any windows.

Not technically correct - I've never used null plugs, and mine on 4 different machines running Windows 7 and 8.

you are logged in remotely to a headless windows box???
Ya I just have TightVNC Server running on there and I use VNC to connect to it if I need to do anything.

You probably wanna give RDP or FreeNX a try, the difference is enormous compared to VNC.
AFAIK it is also possible to have seamless mode, hence only have the remote miner window on your desktop

Basically like the title states. What OS or setups require the plugs for multi cvard systems to work?

WIndows 7 x64 Ultimate with 7970s needs the plug or kvm.

Not true. 2x 7970 was running fine on Win 7 and Linux with no plugs. Logged in from remote through teamviewer.

Seriously dummy plugs are something of 5 years ago. All recent drivers/OS's have fixed this.

I'm running 2x 7950's using the 12.8 drivers on Windows 7 x64 and nothing plugged into the GPU's.

Probably RDP. I have a couple of virtual windows systems running headless on a server without gui, so remote login is the only choice. (not related to mining though)

Can anyone confirm that you do or don't need them on windows 8?

You don't need them on older driver versions too (win7 64) but I am not sure about the 7xxx series. 5xxx and 6xxx worked without dummy plugs for me with drivers ver between 11.6 and 12-something (but I did need them before 11.6)

of course it was never a problem on linux Smiley

I don't think you need null plugs for Windows 8. I've mined just fine without them. But null plugs are honestly not a big deal. You can get a pack of 5 resistors at Radio Shack for something like $1.50 and just plug 3 of them into the DVI/VGA port.
Thanks for the info. Got somen parts coming in and getting ready to play with first rig heh  Grin
