People dont need to have BCH if they want to talk about BCH, and it does not mean that someone is not qualified to talk about it just because they dont have it.
That's what distinguishes Altcoin discussion and Mining (Altcoins).
E.X: if you're talking about Win10, almost all recommend to activate the window update but in fact, this can affect the course of the mining rig, so almost all miners disable win update / manually update. I can't explain in detail here.

OP, you can try to open self-moderated topic in Altcoin discussion board and delete replies made by spammers. But it's very likely that your topic will be burried very soon, as spammers will just skip your topic. So, I think that best thing that you can - start thread in Serious discussion board if you want quality discussions.
Maybe it would be nice to to add more specific Altcoin boards like News, Beginners and help and etc. But it's likely that these new boards also will be occupied  and there are not enough mods in Altcoin board.

actually, if content news of altcoins can be posted in Altcoins Discussion but we knowing their section has been infected. also lately on Mining(altcoins), there is some post isn't substantial, impressed only to chase the amount of writing for the signature. They (miners) including me only smile if see their posts even though their posts make sense. We (miners) can tell which comments really have Rigs or just know from google without having Rigs  Grin Grin Grin

Well it is a kind of funny things to "pro", really, but if they make sense then at least they tried to make a conversation there i guess, and to be remembered, not all can have the rigs you have. People dont need to have BCH if they want to talk about BCH, and it does not mean that someone is not qualified to talk about it just because they dont have it.

For the OP, if you want to talk about great news about altcoin, maybe you can add like [SERIOUS] in front of your thread title and make sure you are self-moderating your own thread, although it will be a hard task to do i that board.

Why not put it on Serious Discussion?
Putting it here would be weird. Since we have an altcoin board, we should use it.

It's not weird if the OP wants a serious discussion (this is the impression I get from his post).

I can say the same: because we have a Serious Discussion board, we should use it.

There are some altcoin news that are good to discuss in the forum, like the news about Ethereum's postponement of the difficulty bomb and the decision to reduce the mining rewards to 2 ETH.

But the altcoin subforum is full of thread bumpers and makes it hard to discuss real news, and the press subforum deletes news that are not about bitcoin.

In any case, can the moderators of press be less strict and allow the more appropriate altcoin news?
I'm glad people have not forgotten the purpose of this forum. I feel like it was buried a while ago in the MeritTalk   Sad

I am also lurking around these forums as you can find a lot of good posts through the hundreds of spam posts but sadly, like you said, they get buried extremely fast if not instantly.

I think adding a new sub-forum called Altcoin News/Press would be a good idea. It will be similar to the Bitcoin Press sub-forum.

Although, I have seen this proposal multiple times in the past and nothing came out of it... If only someone would see it now...   Roll Eyes

Why not put it on Serious Discussion?

Hell no. That board isn't being moderated as strictly as it should. Not only is it just for bitcoin news but it's meant to be from notable sources only, not any old random crypto article from a blog site. That board has served its purpose in my opinion and should just be locked/archived or at the very least a thread stickied there noting that content has to be from notable non-crypto based sources only so that doesn't include CoinTelegraph and cryptocrapnews.net. If you want to post these things then they go in the alt coin board.
Just change the Press section to a kind of thread where you just can't gain more activity if you post there.
If the posts in the Press section won't count, spammers would not bother to post there (after they realize that the posts are not counted, and it needs some time of course...)

It's not activity they care about. It's post-count. As long as they can still get a +1 by posting in there then it will keep being spammed. As I've said numerous times before that board has served its purpose. It's now largely used just by sig spammers to get away with legalised copy and pasting. Anyone who wants to post an article can do so in the main board as many already do. I don't see any reason for the Press board to stay. It was created at a time when any news hit was in fact notable and exciting. Now it's not and we probably get mentioned every other day in some form of another, but I don't think we need a board to post an article from CoinTelegraph about some random guy that said bitcoin is bubble or is going to go to 1 million or John Mcaffee says he's going to eat his own dick if some random shitcoin he's been paid to promote doesn't go to a dollar. Pointless.

I still believe that the press section needs to be separated from Bitcoin discussion and it should include sources that proved to report correctly and in time not reporting what others said 10 days ago...
I think we need to move the press section to "other" for example and let it exclusively contains all the articles for both Bitcoin and altcoins in the whole forums.
For the moment, i always find duplicated topics inside it, news posted in bitcoin discussion (or rarely other boards) then reposted in the press section which isn't relevant and spammy.
People should visit bitcointalk-press to get various news
[BTC.][YYYY-MM-DD] News.
[ETH][YYYY-MM-DD] News.

Why should put on serious discussion ? How you know the news is really worthy and serious? Many fake news arround us. It will be cause of spam. On the other hand most of people don't know even serious discussion board. Most of people around Altcoin Discussion board. If posted there many people will able to read.

Didn't OP want a serious discussion about some news?

He's afraid to put it on Altcoin because there won't be any real discussion about the news he's going to share, in another word, he wanted to avoid spam fest. I doubt it will cause any spam if he put it on Serious Discussion, as spammer usually don't lurk there. On top of that, anything can be discussed including altcoin talk on that board (with few exceptions), so it won't break any rules.

He wanted to get some serious discussion with serious people, isn't he?

I believe that as a test we could have a subsection "altcoin - news" that would be restricted to only "full members" up.

That's too much work and quite unnecessary, there is no guarantee that people will post more about altcoin news. On top of that, it will be spammy at best, unless posting on that board doesn't count for your post count.

I believe it's belongs to Altcoin Discussion . Because if news about alt coin then obviously it's belongs to Altcoin Discussion board. Create extra board means more pressure for moderator.  Altcoin Discussion board is based on discuss about all kind of alt coin. It can be news , prediction , fork , suggestion about alt coin.

Why not put it on Serious Discussion?

I second that, I agree that the press section needs to be fairly moderate to avoid spammers and posts that are shitcoin's press release. But an exaggeration in this moderation makes it difficult to discuss news that is beneficial to the whole community.
