I am not sure that is appropriate. Going by the sticky thread started by Mitchell, it clearly states that Project Development is for Bitcoin-related projects and services. Anything related to altcoins or ICOs should be posted in Alternate cryptocurrencies. I am not sure how the rule is implemented in practice and if the admins turn a blind eye, but that's what it says.

Actually not sure yet what is the idea of OP since he never leave any clue or hint. But since vod offered to give some feedback on OP maybe its better if OP will contact some expert first via pm rather than creating any topic to any section deemed appropriate. But you are right, that section is purely for bitcoin development. Just happened to see a lot of new ideas thread discuss with mixed of bitcoin and other altcoins. Like for example an exchange or trading services package that still exist there. (Or maybe mods not yet seeing those thread to take action, not sure.)

To Op, since the Project Development section is for new ideas, you can simply post there the topic. Even its related to altcoin, I think what you will post I assume probably is the drawbacks and possible unique integration right?

I think the project development section is wrongly used. Most wrong topics I see are people looking for partners, investors, developers, and marketers which in my point of view is more suitable in either the marketplace section or the service section of the forum since you are mainly looking for manpower in your project and you arem't discussing anything about the project itself. Aside from that these topics are also mostly spammed by newbies trying to pm and send you their telegram accounts which I personally consider sketchy.

but I want to toss around a few ideas and get some feedback, maybe form a "exploratory" team (If that can be done).

I've been in crypto for a decade, and I've run a website with 80,000 active members.

If you want to PM your ideas, I'll give you my opinion on if they will work or not and why.

I'm not looking to steal ideas - I have more than enough to work on now.

I noticed that there is a thread about projects started by legendary members?

How would you feel about that; if 1 or more legendary members were behind a project; would that get your attention ?

I think if you worry too much about rules and such, step on someone's toe then just discuss your idea in here.
Not a bad attitude to worry about being in wrong section at least he is concern and pay attention to the forum rule to post on the right section which is good characteristic of poster with sense of responsibility.
Yup! That's the right ethics. Why step on someone's toes if you can get the attention of others the right way in the the first place? By doing so, you can avoid troubles or complaints from the meticulous members here Cheesy.
then I think posting a thread on either Project Development or Altcoin Discussion is enough depending on what you really are up to.
Im not recommending to altcoin discussion, that section is highly spammed thread. If the idea is serious, he can post there but make sure to activate Self-moderated thread so he can delete spammer's post.
You had a good point but I don't see anything wrong on posting there either. I presume his idea is not yet mature so no need to a more technical board. If he feels agitated with the spammers then he can self moderate his own topic.

I know that alt discussion got a bad impression for most of us but it is not as bad as you think. There are still good topics and members existing there Smiley.

At some point when the discussion goes to altcoin topic majority then locked it. Then start a new topic in Altcoin service discussion, to explain and detailed it. Just my opinion.

I don't want to get into trouble, but I've search and search and I am not exactly sure where to post a few questions (and ideas) about a project I've been thinking about starting. I'm not really recruiting anyone, but I want to toss around a few ideas and get some feedback, maybe form a "exploratory" team (If that can be done).

Of course the board rules come first.

There are several places where you can post the project details. It can be in Project development, altcoin discussion (if it is related to altcoins) and also it can be in gambling discussion section if the project is related to gambling.  You won't get into trouble and can always move your post to the right thread.

If you're not recruiting anyone at all, then I think posting a thread on either Project Development or Altcoin Discussion is enough depending on what you really are up to. And I think it would be hard for you to gain an "exploratory" team as many here aren't not that fond of making their own altcoin but then trying to post your plans can also be a risk as others can imitate those ideas and can be used by them to scam people (if it was a good system and a promising one). Remember that saying your plans here and your ideas could be easily stolen by the others as you haven't patent such project and idea.

I think if you worry too much about rules and such, step on someone's toe then just discuss your idea in here. Plenty of users that involve in crypto in here could give you some pointers to improve your project.
the existence of these rules can make this forum cleaner and neat because if many threads with the same title will make the system in this forum weak again, the rules applied in this forum are good and should be able to be embedded in the members in this forum.

Project development section or Service announcement section is the place you seek but it depends on what your qualifications are, I hope you are talented in blockchain fields that requires your skills, anyways good luck

If it's not appropriate to this section, a moderator will transfer it to a section where he thinks it should be.
IMO, Service Announcements (Altcoins) can also be that place. Btw, no need to create a new thread or if you will then at least lock this thread.

Would be considered altcoin related, there is no altcoin/project development group.

Is "altcoin discussion" considered the equivalent ?
Yeah, it's equivalent. I know your worries if your topic probably will get a lack of responses from others because this rarely happens people starting/talking to build their own project here and most of them only talking about the project which already exists.

I do not suggest you to do it, you can try posting your project on project development board though it will end up moved here as mentioned above, at least you had done your best to share your thought with others.

this is the right section if you want to talk about your ideas since this section can talk all about related to altcoins and you want to ask something related to it , and you are planning to make your own Altcoin.

You can also share idea and other members opinion about your project idea in this section so you  can start it right away now if that's you are planning, or just change the title and edit the discussion  you want to discuss so you don't need to create a new thread.

If your "project" still related to bitcoin or on bitcoin blockchain itself I think Project Development is the correct board. Definitely, you should introduce the main idea of your "project" first then trying to recruit some people to build the project together. I am not sure if the "project" is mainly on altcoin allowed there maybe here is the best place, but if you explore that board there are some altcoin projects also posted there.

This post https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/new-project-with-new-mining-system-5261158 was originally posted in Project Development board but it was later transferred because it is about Altcoins.

If you are not yet satisfied with the answers, you can move your topic to Meta. It's where topics related to the forum are being discussed.
