially if that time Bitcoin will really help you when it comes to financial matters.

To be honest, for how many years I didn't invest in Bitcoin, most of them I earned here in the forum and it will exchange to fiat (in short I never hold that way) and spent what I ever I want.  Now, though there's a little regret why I didn't save even a little amount of my earnings, overall that is fine, at least it helps me when I most needed most especially at that time when pandemic comes.

I checked my Bitcoin wallet lately and when I calculated the value compared today if I'm hoarding, that's a huge amount and I can't believe it.  But the past is past, there's nothing we can do.  No regret just accumulate again.

Even though I believed fully in the potential of btc
If you believed in the potential, why didn't you buy once you had your chance later?

I've never actualy been Bitcoinless in the past half decade, I like to spend it , buy it , trade it.
Still , there are certain useless things we all did with btc. Hell, I dont even know the password or secret phrase to my first ever btc wallet, who knows how much money it has, when it was 200$ per btc, i left 20$ in it:)
Thatssss 6000 roughly * :') Different wallet hosts will delete inactive accounts , so 0$ possibly.

My own was having to generate 0.07 btc through all these watch to earn btc satoshi back in 2012 and wasted it all on a scam doubler site. It all looked like a play until 2017 that I got back in fully into crypto, that was when I realized I'd make the biggest mistake of my life.

2BTC for a pizza ? 10BTC for a video game ?
Whats the stupidest thing you have done with BTC in the past , and how much did you spend ?

This one should be interesting. Cool

Mine is 3BTC for a car , when it was 1.5K value. Its not the worst loss, but still I regret it deeply.
my dumbest thing about BTC is that i remember correctly in 2015 i had 0.5 BTC and sold it for pretty cheap then to follow a Bitcoinnect (BCC) multi-level ponzi project and then i lost all after that, this was my biggest lesson for greed and i don't want to join any multilevel project even short term projects

Btconnect was so well advertised, I remember it. Those people must have taken 10's of millions of US$ eq.
Genuinely sorry for anyone who invested , I wanted to invest but somehow skipped it , then found out a month later it was a hugeee scam.

Why do you regret buying a car? Did you splurge on the car, or did you actually need one? Would your life have been better without a car for all those years?

Well, much like mk4 , that btc was gathered by investing all the funds I've had at the time.Even though I believed fully in the potential of btc, it was not worth pausing my life in hopes of fast profit.(Which it wasnt, it took 2 Years for a major price surge)
To answer your question, it was a semi-splurge.And maybe stupid, is a wrong choice of words, but I do regret it in a way,on the other side I woulden't change a thing if I could.

well i don't regret taking bitcoin and using it to buy things in the real world, but i get angry when i think i took bitcoin and i bought shitcoins and to this day they are worthless because the Devs abandoned the project, it makes me very angry. I haven't stopped taking my bitcoins to buy things in the real world because I don't see bitcoin just as an investment, I see bitcoin as a currency to buy things and honestly it would be a great thing if everyone started looking at bitcoin as a currency and let go of the fanaticism of " HODL " I know there are hundreds of people who are not fanatics, but most who put it in Hodl's head have become fanatics

I won't regret if bought any goods with Bitcoin. But have done a stupid thing as well. I had bought a few shitcoin which is regrettable forever. I purchased a few shitcoin for 1.5 BTC when Bitcoin was approx $10K. But I was failed to recover even in USDT value that I spent to bought shitcoin. These were the worst and memorable stupid things. I think most of us made the same mistakes that are related to crypto-currency.

I sold a few Bitcoin at a lower price, but I don't regret that since I sold them for my needs. Because I believe Bitcoin is for life, not for lifetime hold. We should take advantage of volatility, but always it won't happen due to daily needs.

I sold my bitcoins to buy a laptop in 2015, but I don't think it's stupid and I don't regret it. I think it was quite an interesting experience because what people call virtual currency has no value but for me, I can use bitcoin to exchange for what i need at that time.

+1. If you sell Bitcoin for something you need, it can't be termed stupid.
If those stupid transactions were never made, the price of Bitcoin would likely have not reached the values it is at now, that makes most regret their purchases. If everyone who hold bitcoins locked up their coins and did not trade or sell it for anything else, the trading volume would go to zero, eliminating supply completely and limiting the growth of the network.

Where one can look back and regret a transaction is when they sold because they believed bitcoins to be worthless with no potential and spent it on things they didn't need.

I don't think it's stupid because considering that at that time the price was like that and maybe you thought at that time it was worth it to do.
it's in the past friends why are you still regretting things that have happened. a few years ago, especially at the beginning of the creation of btc, indeed it was very cheap and at that time most people exchanged their btc for certain foods or products but it was not stupid because at that time it was like that because it existed in the period before btc was expensive.
but maybe it's a stupid thing when you do it now but for a few years ago I don't think it's stupid.

A $400 watch when bitcoin was at like $800 if I remember correctly. What makes it stupid wasn't concerning the bitcoin price per se, but the fact that I barely had money back then(that $400 was probably like half of my total personal money in total), and the fact that a $400 was totally unnecessary at that time.
