why is BTC going down so much today? hanv't seen any really bad news

thanks in advance

Someone mentioned that the USA tax man is classifying crypto as taxable, but I'm nor certain and the details are unclear. There were two people on here arguing about two different interpretations of some new guidance from the tax man. Or maybe there is some other bad news I have not heard yet.

I did see the the IRS will classify crypto as property rater than currency so think capital gains/losses type of thing.

You should probably check out the other boards on this forum. Anyhow, there are two main stories right now: the IRS ruling on crypto-currencies (not just bitcoin) and the news from Caixin about the PBOC shutting down the accounts of 10 exchanges in China.

Yes, I think it's common knowledge by now that when BTC crashes, so do altcoins. After all, during a crash the BTC pool for altcoins to play with greatly shrinks. How fun right?

I'm will be transferring £20k tomorrow to buy BTC. Hope it stays low enough to buy more. Outside of BTC I only have faith in LTC and VTC.

congrats man! we all waited to read that valuable information

I'm an atheist, however I'm still preying for a huge crash tomorrow. Buy when people are selling, sell when people are buying.

FYI, I only have £10k invested at present, but I have always liked to gamble.

So when BTC rises do altcoins double rise also?  I haven't checked any numbers, just wondering.

Not necessarily. The equivalent exchange of alt/btc will be worth the same/more/less but that end amount of btc is worth more in $$$. So the answer is yes and no.  If your lucky btc, ltc, and alt will appreciate creating huge profit potential. For example IFC/LTC market from last summer to about jan/dec timeframe. BTC was worth $100, LTC $2-3 and IFC about 10-20 liteoshi. Do the math that's a huge reward with vary little risk, investment didn't even have to be big to make significant money. And, all in about 6 months.

To put all this in perspective I literally forgot about 10 mill ifc that ended up being worth $1,000 in December.

thanks in advance

There were some unconfirmed rumors earlier today that China would separate bitcoin exchanges from bank accounts, but these allegations were false: http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/21h70d/china_bitcoin_exchanges_huobi_said_they_have/

Thanks for letting us know. There seems to have been a lot of misinformation about China and bitcoin over the last week.

The stock market sometimes has microcrashes when everything plummets, then quickly rises back to normal. Sometimes bitcoin seems to do something similar after bad news. Maybe things will bounce back, but there is no guarantee.

I think it will soon go up again. Just like euronext and others. There are always ups and downs.

Bitcoin is very far from crashing at this moment.

Still.

What will the future bring?
