History shows us that the most influential thing to the price of bitcoin is the adrupt halving schedule when the block reward is cut in half, it has a huge effect on the supply/demand of bitcoin.

If you look back in 2016 the thing that kept the late rally of 2015 going was the halving that happened in July 2016, see below how the halving led to 2 subsequent rallies.

https://www.coindesk.com/bitcoin-halving-2016-will-price-rise-fall/

It's extremely important to realize the scarcity built into bitcoin and how it reflects digital gold, once you understand this you can hold with confidence even at huge losses because you know that alot later, years later, the price will be much higher.

Keep an eye on when the next halving will be (2020):
https://www.bitcoinblockhalf.com/

But also keep in mind that good news could come out too that could really make the price go parabolic.

Ah, another newbie asking a question that nobody can't answer. I understand your frustrations your disappointed, and who wouldn't be? we put lots of money in the market and then suddenly it went on bearish trend. Question though, did you invest want you can afford to lose? If your answer is Yes, then no need to wait for a bull run because you are not losing your money if you are not selling.

But if you invest and hoping to get rich quick, then sorry to burst the bubble, your are in the wrong market. No one can tell you when will Bull runs starts because if you just look at the current sentiments, we are struggling. So it might be next month or next year. I suggest you just stay with the market and wait till the bull run happens.

OP just asked in general when do people think the next bull run in bitcoin will start, not your opinion on whether or not you think he is a newb and if he invested more than he is willing to lose, how about next time you actually give an educated response to his post instead of just rambling about stuff he/she already knows and make them feel worse about their loss.

The thing with the halving is, it is always a very hyped event and naturally one that will raise the price as it is a guaranteed decrease in inflation of the supply, and since it is something that we can guesstimate, people may try to take a move before the next guy because of how market psychology works.

This can lead into a chain reaction which would make this pump start and potentially peak up to a month or more ahead of the actual event, which could lead to a crash by and by the time actual event happens (so a typical sell the news situation), that could mark the end of the crash and the start of the next bull run. Just have that on mind because you may need to plan ahead if you want to risk trading. Personally I may not even bother and just keep holding. Just thinking about going to fiat will lead to having to get ready endless paperwork for taxes and so on which I have no idea how to manage so I would need to pay an accountant... I don't have time for that.

When will the bull run start? Huh in 2018? i've lose a lot of money through bitcoin. because price went down. when will the bull run start and i regain my money?

I think that the most likely outcome would probably be that we'll see a resurgence of bitcoin prices in 2020-2021.

A full recovery does seem unlikely at the moment considering that the markets are showing no signs of a trend reversal yet due to the fact that we don't even know whether or not we've bottomed out yet.

Thus, don't expect to see any gains in the short term at any time soon. I believe that the best strategy in terms of investment in bitcoin right now is accumulate moderately, and not expecting short term profits. If you do invest, expect to have to hold for a long time before your profits are realised. I still think that we'll probably dip a bit further from this price level currently.

I think November is more realistic.
Right now people are getting back from their vacations, kids are starting school soon, the work is getting busy again and all that.

As soon as people get back to work decently and start that rush times once again and the important deals are getting closer the reality of summer ending and work calendar starting will come to mind and I think more people will start going back to bitcoin and focusing on that like a hobby.

I believe we should definitely not throw away the idea that last year November was the time bull run started but I am definitely sure autumn will be the season that bitcoin gets back on its feet.

Maybe the bull run gets initiated from the falling month as the fourth quarter of the year begins. Another thing the etf approval has got postponed to the end of September. This too could make a difference over the market scenario prevailing around. Expect good growth same as the previous year.

Market bottomed in January 2015. Then it went sideways until October when bull run started.

Sort of. Another way of looking at it is a double bottom. Bitfinex had much higher volume than other exchanges and hit bottom in August ($162). A lot of people cite Bitstamp's January lows, but it was (and is) a much less liquid exchange than Bitfinex.

2014 bear market was longer then wil be now from simple fact that bull market of 2013 was stronger then 2017. You had sort of 2 bull runs in 2013. in April and November.

That's possible. I'm just trying to keep an open mind and not make any major assumptions. My belief is that every cycle will look different (in terms of both time and volatility). For now, I'm just waiting for the market to establish a new mid-term trend. Then I'll ride it.

As soon as there is a chance of making a decent amount of money with a huge run, right now there are so many people who would like to sell their coins at say 8-10 thousand dollar levels that if you want to go thru those prices you will be required to have a lot of money and if you want to reach to $20k once again you will have to buy a lot of bitcoin and require a capital at a size of a small nations GDP.

Hence, if that goes away and we can chip at it small by small than there is a chance but in order to get the whales on our side we need to make sure they know they will make more money if the price goes up.

In the past, the price starts to go up during November and continues until early period of the next year. I hope the same thing happens this year, I am looking forward for the bull run in November.

The market right now is currently bullish, and it was volatile so the best thing to do is to wait for the price to pump up before selling your coins.

I think from New Year it will be big expectation that SEC will approve ETF so that will cause
bull run
Meanwhile in September we will have important EU meeting about ICO regulation
IF all 28 EU countries will agree we will have quality licensed ico
If world will follow than it could be really big change less ico but licensed ones

I am not sure that bullrun will happen in the current year, this market is still in a non-conducive atmosphere, indeed recovery has occurred even though it was not large but in a matter of hours the decline occurred again, this situation was very fast and often happened.
I really hope that this kind of situation will be over soon, even with a short period of time but I will wait for it

You had loose a lot of money and will loose a lot more if you dont know how to play your csrds in cryptocurrency. If the price is down i usually hold and wait for the moment. Some will easily sell and some will complain and some waits for the greenier days thats how it goes here in the crypto world.

Be patient and wait, nobody can't tell when Bull market starts, because no one knows it. If peoples could know how market will move, everybody would have been a millionaire for a long time. Like i said before, all you can do now is just be patient.

Op, you can only lose your money when you sell at the current market value of Bitcoin, but if you continue holding, i believe some day to come the market value of Bitcoin and other altcoins will bounce back from the downward movement at the moment.

The main difference between the current and 2014/2015 bear market is that right now we don't have MtGox to worry about. I'm certain that if MtGox didn't collapse back then, the low in 2015 would be far above $150.

why?

people drastically overestimate the importance of mt gox. i was part of multiple trading communities, and pretty much everyone had aready moved to bitfinex, bitstamp, btc-e/mt4, chinese exchanges (okcoin, huobi, btcc). most traders left because gox had already been having fiat withdrawal delays for many months.

they had far less share of world trading volume than people say. the scope of the BTC losses were due more to gox being used as a massive online wallet. and remember, the gox collapse locked up lots of available supply. everyone who lost coins had to buy back whatever they could.

MtGox gave the bear market extra fuel to keep thriving, which looking back, was the best ever "recent" buying opportunity. I don't think think we have to wait another year to fully bottom out.

i dunno. gox collapsed in february 2014. the market bottomed in august 2015. i really don't think it fueled the bear market for 1.5 years. that was just post-bubble supply and distribution. the same thing is possible now.

Expecting the bull run to start this month. Really waited and waited for almost 8 to 9 months for the price to go high. The circulation has completely stopped. Frozen now. One or the other has to leave their coins out. The circulation of coins should soon start up with high values. We really require the situation to take place very soon.  This month has to be a turning month for crypto this year. The value has to come back on track. Expect this to happen very soon.

I don't think think we have to wait another year to fully bottom out.

My read on overall sentiment is that people are still too hopeful for a bull market to emerge yet. I'm also worried the bear market could take quite a bit longer based on the historical BETI. Based on the 2011 and 2014-2015 corrections, we could drop a lot further:

And this will be the historical BETI chart using absolutely all the BTC/USD entries in bitcoincharts.com since Sunday, 25 April 2010 16:37:04 till today:

Of course, the BETI is comprised of a very small data set, so we should take it with a grain of salt. Cycle analysis is tough when we only have a few bubble cycles to study.

My prediction will occur at the end of the year between November and December, it will not go up too far but this will make our assets come back. Almost the beginning of the year to mid in 2018 the prices are so fariative, the increase and decrease are so fast and we can only wait for the results later in the year.

You must know that no one knows the answer to that, we can only speculate but most likely the bull market is not going to start in this year, it is terrible that you are losing money but the market is not going to start a Bull Run just so you can recover your money, and I will suggest that you change the way you think because if you keep thinking like that you are going to lose even more money.

2013 Bubble #1 was from 50 to 250, with subsequent crash down to 55ish.  April.  Build of base/support in the 100-120 area until 2013 Bubble #2 in November from 120 to 1100.
I remember that people thought the first bubble in 2013 was solely initiated by people in Cyprus buying Bitcoin like there was no tomorrow. I however doubt people in Cyprus had anything to do with it.

I give a low probability chance of a double bubble, like in 2013, but that would need to happen by this December.

I was there in 2013 doing some mining and I dont remember the term double bubble ?    Sure there was a rise in the spring and then it peaked end of year, so thats similar to 2017 isnt it where we fell back a bit end summer to autumn perhaps then really picked up into December.

It would be nice if there's actually a way to determine when a bull run would start but it's beyond us. That's why it's important to properly manage your expectations when you enter this market to avoid losing a lot and not expect any bull runs to happen on a certain time.

How can you make such tiny chances options? Like 2 months out of 2 years?  Why?  I dont understand your motives behind this. Why you ruined your own pool.

Anyway, the bull run will start in Spring 2019.

We never know. The market is unpredictable. Don't you think if everyone knew when the "bull" run will start, everything would actually end up different? Everyone would jump on board assuming the bull run will start, and thus cause the run to start earlier than expected. You didn't lose anything, you still have the same amount of the BTC you were holding. Keep holding and the price might recover anytime soon.

My opinion will not surely change that we can not get a bull run this year, Although the price can have a rise in value but not a sudden one in particular in a bull run, And as for the bull run nobody can pinpoint the exact date, year, and when can it be, A speculation related in the recent movement was the only option available to pinpoint when it can occur, And there are still a sudden change in the movement for the price because of some negative news or a correction may occur from time to time so these speculation was not exact it is still the source of info when the next pump or dump may occur.

So 2018 has seen Dollar not falling like in 2017, its kinda flat maybe rising some and BTC has mostly unwound and theres little reason to think BTC will regain all its losses in this year.      However this is not at all gloomy, over the year time frame and view BTC is a gainer and seems quite positive overall in that sense.

To be 'bullish' as in 2017 gains then no, that was not a normal market and I'm not sure its even a good thing for BTC to gain that much as it unsettles the market and causes trouble to act like a rollercoaster.   If we stay just flat for 2017 it'd be quite positive, I'm bullish on that idea.   A flat market will likely benefit the mechanics and framework behind BTC, development will continue and we see further gains in future years.    I call that a bullish scenario even if outright price goes nowhere

You're not the only one that's dropping and is in lost, today.

We aren't so sure of it on when the market will start going to a bull run. Being concerned of your loss, pick more bitcoin and keep on adding to your stash so you can do something to counter the lost of the market. I'm into loss today but I know that it will be up someday, somehow.

No matter how good the technical analysis that will share here, all of that can't accurately tell when is that freaking bull again will start again. The moment you enter crypto you should understand that it does not how things work.

My best guess is 6 to 12 months before the next halving. I expect the low of this bear market to be 2-4k.  I base these of previous bitcoin cycles.  I give a low probability chance of a double bubble, like in 2013, but that would need to happen by this December.

The poll is quite limited but of the two choices I would vote September really.   However its never really that neat, the recent low for the price hit a weekly trend that while bearish now could form a floor to the price

To simplify the rate of decline for 2018 is actually below the current price.   We are overall in a price retraction but above the overall bearish trend that was evident for most of 2018.   Its not bullish news exactly but its the quiet voice of less worse price action and this can build possibly.  Nobody ever knows for sure.  Let me know if you want a trend chart but also I agree with the mention of halvening but thats a long way off and even in anticipation I wouldnt guess on it being in the price yet

Don't think that you'll see much bullish activity in the market until at least Q3 of next year, to be honest.

We're still unsure of whether or not we've hit bottom at the moment with sentiment in the market extremely negative still. As I've expected, the previous rally that some people took as the signal to a new bull market was in fact, a bull trap, with a sizable correction which happened yesterday.

Based off the most recent bear market of 2014, we've still got some time to go before markets will fully recover. I do think that right now is a great buying opportunity because of the cheap prices, but don't expect prices to be rising any time soon. In these circumstances, holding is always a better policy than panic dumping.

Uh, you only gave two options: this month or next month. I choose neither. It could take another year or two before things turn around.

Sorry your bags are feeling heavy, but this is that post-bubble pain that old timers try to tell people about. Most of us around here are very bullish on BTC's long term chart, but you've got to give it time.

Most people in pain like you will give up on BTC, sell at a loss and move on. By the time the next real bull run starts, they'll have forgotten about it. That's markets for ya. Wink

When will the bull run start? Huh in 2018? i've lose a lot of money through bitcoin. because price went down. when will the bull run start and i regain my money?

It will start when it wants to. Price going down now does not mean it would be like this forever. Trends change and there will always be a time for both bears and bulls to do their thing which for this year, the bears are hugely smiling.

If you understood the volatility before investing, by now you should not be bothered, unless of course you invested more than what you could afford to see go down hugely in the short term.

Just take a chill pill and know that no matter what, the market will at one point recover and what you should be targeting now is buying more at dips.

The same thing happened during last bear market. patience is the key. I hope you invested only what you can forget for a few years. I expect a big price point for bitcoin somewhere around 2022. Not so much for majority of the altcoins, so be careful when you pick them. Take gains that you can.
