I would like to buy one of those founder edition GPUs I guess thats why they are called hotcakes, if you can find them you dont have to worry about LHR unless they are 3070ti and 3080ti, some even hunt for OEM 3070 and 3060 that come prebuilt with gaming PCs

Since I've started buying and building mining rigs I've never come across a founders edition GPU, is there something special about these builds that makes them scarce or what? I only see what they look like online.
The only justification for the founders edition video cards was that they were without the LHR restriction. But then these video cards began to be made with LHR. I would buy regular graphics cards for mining because they are cheaper.

Remember those dual GPUs that AMD used to build for certain chipsets. Back when Radeon 6950/6970 was the high end selling GPU they released an Radeon 6990. This was basically a dual 6950 chipset GPU.

Later they did the same for the Radeon 7970 and released an dual Tahiti Radeon 7990. And a year or two later released a special addition Radeon R9x295 which is basically two r9 290 Hawaii chipsets on one board.

These are rare and will be collectibles soon.

I'll post here because I always want to buy a founders edition but I never had the chance to buy one
I don't live in US or Europe, so it's almost impossible to get a founders edition in my country, the only people I see with one are reviewers on Youtube who get with Nvidia and some people who bought in a trip to US.
I think the best place to buy is BestBuy US, but again, it's hard, and almost impossible in 2020 - 2021 due to scarcity

Take a look here: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/geforce-graphics-cards/5/402726/how-to-get-a-founders-edition/

You can not get them.

The closest I got were some hp 3070 cards that were an oem mod of the FE cards.

Best Buy sold them out from under me endlessly.

and nvidia.com never had them in stock

the oem slightly modded 3070 and 3060ti very close to the FE models that I got in dell and hp rigs were all non-lhr

They are all about a year or 15 months old they all work and have been paid off.

I think I got 3x 3060ti and 3x 3070

if you are european check
LDLC
notebooksbilliger.de

they stock up on FE cards once a month or so. I use a discord server(stockdrops) that sends notifications when they are in stock but usually they're out of stock within seconds.
the best part about them are that afaik none of them have LHR(except for the 3070ti/3080ti)

They are special made GPUs meaning they are limited in numbers, of cos they will be scarce to get, also 3060ti and 3070 founders edition are none LHR, they are miners first target too.

They aren't produced in volume because they are produced and sold directly by nVidia and would compete with their
partners like ASUS & EVGA. Most retailers won't sell the FE to due agreements with those partners.

**In BTC since 2013**
These are special editions, made for a more marketing purpose. But of course technically it may have some superior features.

They should only produce a few hundred units, to distribute to very specific partners, to distribute to influential youtubers and gamers. And then some units in a specific store, like Best Buy, where they must already have some partnership.

On the other hand, they are such premium cards, that if you can buy them, you probably won't use them for mining.
