I wouldn't define it yet but will simply give a foundational idea of what it's about in the real sense. Imagine it as an interconnected worlds in their own bubbles. I think future definition could develop from here.

At the moment, I don't believe the word has a precise definition. Metaverse is a term Neal Stephenson coined in his 1992 novel Snow Crash, which concerns the spread of malware capable of causing brain damage. As a student, I read the book, but today I see Metaverse in a slightly different light.
While Stephenson was interested in what the Internet might become, the etymology of the word has become a fashionable way of talking about our reality. "The world is emerging from an information darkness to a lighted reality" is one of the Metaverse's core principles.
As for a college student, the Internet seemed a place of data, sometimes dark, often uncertain. However, the idea of a global distributed network of machines was still distant. When the Metaverse was first mentioned, it was described as a higher order interface between human minds and machines.

Today, Metaverse could be interpreted as a means of accessing and living within the Internet of tomorrow. It is an architecture that allows people to build other worlds on top of the Internet.
