What BTC is doing now is exactly what needs to happen to get alt season going.  Just weak sideways action with alts catching up and ALT/BTC pairs performing and in the green.  We need those green candle shoots.  Smiley

Been looking at the ALT/USD laggards.  SXP/USD and OXT/USD...  These little guys should trend up any day now.

Edit:  And FIL/USD.

It’s coming guys...  A growing number of alts are finally trending against BTC.  And it’s about time they start to decouple tbh.  DOT, AVA, ALGO, ADA all looking strong.

Its looks like the prices for Bitcoin and Ether retreat from their recent highs, the strong performance of other cryptocurrencies indicate traders and investors may now be turning to alternative coins for potential high returns so this is the positive sign of it as we have seen altcoins pump both before and after previous correction in ways that we have not really seen since 2017 so hopefully Alt season will happen this year.

^  It hasn’t.  I’m not sure how you’re looking at the market but it kinda looks slightly bearish to me.  Dunno...  But alts have been gaining against BTC a bit.  We’ll see how it goes.

Look, now that the altcoin season has arrived, look at the ethereum price for example, it's already at $ 1176 on CoinMarketCap. so I think now the altcoin season is in a good position, even though it can't be maximized but it has shown a good position than last year

Yeah, not yet but look at the price of Bitcoin today it seems like the bear trap is done doing their job. From $33k up to $40k looks like we are back again in business and if Bitcoin continue to pump within this month it may be positive pump to other altcoins but I don't think most altcoins will experience the bull market, just look at the CMC and most altcoins aren't on the green side.
But again drops to 38k , i think the maintaining value of Bitcoin now is 35,000-40,000$ while looking for a chance to finally break the 45,000 so 50k will be an easy target.

But altcoin season seems to be hard to come now , because of this stable Bitcoin domination the chance of increasing the investors are smaller .

But of course there will be a Big Player that may do the Job sooner , for the altcoin season to be in Possible way.

Might be but likely this looks a consolidation case on my end and that's a good thing if we can break the past days resistance but if not then I'd be really expecting a consolidation with higher lows. The only win-win I can think of is picking the right alts because if bitcoin cap goes higher alts goes higher too and moreover if bitcoin cap goes lower then people will look for altcoins and altcoins cap may surge up.

History suggests that altcoins may be set for take off as Bitcoin achieves record high prices. History has it that, in the past two bull seasons where Bitcoin has outperformed its all time high, altcoins have typically rallied in its wake. I think before the alt season sets in, there must be a major correction as bitcoin pump to over $40,000 needs a major correction, after which investors will move funds from bitcoin to altcoins. This may happen between now and March.
Oh, what a bold statement but I partly believe in it until we see those huge spikes especially on altcoins paired with BTC usually I think they'll be the game changer. This are all speculations but I believe alt season is imminent and as always if it does I will totally not miss out this time. FOMO la FOMO.

But for the Bitcoin price reaching another ATH is a trend again if it's going to hit $50k this time or more between now and next month since I don't think there will be a bull in March.
I believe we may not touch $50k yet but I think $42k was enough to trigger an altseason, but who knows we may get onto huge numbers even up to $100k (which I speculate to happen by last quarter).

Too early to end the altseason and I’m confident that Bitcoin will bounce back or at least stabilize on a good price for a while and the alt season will take over the market. There’s a lot of good altcoins that didn’t dump that much so I think there’s a good support level and when the pullback is done, we can start the bull trend again with altcoins.
The price of bitcoin and most of the alts rallied in the past few months and even though we are seeing some minor corrections the market is recovering in a couple of days. The only coins that did not rally during this period is the shit tokens that were created during the last rally and most of the coins died and there is no way they will rally nor expect to see any movement even though some of the projects are trying to shill to garner some momentum. The rest of the top coins rallied

Altcoin season, the season when many altcoins will pump massively; however I don't think it will happen this time around or will not be happening anytime soon, because on one hand Bitcoin is still increasing and maintaining a good price and on the other, some selected altcoins are already bullish with Bitcoin and have so far grown so much. Therefore, to the best of my knowledge, what i can deduce so far from the market is that, good altcoins are growing with Bitcoin not minding its dominance and others are still struggling waiting for altcoin season, therefore so far more attention is still on Bitcoin and top altcoins like Ethereum, altcoin season seems to be far fetched. Thus, it's better getting into any top altcoin or any good altcoin than waiting for altcoin season which might not happen soon.

Here’s the thing..  BTC has been by far out performing alts.  It has been rising faster and bigger.  If you’re betting on alts, sure you’d have some gains but you’re leaving money on the table if you aren’t holding BTC instead.

On the other hand if BTC is being sold down, everything is sold down...  BTC should go sideways for a bit for alt season to start.  I think there’ll be a time for that.  But it will be short.

Dash price explodes 100%, BCH breaks out as Bitcoin cools off below $40K
https://cointelegraph.com/news/dash-price-explodes-100-bch-breaks-out-as-bitcoin-cools-off-below-40k

Quote
However, the biggest gainer over the past 24 hours is Dash with its price rising roughly 40%. During the short parabolic rally, DASH surged by over 100% from $95 to as high as $194, only to pull back to the $140 level.

With regards to Dash, there is also this little snippet of information

fyi. it's not because of grayscale. institutions do their best to not affect price as much as they can. if they did something like that, it would endanger their certs + investor interest if it was obvious; no one would give them professional access if they are manipulating the market.

now... a lot of ordinary folks all doing it at once while coordinated?

This happened in 2017... don't you guys read charts?

Again, this is the first dump. BTC will rise from ~25k again and some alts will start to rise again. March there will be another dump on BTC. And alts will skyrocket from there. Simple trading plan, follow and profit.

Well performing cryptocoins today from top 20 (https://coinmarketcap.com/coins/)

Dash price explodes 100%, BCH breaks out as Bitcoin cools off below $40K
https://cointelegraph.com/news/dash-price-explodes-100-bch-breaks-out-as-bitcoin-cools-off-below-40k

A major announcement for DASH is coming at the end of the month rumoured to be inclusion into the Grayscale Trust as a new insitutional investment vehicle to allow the Wall St. fat cats easy access to accumulate DASH.

If true, it would not be unreasonable to expect an even stronger price movement for Dash end of the month.

Also strong price performance from Ethereum Classic (+26.92%) today. Looks like whales are slowly starting to diversy their assets into Altcoins.
One altcoin after another is getting pumped these days.

Altcoins are still very far away from Altcoin Year / Altcoin Season / Altcoin Month.
Link : https://www.blockchaincenter.net/altcoin-season-index/

Of course you don't want to wait untill it is actually Altcoin Season, before investing in Altcoins.
That needs to be done before that, to maximize one's own profits (personal opinion, not investment advice).

^  It’s all about if it’s alt season or not and not making more profit in an alt per individual basis.  Check the site out and you’ll get it.  And I mean you’ve been here for almost as long as me so you prolly already know this.  But yeah I get it..  There are some alts you could profit more even if it’s BTC season.

Check out qwizzie’s posts itt.  Alt season starts when altcoins outperform BTC at the market.  We are currently seeing a BTC dominated market when holding BTC is much better than holding alts cos you gain more buying power.  The reverse is true during alt season cos your alts could gain you more value in BTC.

https://www.blockchaincenter.net/altcoin-season-index/

^  Good to check and look at from time to time...  Thanks qwizzie.
I do not get it, if you are making more profit holding ETH (which you do) isn't that suppose to be something better. I mean if you increase the price of bitcoin 10% that would be 80 more billion dollars, whereas if you increased the ETH price which is second biggest, by 50% that would be only 70 billion dollars, so there is a big difference between capacity and doesnt mean that alts are not profitable to hold. Let me explain it this way, you think holding btc is better? By the start of the year bitcoin price was 7k in 2020, right now a bit over a year later, we are at 40k, how much increase is that? 5.7 times the increase right? That is a very good return.

However ETH was 135 dollars by the start of 2020, and right now it is 1250 dollars that is a 9.2 increase in just over a year. So, if you think alts do not profit you more than holding bitcoin, you haven't checked the prices.

So 30-50% dump from Bitcoin price ? Please share your Magic Ball for more compliance .

Look 2017 BTC charts, BTC dominance charts, Altcoin charts in the same period.

2017 had 2 BTC drops before altseason:

1) 30% drop second week of January

2) 30% drop 3 first weeks of March

I don't even need to tell you what happened after that.

For the lulz.

It is really getting disappointing for longterm altcoin holders because their hopes and expectattions are still not met even after years of wait but personally i am hopeful that the real altseason will be here around march-april this year.
On the contrary, the market is not disappointing if the altcoin longterm holder don't invest when the market was at its last ATH price and after doing some research about the altcoin market I see that some altcoin has already made another new ATH which is quite not disappointing but I think we are too haste for the altcoin market to shoot up with BTC while the major investors (institutions) only focus on BTC market.

Yes,,, as soon as ETH reached $1000 again you can say altseason already started. As usual, thanks to Bitcoin which is now about $700B in total market cap. The 1 Trillion including alts will for sure make all of alts rally now, even XRP is going crazy with all the hype.

As you say, short lived only though. Make the best of it.

I'm afraid altseason can only come if the Bitcoin price stabilizes without a huge correction and panic sell after the bubble bursts.
Right now, everyone is watching Bitcoin's price rise. When it starts to fall strong, everyone will flee the market and the alts will start falling as well. Only if the correction gonna be small and the Bitcoin price stabilizes, people will start looking for a Bitcoin follower among the alts.

I don't think that the recent ETH pump is a sign of a coming altcoin season. Institutional investors could be interested in Ethereum, but I just don't see how they can be interested in shitcoins like bcash, bsv, any of those supposed "Ethereum killers", or some obscure coins. And retail investors are just following institutional investors right now. There's no "blockchain technology" hype this time, there is only Bitcoin the hedge against inflation hype.

BNB maybe or LTC. I can't afford BTC and ETH anymore.

^^Starting? I mean ethereum went up about 10 times in the past 1 year, what do you really want from an alt season? I get that some people want alt season and I like that too, but how do you consider 10x increase NOT alt season? All crypto currencies went up in the past 1 year, I love the return on investment I had so far and if it stops and drops right now, I would consider this last 1 year as the greatest year I had in all of crypto and I have been around longer than most people.

I would love to suggest you to take a look at any coin you want on coinmarketcap, open it up, check 1 year ago price and today's price and see what the situation is like, more often than not, except for a few rare ones, all coins have done AT LEAST 5x return this year. This is why I believe alt season has already started, and it is probably going to end soon, you reached the end, not the start.

I think it is not starting already, but ethereum show the power to increase and hit up to $1,000. It is a good sign for the other altcoin to growing as what ethereum did. We can hope that the altcoin season will start in the next week, so we will see what coins that can follow ethereum to increase to the high price. Watch your altcoins guys, hopefully, your coins can be the next coins that can increase.

Well Even XRP is Rising now does this mean Altcoin season is coming or starting ?  Grin

No kidding , Litecoin and Ethereum is Leading the Altcoin crusade to take that Season again , while Bitcoin is strongly dominating the market up to now.

The last altcoin season take Place because Bitcoin starts falling but the scenario now are far different from that .

So before the Altcoin finally had it's season is the Institutional investors and big companies invest on them as well .

I think a lot of Altcoins eventhough increasingly profiting from the Bitcoin price rise are still severly surpressed against btc value. They are basically at the bottom there and i do not see Altcoin Season happening, untill this starts changing for most of these Altcoins. In order to get this change to occur, i think Bitcoin price need to have a considerable correction (blow-off top, followed by a long period of finding the bottom, reconfirming the bottom, stabilizing its price). I think this correction will only occur, when Bitcoin reach a higher RSI on the monthly charts, higher then its current RSI 86.26

I suspect RSI to grow max 10 percentage points (86-96), before that Bitcoin price correction / price blow-off top starts materializing on the monthly chart.

Source : tradingview.com

I think that will start a diversification process from Bitcoin whales towards Altcoins, ultimately triggering an Altcoin Season. Current RSI of Bitcoin price is close to previous large corrections,
but is not there yet. The higher that RSI gets, the higher the risk of a severe correction occurring. Always remember with every pump comes a dump and the higher the pump, the higher the dump.
Just looking at the % Down from ATH, for most Altcoins there is still immense potential for explosive price growth :

In my opinion it did but not as big as before, obviously the late 2020 period we see the mass growth of altcoins and now I think it is coming again, maybe i think that there will be more waves of altcoins but will go with the price of bitcoin.

Theres already altcoin season this year already though it was not like 2017 where the major investors are the regular enthusiast but this current bullish market major investors are the institutions and some private bodies and their main focus/investment are on Bitcoin. But my other alts? They are in a "coma" right now.
I could not even sell them for they are like dust that would not even help me to buy another.

I don't think there will be that kind of season.
Even with trying the reverse psychology to myself.  Grin

I am just not sure if that applies to crypto as well  Undecided

No way...  It’s all about the destination as far as trading crypto is concerned.  We want the most reward with minimum effort as much as possible.  Grin

But you just couldn’t tell with some people tho.  Lol.

For the lulz.

The question is "Is there really an Altcoin season"?

Many post i have crossed this forum but yet answers are not certain , Because for Me there is no really altcoin season but rather than "Altcoin Manipulation"

Because if there is a season of Progress and growth and Only bitcoin has this capacity.

The Bitcoin dominance dropped 4(four) percent in just two days without losing much value! Maybe finally is the alt season Cheesy

It might just be true. 45% for ETH and then there is UNI with 68% and also Aave with 45% as well, the whales must be scalping for altcoins too. These are the tokens that seem popular already on Defi. Not all altcoins however are going up. 68% dominance is still huge. In a day or two, it will be back to more than 70%. Grayscale just sold their altcoin holdings for BTC.

We have been waiting for this for too long, while Bitcoin continues to rise. Bitcoin dominance continues to strengthen and it is quite difficult for Altcoins to get a chance. This year is a big hope for the Altcoin season. We have to be patient!

At that moment when we think we're out...  BTC pulls us back in.

BTC...  You know, just here to spoil the party again everytime alts start to break out and trend up.  -_-

although I am not sure, but the best altcoin number 2 (Etherium) is already making a big move, whether it can trigger for the altseason no one knows ..
Hopefully we can take a look back at this year's altseason that crypto users have been waiting for.

Altcoins have been incredibly good for the past two days. Bitcoin remained low. There may be big whale movements.
We are seeing profit sales in Bitcoin followed by an altcoin rally. Smart traders earn very good money  Undecided

But I am also wondering if we will ever see an altseason like 2017/18. This bullrun is driven more by large institutional investors and they seem to be mostly interested in top cryptos, like Bitcoin or Ethereum. I doubt that they know any coin outside the top 20 MC.
If you are expecting to see shitcoins spike in prices like you saw back in 2017-2018 then I feel sorry for you. It's not gonna happen. With the lessons learned during the 2018 bear market, Some people are now smart, and they know where to put their money.

Look at what happened to ETH today, you would expect ERC20 tokens to spike as well in price but this was not the case. I think what made altcoins have a great season in 2017 was because of the ICO hype which isn't the case this time round. Even the DeFi hype isn't anywhere close to what we saw that year.

I didn't say I expect such crazy shitcoin pumps as in 2017/18. But I think most people still think an alt season means every shitcoin besides Bitcoin pumps. As I said, I also think this time it's different. Since it's not average people fomoing into crypto but rather "smart" institutional investors that drive the price this time we will probably only see realy gains for top altcoins, heck maybe even only for ETH.

Usualy alt season will come after bitcoin bullrun, when bitcoin bullish season finish many people will move their money in to altcoin. Big whale also playing in this phase to grab more bitcoin from retail investor. So always be carefull to Alt which does not have fundamental uses case.

It looks like we all be like the skeleton - the Bitcoin dominance crossed 71+%.

We currently have two profitable choices - keeping Bitcoins or investing in decent, but new projects, as keeping other alts is not profitable than Bitcoin holdings.
