This is the first merit anniversary I celebrate, as back one year ago I wasn't really involved into this.
As I said many times on other threads, I like looking the steps I took to see how far I have goone , and how much road still to walk.

Thank you for your reminder Ddmr! Similar to Filippone, I was not involved in 2019. Even worst, nor in 2018 although I registered in 2017.

Even worst, I look like a party crasher Smiley

However, happy anniversary to one of the most important update of the forum!

I wasn't around when the merit system was introduced, so I may not be able to understand what the feeling was like for users when it was set in motion, but if it was something close to the "trauma" it caused for so many newbies during the Enhancement of newbie restrictions and requirements, then it must have been some tumult, but just as the restrictions promoted quality posts, that was the same effect the merit system had from its first day till today.

Long live the merit system!

I remember Meta blowing up like a thousand sticks of dynamite in the days following its introduction and I remember how many members thought it was an unfair system and railed against it--those were mostly lower-ranked members who now saw their chances at earning big money via a high-ranked bitcointalk account scuttled by the new system.  I laughed with much glee.
Grin they must have all been account farmers or something just after their next account to rank up... It couldn't that hard to just earn one merit but most of them didn't stick it out long enough to find enough... It's difficult for some members to rank up now though but it's also meaning people are putting more effort into what they do so I can't see it as a bad thing.

I also remember having the flu at the time and waking up in what felt like a fever dream, and I saw this weird merit system that was the focus of discussion all over the forum, and I thought I was hallucinating for a while.  But it was not, and it turned out to be excellent for bitcointalk IMO.

Do we all remember the game of life on 1st April? That was a great little thing.

Still not entirely sure how he derived those scores but I think someone mentioned it and I'd forgotten.

But I realize that the quality of the messages in the forum is improving and it is nice to be able to reward the good behavior of the forum members.

Yeah I'm not exactly sure if I like the idea of a more intimate community now but I think most of us are real and a load of the alt accounts and merit farmers are gone... A few may remain but for the most part it'sldefinitely looking brighter and cleaner.

It's as if theymos painted over the graffiti!

Hell yeah, happy 2nd anniversary to the merit system!

And boy am I glad that Meta isn't still filled with tons of "how I earn meritz?" threads.  That was another phenomenon that went on for quite a long time.

Same here, it's the first time I celebrate this day since I haven't paid attention to the merit system either.
But I realize that the quality of the messages in the forum is improving and it is nice to be able to reward the good behavior of the forum members.

Merits an old thing now. Not sure if many of us have noticed a difference yet directly...

It got added just a year after bitcoin had the spike so to me it's too soon to notice if its had much of a difference. Since then the market just seems to be falling or stagnating and the technology has been without much innovation.

And we had tenth anniversary celebrations instead!

No God or Kings, only BITCOIN.
Happy Birthday, Merit System!

By the first anniversary of the merit system, I am already a member and got 12 merits and I'm thankful I already achieved a new rank during that time. I know that by my activity right now I will be a Hero member if the merit system hasn't been implemented but I am also thankful that shitposting has been reduced almost totally through this.

And if the Enhanced newbie restrictions & requirements hasn't been implemented too I think I will not be persistent up to today to earn them. I'm glad to be part of that 66 Sr. Members that ranked-up. The merit system is not a failure and I'm proudly saying that it's a success.

Second year in, and no early bird thread yet congratulating the Merit System’s second year of existence. Until now (albeit a light thread on the topic)…

Not to re-enter the debate as to whether the date should be the 24th or the 25th (it depends on your time zone really), I consider it to be on the 24th, in accordance to this TX:
Code:
time amount msg user_from user_to converted_date
1516831941 1 2818066.msg28853325 35 877396 2018-01-24 22:12:21.000
For this post:
I've noticed that i now all of a sudden have a "Merit" score of 500. What is this going to be for?

Does this have anything to do with the new proposals to combat spam?

EDIT: SEE https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/merit-new-rank-requirements-2818350

Edit: I also discovered that there is now a "Patrol" link which you can choose to enable under Forum Profile Information.

I would like to simply show these two images, that, by contrast, display the amount of people ranked-up over the past year:

a)   Snapshot as of 24/01/2019 (data as of 18/01/2019):

b)   Snapshot as of 24/01/2020 (data as of 17/01/2020 *):

(*) I could update the second Snapshot after today’s data readings later on, but the above is close enough, and maintains a 1 year gap.

The difference is therefore a gain in a year of:
+ 35 Legendries
+ 84 Heroes
+ 66 Sr. Members
+ 92 Full Members
+ 620 Members
+ 2.096 Jr. Members
-----------------------
+ 2.993 profiles ranked-up at least once

I cannot be certain if those figures are reasonable or not, but I am pretty certain that most of those who put in a fair share of effort and time are there.

Note: some of last year's threads on the matter:

Happy birthday, the merit system!
