Does anyone know where the new hashrate came from?

It is difficult to even guess the exact amount but network hashrate went from 375PH to 445 PH in past 2-3 days, a 20% increase.

Un no, it did NOT go up anywhere near that high except perhaps on a normal "varies some in the VERY short term" peak.

that's 20% increase, if everyone of those big pool add a small % they can reach that am,ount easily, so my guess is that each of those pool added something, i doubt a signle entity added the whole 75 peta...

sorry that's not how math works.  if each pool added a small %, say 5%, then the overall hashrate would only go up by 5%.

and yes its unlikely one farm popped up with 75 ph

i mean a small % of the 75 ph not their hashrate, if everyone add let's say 1/15 of those 75, which is 5 then you have those 75ph added, that's is obvious which is 20% more of the total hash

The hashrate spikes up and down all the time. Its a very slow and lagging indicator.

The price of BTC went up, some many Antminer S1 and older machines were probably switched back on!

It is difficult to even guess the exact amount but network hashrate went from 375PH to 445 PH in past 2-3 days, a 20% increase.  looking at the pool stats on blockchain info shows antpool being at 20% for both past 24 hrs and 4 days.  When you look at antpools stats on their website it shows thier hashrate staying around 75PH, minus a hour hr bump up to 80 maybe once/day and a drop to 60 PH for 4 to 5 hrs every couple days.  but basically it looks like their 24 and 4 day average should be 75PH +/-3PH.  According to blockchain.info antpool should have also had a 20% increase but did not.

I know blockchain.info is not very accurate, but how do you determine who added the new hashrate??  That big of an increase should be easy to find.

144 is normal blocks in a day.  158 blocks is about 10 percent or 37 ph

172 blocks is twenty percent  or 74 ph.  But one day equals good luck. Two days equals better luck . Two weeks equals a true twenty percent jump. We have gone about a year since twenty percent diff jump has happened.

Sometimes everyone gets lucky around the same time

So the hashrate calculation is based on how fast blocks are being solved?
That's exactly how it's calculated.  The network itself has no concept of hash rate - it extrapolates the data based on block solves and current difficulty.  It's also why the network waits 2016 blocks to adjust difficulty in order to give itself a relatively accurate representation of hash.

As far as I know, yes, that is where most of the estimates come from.

It may very well be variance. As always, wait a few days to confirm an actual large increase in hashrate. There wasn't an 80-100PH increase on July 6, for example. Sometimes everyone gets lucky around the same time.  http://www.coinwarz.com/network-hashrate-charts/bitcoin-network-hashrate-chart

I am hoping it is showing a little high.... that would be a big increase.    There are 5 percent on blockchain that are "unknown".  One of them is 4 percent.

So who ever it is could have set up a pool and be in the 4 percent unknown if they don't want to be known.  But that is still not the 20 percent.... so not sure what to think.
