Funny this thread just came up, I've been listening to a few audiobooks on the drive to work lately. Mainly business and self improvement books.

I love the fact that most audiobook apps have a speed up function, so you can get through an 8 hour book in about 6 hours if you set it to 1.25x speed.. any faster than that and it gets hard to follow if it's a book that you have to concentrate on.

If you like business books then I highly recommend any book from Patrick Lencioni.  He rights in parable form, meaning they're stories, and they do a great job keeping the book interesting while teaching.

I've been listening to a lot of Michael Lewis and Malcolm Gladwell on my commute to work. My 2 favorites are Michael Lews: The Undoing Project & Malcolm Gladwell: David & Goliath

Oh!  The Undoing Project sounds interesting!  I love Malcom Gladwell as well, but I've found business books better to read than listen to.  Some can keep my mind engaged when I'm doing other tasks, but it's not as enjoyable as storied books.  I might have to give Michael Lewis a shot.

Old twilight zone (1950-1960) are still good to listen on a long road trip. Drove to FL  last year 19 hour drive listening to twilight zone...

I didn't even think about the Twilight Zone!  And they're like 60-70 cents per episode on Audible!  I just listened to the samples and I'm surprised how well the audio has held up since they're the old radio episodes.  Thanks!

I've listened to over 200 audiobooks so I'm happy to provide suggestions.  I mostly listen to science fiction and fantasy but also have some religious and business books under my belt.  If you like realistic science fiction then the Expanse series is the way to go.  No faster than light travel, no artificial gravity, space battles hundreds of kilometers apart, etc.  If you like fantastical science fiction, that borders on fantasy, then the Red Rising trilogy is the way to go.  A future society that's modeled on Roman culture, massive warships w/ artificial gravity, energy armor, etc.

Oh, and if you like crazy well built worlds and you love super heroes, then give Brandon Sanderson's Steelheart trilogy a shot.  What a wonderful world he created!

I never understood audiobooks until a friend of mine told me he's always listening to them while driving, working, or doing whatever that doesn't allow him to actually read. And that is saves him a ton of time. He was also very shocked how people don't like audiobooks. I later started listening to audiobooks to put me to sleep. If I was reading, I had to have a light on and I wasn't really able to sleep, but if I just put my headphones in I would fall asleep in minutes. I don't really remember everything that I listened to, but I do know that I listened to Stephen Hawking's books at some point.

If you begin listening for pleasure rather than assisting you to sleep then make sure you find one that has a great narrator.  The issue with audiobooks is that you need two things to happen; a great author and a great narrator.  I've listened to some books that were obviously great but the narrator ruined it.  If you care, the Harry Potter books have probably the greatest narrator ever; if you pick them up get the ones narrated by Jim Dale.

My favourite book, not only audio, is "War of the worlds". I simply adore her to re-read, and sometimes and to listen before a dream. I recommend all, whoever her did not yet read or did not listen.
