It is a bit stupid, but many of them does not have to buy emails from icos. A lot of icos have opened spreadsheet with whole users info. So you should be careful. I recommend to use at least two emails.(One personal and one for these means)

Have you ever seen sites where you can buy mail addresses? or is it just in the "dark web" ?
Internet is full of websites which are selling email databases and it's not only on dark web. Just enter words 'email database for sale'' and you will see lot of results. And month ago many Bitcointalk users got such message to their email:
Quote
Hello,

I sell an e-mail database of Bitcointalk forum users.

Quantity of unique e-mails: 543,690
63,000 users from parsing and
492,000 users from the dump purchased on DarkNet.

The database is not fake, you can check it by doing the following:
1. Find any e-mail on any Bitcointalk page
2. Tell me first three characters of that e-mail
3. I send you all e-mails from my database that begin with these characters

The price of the database is 1 BTC.

This database can be used to involve new investors in ICO projects and find partners for any crypto-currency business.

If you are interested, do not hesitate to contact me.

So, these who want, easily can try to buy these databases without searching through dark web. But it's big chance of being scammed by buying such things.

I noticed huge increase of spam email messages received. I shouldn't be surprised, because my email is public and I'm not trying to hide it. To be exact, I'm using thus email for various unclear registrations to keep my main inbox clean.
I also suspect ICO's maybe some of them are selling their investors emails databases. And offcourse - hackers. I don't know much about methods, how they collect these databases. Maybe through creating fake phishing websites?
If people want to get less spam, they have to be more careful by giving their email address to random websites. I think it would be best for everyone to create and use secondary email addresses for less important registrations.

Since I got in touch with the whole crypto world, I get more and more spam/scam/phishing mails.

Where do these guys get my address? Do exchanges sell the signup mails? Do ICOs sell it?

Any ideas?
There are hackers that dedicate themselves to steal databases, or to collect mails through other means, then they sell those list of emails, so if you are receiving a bunch of junk email then that means hackers got your emails somehow, the best recommendation is that you use a throwaway email when you are registering for an ico or other websites that way you do not have to deal with spam in your main account.

Really depends on where you sign up. If you participate in a ICO you will likely get spam emails. I personally use junk emails rather than personal ones when I sign up for something crypto related.
