How do you decide when to sell? What tell you that the rise is over and there is about to be a drop? I keep selling too soon and while I'm not losing money, I could be doing way better. I'd appreciate any advice

I am still learning, but I've learned to not be greedy. For a day trades (because I am building my capital), I am targeting to get ~3% profit, doing a lot of such transactions, setting waiting window for 4-10 hours (depends). When in this period currency is falling below lets say 1% (3/1 ratio) I am selling, but you must realise that it can be short fall, it is hard to find out and it is mostly gambling. My goal is to get 50-100% return in month time. This way I am always with profit. 2% is minimum because of fees.
And it doesn't matter if ico will raise 1500% later, cause it is 50/50 chance, you will never know, many 2-4% earnings are good enough.

What you're doing is a good idea. You're minimizing the risks on your profit. But also your minimizing the chance of your cryptocurrency to gain more profit. But that's fine. You will be able to gain profit securely through your current method. But taking risks can also be helpful Who knows, maybe one day if you try to hold that coin for a while and the rate got high, then you can hit the jackpot through that. It will also lessen your regrets of selling to early before the price got significantly high, if you only have one. Still your choice, its your money anyways

If you have access to a really more or less accurate technical assistance and charting, then will probably be having a target price. The target price is going to be your ceiling. But in the absence of all these, I think you better be safe rather than sorry. If the increase happens and you think you are already having some gain, then it is better to pull it out.

You are lucky that you can able to sell out and you are not losing money which this kind of way is short trading buying on low and sell high on a short period of time which some traders do really do. This kind of technique or trading way do somehow need some technical analysis on which the same as im doing now, i do make use of technical tools which it somehow gives me an idea on when to sell but it doesnt work anytime but there are times that they are effective.

Theres been times Ive sold coins for double the profit and woke up to see that I could of made 9 times the profit. Not a good feeling  Undecided

This is what I'm trying to avoid. You are correct that I should feel fine with the double profit. Yet when this happens... I don't know how to describe the feeling. It's shitty. Definitely need to work on conquing my emotions in this trade

For long term, I sometimes check the biggest holders' wallet if they withdraw their coins or not, for short term candlestick analysis might be beneficial.

this is very wrong. there is no selling too soon in altcoin market. you always set a certain percentage profit for yourself and then sell at that price. very simple. and take that profit and never regret anything. this is called a successful trader.

the important part is setting that percentage profit. for some altcoins it can be 20% for some others it can be up to 200%. and when you sell at that 20% or 200% and it goes higher like 25% or 210% respectively you shouldn't really regret anything. you still have got a big nice profit.

Be patient and wait, nowadays, bitcoin is going up too fast, it is affecting all other altcoin, they have to go down, just wait until everything stabilizes, i Believe that you will sell for a good price.

YEs the bitcoin rally is definitely sucking the life out of some of the good altcoins. But that is good as it makes for buying opportunities.

In investing we need to conquer our emotions and act on a purely logical data driven basis.

As a noob, yore destined to try day trading and lose a lot of money in the act. Ive learned that certain pumps happen due to news and speculation, study that coin, social media etc and see why the price is going up. If its pure pump then give it a few hours and see how the buys look. Theres been times Ive sold coins for double the profit and woke up to see that I could of made 9 times the profit. I have not even considered selling as I picked projects I loved and believe we are way to early into this revolution to bail out.  We got decades to go.

This! It needs time to evolve.

Better to buy at low price and sell it at least price recover. When to sell depends on your needs. If you depend on trading to fulfill your basic needs, surely you need an income soon. If the price of a coin suddenly drops and if it will take long time to raise the price, you will lose the chance at that time. But if you study the market, you can predict what will happen in the future somewhat. Therefore, read about the coin before you invest in it.

How do you guys decide when to buy? I was an idiot and bought into SIGT and BCH at what appears to be there peak. Whoops. How do you guys track when to sell with changing BTC prices, do you have a spreadsheet that you can input a BTC price and it'll calculate a sell price to breakeven?

You can never be 100% certain of the correct time to sell. What I would advise is to keep a record of all your trades and constantly analyse them to find room for improvement. Having said that if you are not losing money you are certainly passing the first rule of investing.
In trading there is always a risks and analyze when it is the right time to sell. Yes there is no correct time when to sell but one thing is for sure when the price is high you can sell by that way you earned profit already. Also it depends how you manage you have because you can sell it for short term or long term investment.

Better to sell quickly when prices continue to rise, because the price is sometimes decreased.
The price is often up and down without any prior notice, so we have to quickly sell it
That's right, and the important thing is always active online and diligent updated the information when the good price to do sell but should stay in control do not rush, thks

We can sell if the price comes up and raise sell area, so you must analyze and decides your sell area depend your strategy. Second, when stop loss reached, like or not sell it. Only those condition we can sell it, others condition I'll say no ( disciplines ). But everyone has their own reason and perhaps mine is not the same. Your money your call, hope you'll find the right price and time to sell. Good luck.

I will sell if the price of my portfolio gets pumped and buy again until all of the coins get plunged, Just looking at the chart of the coin and you will be able to see a clue about the upcoming dump or similar with that. That was so easy to try.

You set a goal for yourself you when you buy. Things can always change, but if your goal was 20%, then sell a chunk and keep some for a possible moon shot. I always scale my sells some at 20%, some at 35% and then keep a few coins for that occasional 3-10X that comes around.

It takes experience and patience for this, in the world of profit and loss trading is common, you must know it. So in my opinion, you better read a lot of trading post and try to analyze.

When to sell you ask? If we're talking altcoins, I'd say about 8 weeks before the market looks like this.
Can't make the same case for BTC though, let's enjoy the 4k

It will vary from person to person but for me, I will sell when I already got good return from my initial investment. Then waiting for the price to go down to pick the best time to buy it again.

I will let the profit to run, because I don't know exactly when to sell.

selling will depend if how you trust your investment if you are for long term you can hold maybe for 2-3 years but if you love playing short
better to sell when you already have 20% earnings then try to short again for much lesser value wait for some corrections and hold again.
It is good to keep the one that is winning like ETH and NEO, I would always sell the losing one to cut loss, because it is very difficult to buy a winning investment, but it is easier to sell it, after I had sold it it will usually go higher and higher, and I will had a difficult time to buy it back at higher price.

When to short is the hardest to learn I think, even the seasoned traders are having a hard time unless they wait for someone else who did the first and you see the price starts to dip, you might wanna sell too.  The problem with such strategy is that, you never knew someone is just waiting for the price to dip a bit so they could buy thousands which will make the price spike making it hard for you to find an entry.

When the price keeps on increasing that time, you must watch the flow of chart. When it starts to come down, you can sell your coins and make money. Becasue after increasing one point any coin price come down. If you want to see the same price you need to wait for some time. See 1 month back the BTC price went up to $3000 and came down to $1800, and we waited 1 month to reach that price again. So whenever you feel the price is high sell it doesn't ask anyone suggestion.

There is no something that tells you when to do what. If there is wouldn't just everyone be rich ? If you hold specific coin you want to follow news, dev team etc... Price usually rise when something new comes up about the coin and someone invests. Also that is not the rule as anyone can invest at anytime and just increase the price. Price falls when investors sell, everyone this peak will be at different time, so price might be going up and then decrease 5-10% because of people that sell because they think it's the peak and repeat... To summarize no one knows what the price will be in future, and is the current price peak for some coin Smiley
