Handing out merit is fucking hard dude, I go on a roll end up giving members plus a load but really struggle sifting the wheat from the chaff with the newbies and its a real shame

Newbies and Junior Members are the future lifeblood of the forum, so I believe it is important to encourage them to become valuable members, and not just spongers trying to scratch a bit of money by exploiting the forum. I think it is important to help to re-build the boards as well. I've started to look at the Serious discussion and Ivory Tower boards. I think they have great potential if members supported them a bit more.

When we can contribute to the forum then we are entitled to get a level increase. We must continue to strive to create quality posts and also useful. We will get results according to what we do. Believe that people who will succeed are those who are passionate about doing things.

why bump a thread that is over a month old? it had died.. you obviously want merits and wont get any behaving like that.

Big bumpers are great on girls, but they are annoying on the boards. Bumping old threads with useless comments is one of my pet peeves, so I've put him on ignore. I've still got merit to award, so he's lost out on the chance of getting any future merit from me.

I do really want merits for me to level up but then I dont worry about it to much because I cant do nothing about it.  What I did was made my post very clear and relevant to the topic at handand leave the merits to people out there.

When do YOU think you will stop creating useless threads?

Unfortunately people seem to be endlessly creating threads with no rhyme or reason in Meta due to two reasons from what I have noticed

  • Meta is a massive giveaway of merit: The entire merit distribution analysis done by someone here (I forgot the person and have lost the link to the thread) clearly showed that Meta posts do tend to get more merit than your average post in other forums
  • To get merit from the "dissenters". Merits currently are being largely used as a tool to "support" your point rather than to give credit to good posts. "If someone makes a statement favouring what you personally support then you give them merit" <-- Logic of many people here

Well in the end it'll be a while before the constant "merit spam" will end in Meta

Well, my strategy is don't worry about merits.

Just a single line yet it already has a big impact and is on point. Ever since the merit system was established, most of the members here are just on the "hunt" to get those merits to rank up. Little do they know is that these merit points shouldn't be given much priority as the reason for this forum is to share opinions and informations and not collect merits. I also think that if you're doing your part as a responsible member of this forum by being constructive and you know that for yourself, then the merit system should not matter. It's just for recognition anyway. My point here is that, the merit system shouldn't be that big of a deal since we are somehow obligated to write constructively in this forum to allow easy understanding and comprehension from one member to another. The merit system is just a bonus, a reminder that you're doing a good job. What should be given more focus on is learning from this forum and enlighting others as well.

I do not know if I'll ever rise in ranking. At least not in the time I planned. The point is that I do not seek the merit in farms nor intend to buy them. And people still use merit only for really extraordinary posts. Or use it between your friends and acquaintances. Or use in schemes.

People who are on the forum just to use it as a free discussion platform on cryptocurrency in the same way as any other forum is on other subjects will find great difficulties to conquer merit.

I'm not complaining about the system and I think something like this was really necessary. I just do not know if I can get those merits. So I must satisfy myself with what I have at the moment as a full member.

If the situation continues on what it is :
1.will be Member after 2 months.
2. will be Fullmember after 6 months.
3. will be Srmember after 2 years.
4. will never be hero/Legendary member.

In the beginning when merit system was implemented , I was seeing a lot of posts being rewarded but it has slowed down now. Based on current situation, I expect to be a member after 50-60 posts. It may happen earlier if I show some creativity and make some thread here like :

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/list-suspected-users-that-are-abusing-merit-30-2896910

I am not doing this currently because such a post requires the member to remain active and respond to all submissions. My current offline work schedule does not allow me to do that. Overall , I am content with my performance here so far.

It will surely take more than than with the old rules, so what? Who says that the time necessary to advance in rank must be the same for everyone? This is not what happens in life. In life you need some merit to advance in rank. Now Bitcointalk is more resembling the mechanisms of life, something that in the end can only be good. Cruel for sure - just like life. But all things considered - good. Like life.

I don't think I need to level up, I think I'm pretty level headed already. However, Merit points do help me to determine if I am correct, or if I have a warped attitude towards life, or Bitcoin anyway. Smiley

I think I wouldn't receive enough merits to level up until the time I'd have enough activity and that doesn't bother me at all. I think it's a fair sacrifice for improved posts quality on this forum. Too bad it won't get rid of another informational noise source - Twitter reports in bounty threads. But maybe someday they'll be forbidden. At least I hope so.

Well, my strategy is don't worry about merits. We don't here for just to increase our ranks. We should stay here for learning about crypto currency. If we know something special which is valuable for others we should share to them.Merit is just a number which help to increase rank.

IMO is if we have believe in ourself that we do quality posts then we shouldn't be worry about merits. Some trusted members are still their to give you reward for excellent posts.

Good attitude bro, I’ll throw a Merit point your way for this.

I want to start off by saying that I think the merit system is having some good results on the forums.  I have noticed that post qualities have certainly improved.  This is mainly an exercise in collecting a mass perception polling and only applies to YOU on a self evaluation level.  What you think your quality of posts deserving of merits is vs what reality will eventually be.  When do YOU think you will earn enough merits for your next level, whenever that may be.  For me, I kinda want to pose this experiment from a behavioral perspective to see if this might be a self fulfilling prophecy as well.  So please guess and come back to update this thread when you have enough merits to rank up.  Thanks.
