thanks guys i got this sorted.

FYI probably just me being dense, but for anyone looking to do this you have to be VERY careful to make sure the resistors dont touch each other, i wasted half a day this weekend trying to figure out what is wrong with my computer when in fact it was because the adapter was shorted. Everything was working, then i moved my computer a little and it all stopped working, drove me nuts. Turns out when i moved the computer the adapter had a little bump and that caused the pin to touch each other and shorted it out.

Yeah, if you bought a card and it came with a DVI to VGA plug, a simple trip to Radio shack and $1 pack of 50-100 Ohm resistors will let you build one yourself in no time.

i use only 1 resistor in vga, in "1 and 6 " and it works
but as i know it works not on every card with 1 resistor

If you have a DVI>VGA adapter try using that before buying resistors.  Have 2 rigs running 5970s with 1 adapter in each and no resistors.

better yet, do the one 75 ohm resistor in the DVI port dummy plug trick..   less resistors ! Cheesy

I did it to all of my cards when I was running Windows, single resistor directly into DVI and some with single into DVI to mini displayport for eyefinity cards.

build them! google > vga dummy plug Smiley

just some real cheap 68/75ohm resistors needed

Yep, every radio shack in the U.S. sells 5-packs of 68 ohm resistors for 99 cents, which is two more than you need.

Simple guide:
http://www.overclock.net/folding-home-guides-tutorials/384733-30-second-dummy-plug.html

There's another method that works with only one resistor but it requires you stick the resistor directly in the DVI connector itself, which I wasn't really comfortable with...
