Twitter and forums (this one and a couple of others).

There are a few chat rooms here and there too but a lot of the news comes here first.

I go on the relevant slack for the coin I'm following and I also read general news from places like coindesk and blockfolio. I avoid the hype and FUD on this forum though and prefer to do my own research and ask the devs about any doubts I have directly on their slack.

Usually, I prefer cointelegraph, coindesk and twitter. It is better to use twitter though, you will receive any updates first hand. Follow the developers itself for better monitoring of your investments.

Another good place is at Poloniex trollbox. There will be people talking about the news of a certain coin if there is any.
I don't really care about news when buying any altcoin as they will dumped on the release of any news. I prefer buying a coin and sell its on any " good " news.
