I am not spending or selling while Bitcoin is going down. I'll just sit and wait to see Bitcoin raise and then I will enjoy my patience Smiley

If you are buying goods or services with BTC it is not necessarily a bad idea to spend while BTC is falling, because logically you can replace that same amount of BTC for a cheaper price.

I guess it would be Spend high, buy lower...

Why does everybody think that BTC will reach 10k$ in next big raise?

Agreed.  Why is everyone so bullish on bitcoin value compared to fiat rising?

Unless I'm missing something, there are only two factors that can go into value... how scarce something is, and how much fiat is pumped into it.  Over time, fewer coins will be mined so their value will increase, but this is a long tail.  People converting their fiat to bitcoin will make the value go up as well... but this seems to be more of a money market than anything else.  Discrepancies in value in a money market come about due to perceived value and volume of trading.

Well, they'll just get old and dusty if you don't take them out and clean them and lick them and love them sometimes.  J/K

But seriously, if you never spend them then you never really are using them for anything, right?  What's the point?

I don't understand why people say that they will "never" sell their coins. What is the point of buying them in the first place? Wouldn't this more or less mean that the money you spent on buying your coins pretty much goes down the drain if you are never going to spend/sell them?

they want to reach the point where bitcoin become mainstream, and you buy things directly with it(anything)

Looks like a decent number of people have decided to sell today.   I am still not selling any.   I actually won't sell any.   I would spend some though.  I guess it is a good time to spend BTC when prices are falling because you get more bang for your buck...

This thread gives me the same vibes as reading threads from 2010 when people had hundreds or thousands of coins and probably didn't expect them to hit more than $1 each in their wildest dreams. It's the product of a bygone era.

Not long ago, everyone and their mom thought that $10,000 bitcoin was a lock. These people already went "all in" and then just waited here for it to happen... but clearly the rest of the world failed to follow their lead. These uber-bullish threads from 2014 will read like a comedy gold mine in a couple years.

I read a lot of posts here about people hoping the price will hit $10000 or whatever and it got me thinking what is everybodys price that they will start to sell some of their coins.
How much would Btc have to be before you start selling?
I am not selling my BTC, just when the price is low I dont use it for buying things. I hate this thing in BTC sometimes when I liked something today and if I think a little to buy it price is already different and this sometimes making me not spend my BTC.

Just to re-frame this question a little bit since the bullish sentiment seems to be waning...

...at what price to you decide that you can't risk hodling any more and sell to get SOME of your fiat back?  $500?  $400?  $300? Lower?

For me, I'd ride it down close to zero, but my investment is a pretty small part of my portfolio.

I can only speak for myself, but I will never sell my coin. And you kind of answered your own question by adding something that the OP did not say: the word spend.  I won't sell my coin for fiat, but I WILL spend it one day.

Sell?

Don't you mean "spend"?

That nuance seems to be lost a lot of the time.

Yes i should have put that in OP, what i really mean is when will you start to use your coins, spend, sell or whatever you have planned. Lots of people are just hording its seems and i was interested what the fiat value of btc would have to be before they use their bitcoins.

Well, if we are talking about spending Bitcoins then I am already doing it. Not in any significant matter but I'm using it to buy some smaller stuff online.

I will sell when Satoshi sells. In other words, never.

AKA

I already sold... my worthless fiat in exchange for precious Bitcoin.

What will you do with your BTC then? Will you just keep them or spend them on earning more?
What will you do with your fiat? Will you just keep it or spend it? The answer is, I will do both. Save some, spend some, as one does with money.

I agree with this guy. I'm more interesting to spend bitcoin to buy some stuff than using fiat to buy some stuff  Tongue

If it drops to $1, then there is no need to sell the coins, they will worth a little even if you hold thousands of them

If it rise to $10K, then there is no need to sell them either, spending a little bit each year is enough to enjoy the life

If it stays at current level, I sell a bit to other people around me to spread the bitcoin awareness (of course I then buy back same amount or more from exchanges)

I gotta admit I've got several ways of selling BTCs when the price is going up (don't sell, when it's going down, if you ask me Wink) But one thing is for certain: You have to sell at some point. If you don't do this (or use the BTC to buy something), you are never profiting. People who only accumulate get nothing back from their investments!

Not if you have been accumulating for years, if you began on 2012 so you now must have tons of btcs.. so by selling only some bitcoins every month you have a great income.
And you dont have to sell them for fiat! now you can buy many things with btcs...

You don't need to get out of the game, if it gets to the point that everything that you buy (groceries, clothes, cars, etc) can be bought with BTC too.

I never said you need to 'get out of the game' I just said, you need to liquidate some of your BTC holdings or realize your profits. If you do this by selling the BTC for FIAT or buy bread and soy milk at the grocery story doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is that you'll never have a profit unless you realize it!

This is very true, don't stop at the closest stop; try to get as much out of something as you can. In this case, it means making your money (i.e. bitcoins) work for you. However, that comes with even more risk, but if you're in this scene, you know that there is already a lot of risk.

One common approach, and one that I adhere to, is a percentage/target based amount. So I have a pegged fund value that I have as a target for my current amount of bitcoins (in terms of USD since most of my investments are in USD). So when there is a rally, I will sell a portion so that my fiat value doesn't exceed my target amount (after factoring for accumulation and current short-term growth rates). It's worked well for me in the past and I don't plan on changing my approach any time soon.

It is questions like this that are the reason many early adopters sold at prices like $32, $100, $200, etc...

If you actually understand the purpose of Bitcoin then the answer is never.

If you are in Bitcoin just to make some quick money to cash out into fiat then you still don't 'get it'

I had less than one coin in my coinbase account and my wife needed money for something, so I cashed it out. other than that, i only cash my coin if I need it. Earlier in the year I purchased a car (badly needed) mostly got out of debt, so from now on I will only cash my btc if I absolutely have to. I cashed enough btc when it was close to the ATH and its sitting there for when I need to survive, pay bills, eat, etc. but when that runs out, ill sell my silver/cold then when that runs out, Ill got to my btc cold storage..

But, Ill sell when it hits 10k plus and then ill put it in traditional fiat investments. By then, Ill probably be old and just need the 5-8 percent to live... I may sell a little on the way up, like 10 percent when it hits 1k, 10 percent 2k and so on...

I would remake this as a poll if I were you. Personally, I think I'll sell some at $5000, but currently my plan is to hold for a long time.
Can i change this to poll now after it is posted?

Not as far as I know. I think you have to post a new thread.

I don't really plan on selling at all...I am in it for the long haul, unless some sort of emergency comes up and I desperately need the money.  I would maybe take a little profits off the table around $1500-$2000 though...

I will sell some bigger amount when they reach price over 1000$ because I want to pull out some of my investments but I am already doing fine with this price. But I will keep most of BTC I have for a long time.

I read a lot of posts here about people hoping the price will hit $10000 or whatever and it got me thinking what is everybodys price that they will start to sell some of their coins.
How much would Btc have to be before you start selling?
