I gave someone too much money a few times at my last job just because I was too lazy to count. Nobody knows buy me cause we all get cubicles.

Well obviously you wouldn't get fired in that case, but why did you cheat with a coworker? Weren't you scared that your wife would find out?

I fucked one of the girls from another department, in my office. We continued to fuck for 6 months (generally outside of the office), until HR found out. They gave us a day warning that we were going to be fired, mainly so I could tell my wife who worked at the company before she found out from everyone else. I'm now divorced, and engaged to the girl.

No wild office sex adventures on my side, however early on in my career I fucked up a tender quote that I prepared, I miscalculated the total price of hardware by $40,000. I only realized it after the deal was sealed and we couldn't change the price. The client was also surprised about the low price but they kept silent. Even though i was real close to My boss he was furious and didn't talk to me for a week. I pretty much assumed I'll be fired as the firm had to take a $40K loss on the deal.

Eventually my boss forgave me and I wasn't fired, I made up for the loss in future deals so things got sorted out eventually.

You should do regulars backups. Most don't see the importance of this, until they get burned.

While a lab tech at Swift Premium in St. Charles, IL, I once processed a chamber of $60K worth of sausage to a different casing setting. Needless to say, casings where still strung up but the meat, et al. was on the floor, whereupon the electric forklift scooped it all up and was re-processed into IP Farmer, then shipped to Puerto Rico to minimize the lost.

At the same plant, at about the same time frame, though I didn't do it, a quarter of a million dollars of kangaroo meat came in that wasn't ordered. What was ordered was horse from Australia. The kangaroo was sold at a discounted price to White Castle. Sounds far-fetched, but is a true story.

I would still be working there if they didn't force me to go to the Playboy Club in Wisconsin. Also true. Somehow corporate in Chicago didn't take too kindly to what I did there. BTW, it had nothing to do with drinking, the girls, and damage to property.

Back in my undergraduate, college years, I worked at a smoothie place in Santa Barbara.  They had all these additives and supplements customers could purchase for a small fee to add to their smoothies.  As employees, we were entitled to one free smoothie per shift.

One of the available supplements was guarana, an energy supplement with high concentrations of caffeine.  Unlike the other powdered supplements which were scooped out of cups with plastic teaspoons, the guarana was kept in a shaker (e.g. like salt or pepper).  I tried shaking a little guarana into my daily smoothie during one of my shifts, but the cap was loose and I ended up dumping the whole shaker of guarana into my drink.

I didn't want to waste the other ingredients I had already put into my drink, so instead I decided to use a spoon to scoop out the excess guarana.  Big mistake; apparently, I didn't get nearly enough guarana out.  

I was fortunate that I decided to make the smoothie at the end of the shift so that, 30 minutes later, I was out of work and back at my apartment when all of the vomiting and shitting began.

I remember it was one of the worst physical sicknesses I've ever experienced.  I felt ice cold and my body was shaking profusely for several hours, and although my body felt completely exhausted and the slightest movement would make me puke instantly, finding a comfortable position, let alone sleeping, was impossible.  I ended up calling poison control and very nearly went to the hospital.  About six hours later, I had finally recovered.

TL;DR:  Don't overdose on caffeine.

The OP reminds me of one time in which I started hosting a gameserver for my gaming community and when I tried to remove a file, I accidentally pressed ~ instead of 1 (yes, I somehow mispressed both shift and the 1) and farewell, home directory. We did have weekly backups, so losses were not that bad.

Edit: For anyone wondering, it was a Gmod server with custom scripts (which were coded to have numbered files such as 1, 2, and 3 without extensions) for a sort of weird-structured database. We stopped it about 2 years ago due to time restrictions.

I did the same to my secretary in my office. But no one sees us. It is not messed up really. Always lock the door. lol

I was caught red handed having sex with the hot receptionist.

I have done worst mistakes when I done IT work.  First mistake I done  and my teacher always told me to back up files, back up, back up back up. This is what he use to say to me.  when I erased a my client HD without backing it up.  that was the biggest lesson I had learned.

I will tell you my story from the times when I was a "painter-decorator"

There was a house where we were working. Our task was to paint, decorate, wallpapering and stuff...

In the living room there was marble table made to put a TV on it.  Table was about 50-60cm high and it was attached to the wall.

Below this table there was wooden floor. A floor was made from bamboo wood. And there was only horizontal connections. One board was same length like a living room. About 6 meters length.

Everything was covered nicely with expensive secure layers of felt and cardboard.

My job was to put this : on a wall attached to a fireplace.

It is very easy job. Those stones came in pieces so you have prepaded piece in a size ~20cmx60cm andyou just need to cut it from length which is very easy to cut with grinder.

So this is very easy job for a good money and...

I had almost whole wall completed and there was a last piece to glue. And that last place to glue it was too high for me and I need just a little step to glue it there. I was too lazy to go and find a ladder  so I though that I will stand on that marble table (just for 3 seconds! this is a time needed to glue there prepared piece ).

So I step on this marble table and it immediately crushed into hundreds of pieces and what was the best part - marble is sharp and heavy while crushed, and there was a bamboo floor that I mentioned before


BUT !!! I was so lucky! All of our secure coverings used on the floor made a great job! Floor was ok! Untouched, but mu heart when I was uncovering this to see what happen ... I almost had a heart attack

At the end - I just needed to buy marble table for $250 and lady - owner of this house wasn't really mad about it ... as I promised it will have same color and it will be the same I knew guy who made it, so I just ordered another one ...

$250 was really ok when I was thinking about floor ...



AND! what is more funny about it is that it was 13th Friday of February 2009 and  you wont believe but I asked my friend to count how many pieces were already glued on the wall, (I was on the way with broken table to the workshop to order new one), he told me there was already 13 pieces on the wall I was trying to glue 14th while I broke this table.

But. I do not really believe 13, 13th is unlucky number. I was born 13th (Thursday)

Went in for a carpet job. My partner did not notify me the carpet was being reused,I cut that bitch into a bunch of sections. He come back, yea, you can imagine. Then the bosses was like didn't you notice the carpet was new, I said I was in a rich home, rich ppl are odd, they throw brand new shit away well cuz they have the money for it.

They fired me 2 days before thanksgiving, gave me a small turkey n said goodluck working.

It was dumb on my part though.

At a different job prior that explains why I did what I did above.
Explanation:
Part A)
Layed a 4000 Square foot home of hard wood flooring. The bitch "owner" didn't like the color, me and my partner ended up tearing the wood up as directed by the boss. this was horrible, busted knuckles, hands, boards bouncing up smacking hands on the tearup

So yea.

Carpet jobs are usually tearup and lay new.

I didn't raise the garage door high enough once the the door got dented pretty bad but It could have been a whole lot worse. 

It's human to make a mistake. This eventually will happen. You can only try to learn from it, so that the same mistakes don't happen twice.

I put up a song that I liked, played it. I was enjoying it and didn't even focus that much. While I was mixing my finger twitched and turned off the sound on the channel. I didn't realize what I had done. It took me 30 seconds before I found the issue. Everyone was staring at me at the club. 

I recently found out I was missing a step when "store use" products at work. for the past year I haven't been pressing "C" to complete the process and so everything I've scanned has been going into our missing/stolen report. its just stuff like hand sanitizer, rubber bands and cleaning supplies but still...

I had two funny situations:

1. I was fixing a client's computer. Everything went smoothly and then I saw that his recycle bin is "full". So I pressed "Empty..."
Client came to a room so I told him what I did to fix his computer and I told him that he had a lot of trash in a bin ... and I clean it too    for   him.  He told me he was holding there most important things for his studies and work ...
.. hours of recovering.

2.Almost same kind of mistake, but: I recommend CCleaner to all of mine customers. Once I installed CCleaner for my client and to show him how does it work I use this tool to clean up his system trashes...

And I forgot to uncheck "delete history" in a web browser

He told me that he had more than 200 stored addresses that he really need and he was searching for those sites for years... and he was only using his history to open those addresses ....
...hours of recovering..

I once accidentally hit select-all on my hard-drive, deleted everything without noticing, and then wondered "why is it taking 15 minutes to clear my trash bin" --- i was not backed up.
