you can have ETH at crypto exchanges by trading BTC to ETH or other supported currencies that can be traded on the specific platform. I use hitbtc and I am satisfied with its interface.

There are so many exchanges wherein you can buy Ethereum. I use shapeshift.io for my bitcoins to be converted in ethereum and vice versa, but I always take a look at the prices in Etherdelta and HitBTC.

There are many exchanges to buy ETH, you can buy it on Bittrx, Poloniex, Binance, Biffinex. You can buy it by BTC or USDT. Especially, you can buy ETH by USD on Bitstamp without BTC or USDT

I have been researching and feel I still need to post the question.  What are best resources to buy ETH these days?  It seems there really isn't any localbitcoin equivalent, which probably means an exchange. Any specific exchange recommendations. I was thinking Gemini but I see mixed reviews.  Thought I'd ask to see if there are any current reviews.
Binance as the recomended site. but why don't you just try to visit the coinmarketcap and you will be see a lot of the exchange site list that already accepted ethereum. Just like bitfinex and bittrex. Or you can try another such as kraken exchange site. Hitbtc and binance was better choice.

I am using hitbtc as my trading site and it has also a feature for exchange and withdrawals. It is not decentralized but this is one of gbe reasons why it is good to use. Advantages arise from this matter which is very useful for traders.

I also use hitbtc, it is fast and it has nice features. You can also start trading on big alts on this exchange. It also does not require Identity Verification so you can withdraw and deposit by just making an account with your e-mail. I have a nice experience with using hitbtc and never encountered a problem so far.

Here's a list of all Ethereum exchanges. If you want to exchange USD/EUR I'd suggest you Bitstamp.

Are you talking about buying Ethereum with fiat?  If that's the case, you should use coinbase.com or gemini.com to purchase directly with credit cards or your bank account.  Depending on the amount you purchase, you should receive them instantly and not have to wait days for payment to be cleared first.

you can buy ETH on websites or markets that provide ETH like, Hitbtc, Etherdelta if there you seem to have token you can sell first or you can exchange it to ETH, or you can enter VIP Bitcoin for transactions or for trading ETH provides a market for buying and selling ETH that you want to have and want to sell. But if you want to transact quickly you may also get ETH by looking at the balance of ETH that your friend have, so if your friend already want to sell it you can replace it with nominal according to currency in your country and according to current ETH price.

Take a look at Binance exchange. There is no need to get through the verification process to make any operations. Beware ETH network is stuck now so just every exchange do not work with ETH and ERC20 tokens as of now.
