Ideally you should read and follow all the best persons in the industries and the do your own reteach about the altcoins that you would be wanting to invest in. Always do not follow the crowd on their say, be self reliant to understand the benefits and future of any altcoin which can help you to invest in the right coin. You can follow some of them on twitter which keeps on updating the news related to cypto currency. Also do read the whitepaper of any altcoin to get more insightful understanding.

Usually I get news about new coin via [ANN] section. But its hard to find the best of the best ICO or coin for you to get invested.
Because there are tons / thousand and XX new coin every week.

So most of the time, I will just lurking in speculation section,  reading the thread. Mostly I will just ignore any coin that people suggested with "buy my XXX coin".

Instead of "buy my xxx coin because it have XXX supply, not ERC20, good team, new technology, powerful road-map".

And this is how I'm invested.

You can also use reddit or by joining facebook group to get new idea and news regarding upcoming coin.

But still, most of the coin that exits, are born through bitcointalk [ANN] section. Cheesy

Hey all.  So i notice many posters would make a thread such as buy so and so coin now and then when you read the thread, they would mention some upcoming news or news about the coin.  Like how someone mentions iota is partnering with so and so and how other coins are doing so and so etc.  What i noticed was when many posters post something like this, that coin does go up a lot.  In a way, i felt like this like inside information that is given here but i know it isn't... its just news.

Now how do you guys get news about coins like this?  For example, iota has been out for a while already.  But then people get news about so and so and then once words get out, the coin goes up etc.

As you say, the important point is not just hearing the news, but hearing it before everyone else does so that you can get in early. This is difficult because you really have to be following that specific coin.
But sometimes if you see a coin has started to rise, you can quickly search for latest news on the coin and then if there is a reason that suggests a huge rise, there is still time to buy in. For example the news yesterday with NEM and WeChat - if you saw the price start to rise, there was still time to find the news and buy in before the price plateaued. The answer really I think is a combination of timing and having a good estimate of just how good the news is and how much the coin is likely to rise. IOTA as you mentioned is another recent example - the rise was big but went on for a long time (and it is still rising!).

No source is reliable really. Looking at development updates and upcoming features is a useful eaybto see how alive an altvoin's team is but the public's perception also does matter. So subscribing to altcoins communities to see how people react to updates.

i find a lot of these posts like that are often someone that has bought a whole lot of the coin and are just trying to pump up it's image so that the price will rise and they will profit. For the posts that are actually genuine most of the news comes from crypto news sites like https://cointelegraph.com and https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com plus the numerous news sites that have popped up on social medias. Also i get some new information from the actual coins websites, i always check updates about the coins i have invested in on there official pages.

Those posts seems to be promotional news. And I guess it is needed to get enough attention and a marketplace in today's market.
