Somebody else also had an issue like yours a few days ago. There is probably something wrong with mycelium. I know it looks like it doesn't make sense but like i said, somebody else also reported this. Why not electrum users reporting things like this but Mycelium users?

I suggest you to get rid of it.
I did. I no longer use that wallet.
To this day I still haven't had this issue. Did you ever hear back from mycelium about the possible bug? My low priority shows up around 54 Satoshis/byte and high priority is well over 100 at the moment (130 I think when I checked?).

there's a lot of inputs. probably 20-25. how do i find out how big it actually is? i can't find that anywhere in mycelium.
Mycelium won't tell you, but if you do some math based on the current lowest tx fee to get a transaction confirmed without any delays, you would get ~0.022 for 20 inputs and ~0.0027 for 25 inputs, assuming a single output. You could probably lower that to get it confirmed a little slower. But yeah, I can't see that costing $40 now.

I have to guess here, since you didnt include the actual calculation, but your numbers seem off. 148 bytes[1] per input make a 20 input TX, including a 34 byte output, 148*20+20=2980 byte in size. With 25 inputs it would be 3720 byte accordingly. If we assume a reasonable fee of 60 satoshi per byte[2] thats 0.001788 BTC (20 inputs) or 0.002232 BTC (25 inputs) in fee.

[1] most public keys are now compressed thus 148 instead of 180 byte.

I must have been reading size calculation off an older site, that's the number I used. Also, nice avatar lol.

i've found fees to be insane recently. it wanted $40 for a 1 btc high priority transaction recently. checking again a few days later it was $12 and normal $5. i do have quite a few inputs. i don't have that many. i ain't interested in making miners richer than they are. i'll take my private keys elsewhere if this continues and forget bitcoin completely if this is the new norm.
How big would your transaction be? The combination of higher fees plus a very large transaction could likely be the source instead of Mycelium.

Unfortunately you were just very generous to the miner that got the block. Mycelium won't refund you (I'd have to assume) but I agree that this bug should be reported to them.

Was thinking of switching to mycelium but now I am hesitant to do so because of this. Is there an option to manually set the fees before I send the Bitcoins or is it automatically set?

Mycelium let's you choose 4 different options. If you look at the fees beforehand it'll be very obvious what you're paying. The 4 options are:

    • Low-prio (low priority)
    • Economic
    • Normal
    • Priority

I've never had an issue like this with mycelium ever. 1700 Satoshis/byte is 10x more than you would ever need.[/list]
I have also never had an issue with mycelium, ever. It's been a fantastic mobile wallet in my opinion.

Awesome, figured something was off. Thanks for the help, contacting them now. Do they usually do refund or anything? Or basically apology and move along? Not a huge amount so not terribly worried but still sucks.

The fee does not go to them so they cant refund and also doubt they would send any coins your way. If its a bug though, its better when its fixed.

Yeah! Cause the fee goes to the miner who mines the block which includes your transaction

No problem, its indeed only two inputs[1]. I suspected more with that fee. Its 1724 satoshi per byte, which is high even for a "priority fee". I did one myself recently and paid 137 satoshi per byte. Its also odd that the one input (the lower one on bc.i) for 7624 satoshi was used at all. Not sure, but does not seem right. I would contact them directly[2] maybe there is a bug that spends unusual large fees when there are small inputs used.

Am I missing something? I do a $19 transaction and they charge me $4?

Post the TX ID please, I tried to write it down from the picture and failed twice.
